I was just wondering I saw on a thread that someone said Adrian Rogers belived that God was not responsible for 100% of our salvation...

    Read the entire thread.

The problem is Rogers is not a 5-pointer (and has been vocal of his opposition to non-evangelistic Calvinism) so suddenly he is on the Calvinists hit list. Add Paige Patterson, Bailey Smith, Jerry Vines, and Charles Stanley to the list and you've got yourself a rather large group of the modern SBC's greatest shapers.

Can't we just all get along ???? :( [IMG] ;)

It sounds like Drs. Adrian Rogers, Stanley and the rest are not only 'shapers' but 'shakers' within the walls of the SBC. Convulsions will purify the denomination and will enliven the truth and will cause it to surface as Biblical theology. Believe me, God is sovereign; He can handle it.

And that is what is amazing, God in his sovereignty has chosen to use these non-Calvinists to make such an eternal impact.

Perhaps we put a little more emphasis on our man-created salvific philosophies than God intends  .

    SBCbygrace,

My wife loves to hear Dr. Stanley out of Atlanta Sunday evenings. Incidentally, he is her favorate T.V. preacher. She must be right. Am I wrong? At least he does not take any radical theological views as some believers do.

I think even if you belive in Calvinism, you should always be evangelistic.

    Proverbs 11:30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise

I am firmly convicted that if you're not evangelistc, you go against a biblical standard. You should always share Christ, and witness as often as you can...
I want you all to read this small article by John MacArthur...
What does the Bible teach about election?

I am Calvinistic, and also Evangelistic.

I misphrased my earlier post, I should have said:

Despite all the movers and shakers among men, yet God is and remains Sovereign.

The problem lies in the fact that men begin to think they must do whatever it takes to get people saved, forgetting it is God's intention to save, our task is but to preach the Gospel.

"A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies" Proverbs 14.25

We have but to preach; God will do the rest.

    God Bless.

Perhaps you misread the sarcastic nature of my original post. I respect deeply and admire the ministries of the men I mentioned earlier. My post was directed to those who criticize Rogers, Stanley and others who disagree with them on the Calvinism issue.

    We share. He saves.

Furthermore, God is able to save in spite of our inadequate methods or motives. As I have stated in other threads, I have simply found that the more the gospel is shared, the more people come to know Christ.

    SBCbyGrace,

I understood your post. Thanks. I was just trying to say that my wife enjoys Dr. Stanley's preaching.

I respect those men a lot for what they have done. Even if I do disagree witht them. [IMG]

That said: Stanley should have stepped down long ago. He has made a mockery of his position at FBCA, and has been disobedient to the Word of God.

(someone had to say it...it's true)

    J Grayhound,

Sincerely, what do you mean when you said, 'Dr. Stanley should have stepped down . . . . because he has made a mockery of his position at FBCA?' I am an outsider as perhaps several other people are also. Thanks.

    Ray,

Dr.Stanley and his wife seperated some time ago and then were divorced several years later after failed attempts to reconcile.

He is such a high profile person in the SBC that his actions reflect poorly on what we believe the Bible teaches about divorce and th relationship b/t divorce and the office of pastor.

I know there is debate over whether or not divorce disqualifies a man for the office. But, he at least is no longer 'above reproach'.

I don't know all of the details of his situation, but I feel he did a disservice to his flock by sending mixed messages, at best, or misleading them (at worst) on this topic. He has a wide audience with a TV ministry, so his issues reflect baptists and more importantly he represents Christ. This was a bad situation, but because of who he is, people let it slide. That is a horrible thing, IMO.

Hey, Ray, it looks like we can have a civil discussion away from direct discourse on soteriology. [IMG]

    Yeah,

I didn't know this. Without knowing the circumstances, I agree with your post concerning how he should have responded regarding his position.

I have heard Adrian Rogers say some good things. However, he made a comment one day on the radio that a child of God who has a conviction that has not reached his wallet is no coniction at all. He made such a comment based on the false premise that tithing is binding on the New Testament church.

Please study your church and Baptist histories before making such unfounded comments. In case you don't remember, such famous soul-winners and missionaries as

    John Bunyan
    Jonathan Edwards
    George Whitefield
    William Carey
    Adoniram Judson
    Luther Rice
    C. H. Spurgeon
    B. H. Carroll
    John Broadus
    J. B. Gambrell
    and
    John Gano

are just a few of the Calvinists known for their evangelism.
