Great letter, Mike! Good job! [IMG]

This little chicken has had life too easy.

Not fit to spit shine the boots of any of our brave young men & women serving in our military.

Yeh, you got it right. Have her drop & do a couple hundred, give her military issue, & ship her off to Afghanistan. She'd not only be kissing the American flag, she'd be kissing the ground when she got home. [IMG]

She is perfectly free to express her opinion, and has done so. Congrats to her for having the nerve to make such a bold statement.
I felt the same way at one point, but with different reasoning.
However, it's like fighting with your sister. :D You can pick on her all you want, but if someone else messes with her there's gonna be blood.
I respect my country, and the flag, but I did notice that when I got no attention whining about a certain matter and I then took the flag down and whined again, I got the government's attention and I got listened to.
I find it interesting that people are only critizing her for her actions instead of listening to why she did it. Does anyone have a clue why? Do you disagree with what she is saying or do you just disagree with her turning away from the flag?

Having the right to do something and being right in doing it are not the same thing.

Not all bold statements are good statements, Gina.

Either way, you're still a whiner. The only difference is that now, you're a disrespectful whiner.

Liberals notwithstanding, whining is not how adults make their concerns known.

It doesn't matter why she did it. She was wrong.

    Both.

She's perfectly free to do what she wants. And I'm perfectly free to disagree with her.

(BTW, having been a young person, I realize the propensity toward stupidity.)

Silliness is part of being young. That's why I won't make too much of this.

Mike; Great letter. This liberal thing has gone to far. As stated before, many people died so she could state her feelings, however wrongly, the way she has. In earlier generations she would have been branded a communist for turning her back on the flag. Has she no respect for her country at all? There are ways to change things, this is not it. Next she be burning a flag, or worse. My letter is on the way to the college. [IMG]

You know that is the exact sort of answer I would expect, stubborn Kelly……

1rst Sam. 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

ESPN (not a solid Baptist group) did a poll today on the matter. Dan Patrick stated the obvious - protest, hold your own views, make it public - but the limit is on the flag, tangible representation of America.

Black power salutes from the Mexico Olympics drew the same reaction from normal Americans. Sorrow, shame and disdain - NOT for country or flag, but for the FOOL who cannot express his/her view without foolishly attacking the nation that gives her the right of dissent.

Try being an Iraqi and turn your back on the flag and see the reaction. I'll say a prayer over your grave.

How would you know? This is a great way for a Christian to respond to someone who might not be a believer, call them names, way to build a positive realtionship.

I should have called her spoiled, a brat, a prima donna, a goof ball, an attention seeker, un-Patriotic, a disgrace to her country, a liberal crybaby.....So let us know how your "relationship building" with her goes.

It strikes me as strange a topic like this appears under the heading "News Affecting Baptists Worldwide." This event only affects Baptists in the U.S. Actually, it doesn't really affect Baptists at all. How does someone turning their back upon a flag in political protest make an impact upon what Baptists believe or practice? BTW, I am glad the U.S allows the freedom for someone to make such a protest.

    Thanks, Rick.

I agree. That's one of the great ironies of liberty.

I don't know if she's a communist or not, but there's been plenty of condemnation over this.

It's not about changing things. If she wanted o change things, she would have made some sort of statement or made some attemt to articulate her problems.

This was no more than a child's temper tantrum.

I like what Lee Ermey says about flag burners. Unfortunately, I can't repeat it here.

    Good man.

The email for anyone who's interested is president@mville.edu

David Moore, if people would have went with it, it DOES bring up a valid point about what our role is as Christians, as far as how we relate to our government and how far we take allegiance and obedience when it's not to God but to others, or country, or systems of authority, blah blah blah.

Just pointing out there are thousands of Baptists from the U.S. scattered all over the globe. They might be missionaries, working with NGO agencies, government, military, business - Baptists from America are everywhere & possibly could be interested in things happening back home. And some of them even vote absentee ballots. [IMG]

Fair enough. I don't have a problem with American brethren discussing the issue, but this topic, and quite a few others like it are posted on this forum, which are really only relevant to American Baptists. Since the BB is dominated by American folks, with issues peculiar to themselves, maybe there should be a section just for that!

David, feel free to post items you feel are important in your country, such as what the your government is doing, etc., if you feel it has some relevance to patriotism or Judeo-Christian values or terrorism or laws or whatever.

By & large, most of the members on here do seem to be American and the board itself originates from America but I don't think we want Baptists from other countries to feel slighted in the least. And it is free. If the mods or webmaster feel a thread is inappropriate, we can always delete the thread. [IMG]

This is only my opinion, though. I'm not speaking for our webmaster or other moderators of this forum. This is just my 2 cents. Have a nice day! [IMG]

Brother Moore, I for one would be more than happy to hear of news from Northern Ireland from a Baptist perspective. Over here, if the information is from the mainstream news organizations, it tilts towards Dublin/IRA. By and large the non-mainstream news has a Presbyterian slant. So feel free to post any news you may have from your part of the world. [IMG]

    Huh?

My family and friends have supported Republican and Nationalist causes for years and that's news to us.
