Yeah, yeah, I know, a strange question to be asking on the BB, but here's the scoop...

Right now it's 3:13am Chicago time, and I've been awake since 12:05am. I have to be "up" in less than four hours to make a 4 1/2 hour drive for my son's b-day party and if I don't get some sleep I'll literally be dead at the wheel. So, what have I been doing?? Well, let's see, I listened to my wife snore for about 30 minutes (thank goodness she finally rolled over :D ). Listened to overnight sports talk radio (nothing but college football talk); silently prayed for a while (asking that God would knock me out :D ). Finally got up and read from His Word for a bit, and just a little while ago finished watching the silliest gameshow on tv, 'Whammy' on the game show network. Now I'm here.

So, what do you all do when the sleeplessness bug hits you? (Speaking of bugs, there's a fly in this room that's just about to drive me nuts!!)

Well, I'm off to bed to try it again. Good night y'all, and may your dreams be pleasant [IMG] [IMG]

    God Bless!!!

Adam [IMG] [IMG] (soon I hope hehehe)

Hi Adam: It sounds like you had the same kind of night I did. I had illness to blame, but it is still hard when you can't sleep.

The first thing I do is GET UP! Lying there tossing and turning makes it worse.

Secondly, I stop 'trying' to go to sleep. If I think about all the reasons why I HAVE to go to sleep, I am wider awake than ever. I just tell myself I will get to sleep 'whenever' and it really doesn't matter. Usually, once I remove the stress of 'having' to get to sleep, I go to sleep.

I don't count sheep, I talk to the Shepherd.

Take Sominex tonight and sleeeeep. [IMG]
Seriously, I take Melatonin (3mg) about an hour before I want to go to sleep. It is OTC and non habit forming because it is the same stuff that your body makes to make you sleepy. It is great for people who change shifts for work or jet lag. As always, consult you healthcare professional to see if Melatonin is right for you. [IMG]

When I'm worried and I can't sleep, I count my blessings instead of sheep. And I fall asleep counting my blessings. When my bankroll is getting small, I think of when I had none at all... and I fall asleep counting my blessings.

Any "White Christmas" fans in here? If I could sing like Bing Crosby, I wouldn't have any trouble finding a wife! LOL [IMG]

Joshua, that was Perry Como's theme song and how he ended every show... I always wanted Perry Como to be my Daddy. We'd watch his show and mother would say I had to go to bed. BUT after the commercial, he'd come back, sing a part of that song and say... 'Good Night America! I love you' and I'd get spanked before I'd go to bed without hearing Perry Como tell me he loved me. [IMG]

It was made famous in 'White Christmas' with Eddie Fisher, Bing Crosby and some others...

    When I'm worried and I can't sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep counting my blessings
When my bankroll is getting small
I think of when I had none at all
And I fall asleep counting my blessings

I think about a nursery and I picture curly heads
And one by one I count them as they slumber in their beds
If you're worried and you can't sleep
Just count your blessings instead of sheep
And you'll fall asleep counting your blessings

Perry Como recorded it as a single. It was a wonderful song and it made the Top Ten for a few weeks back in the late 50's when music - and America - was more civilized.

Another of my favorites is Perry Como's:
    Catch A Falling Star

Artist: Perry Como (peak Billboard position # 1 in 1958)
Words and Music by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss

    CHORUS
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
    Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day

For love may come and tap you on the shoulder some starless night
Just in case you feel you want to hold her
You'll have a pocketful of starlight

I usually think about everything that could possibly be thought about, then I pray myself to sleep. [IMG]

I don't watch tv or get on the internet because that would only arouse my senses.

One thing that seems to work well is to stand in front of the fan until I get the shivers. Then I climb into the kivers and usually fall fast to sleep.

I toss and turn, and get up and get a drink of water, take an alkaseltzer, and check on my children, and look out the window, and check to make sure the locks are locked, and go back to bed to toss and turn and think about my life, fall asleep to have nightmares about...well, you don't want to know...wake up with a gasp, take a sleeping pill, get another glass of water, go to the bathroom, go to bed, toss and turn and toss and turn, try to adjust my pillow under my head and toss and turn and toss and turn, and usually fall asleep just before my alarm goes off.

    That's what I usually do. I don't watch T.V. and I don't read...that would just make me more awake. I haven't gotten a good nights sleep since I was 28. [IMG]

Well, I can see we all deal with sleeplessness differently, but as for picking up a 'Left Behind' book to help me fall asleep, been there, tried that, didn't work. Read 3/4 of 'The Mark' before getting tired enough to fall asleep. On the other hand, just about any book by Danielle Steel would have me asleep in about 3 seconds [IMG] [IMG] . Unfortunately, my wife isn't into her books (and neither am I :D ).

Anyway, I finally did fall asleep around 4:30am and was rudely awakened by my alarm at 6:30am. Made the drive, and you know what? It was worth every minute of the 4 1/2 hours to see his face light up when he saw me. I promised him that I'd be there, and that was a promise I couldn't break, no matter how tired I was.

Well, that's all for this one. I think it's about time to hit the hay [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

God Bless!!! (and good night [IMG] )

Now that brings back memories. No, it's not what you're thinking. I'm not THAT old...yet [IMG] [IMG] . No, that brings back memories from when I was a kid and mom and dad had the 45's (or even the 78's) out and they'd play them all saturday evening long.

Let's see, there was Dean Martin (man, could he sing!!, Glenn Miller and his band, Frank Sinatra, the Andrew Sisters, and many, many more.

To this day if I'm scanning thru the radio stations and here some big band era music, I'll stop and listen for a minute or two, and think of those long ago saturday nights.

    God Bless!!!

I get out Sunday's New York Times Crossword Puzzle and after a 5-6 minutes of intense scrutiny, my brain "checks out" and my eyes begin to close.

Put on my bombadier outfit (wear a CPAP mask like a WWII pilot), snuggle down in the pillow to stop any oxygen leaks, and I've got about 30 seconds into la-la-land.

Here is a 100% fool proof way to go to sleep when all else fails.

Crawl into bed, open your bible, start reading and very soon the devil will get scared and will cause you to get sleepy. SWEET DREAMS [IMG]

I can tell when I'm going to having trouble falling asleep -- taking one or two benadryls on those occasions works well for me.

Wife sells a lot of Melatonin in her clinic. Inexpensive. ($4.40 for 60 caps)

Also a blend called "Nighttime Herbs" which include Valerian Root, Passion Fower and Hops. ($7.95 for 100)

Interesting sidebar: Women with breast cancer who used Melatonin had a great reduction in recurrence and severity. Odd and unexpected effect of something to help you reset your body clock from jet lag and to sleep deeper.

Having a hard time falling asleep comes naturally to me. I fight sleep each and every night. The only way I get myself to sleep is if I lay down and just rock the bed or violently shake my legs and ware myself out.

Now what do I do when I get a touch of insomia?
I either clean or bake. Or I will play a computer game. Or, I like to read but it makes me tired. I am not an advid reader. So I will pick up a book or the bible and usually within a few pages I am snoring like a freight train. ;)
