Did a zealous scribe add the longer ending on Mark 16:9-20 in some manuscripts? What is your opinion?

No. The authenticity of the longer ending have been proven beyond any doubt. Read Burgon's "The Last Twelve Verses of Mark." Even Hort admitted he "Could not answer the good Dean" on that issue.

Doc Cass is certainly no myth buster just because some here accept whatever the 'good' Doctor says. I do feel it was added later. S,B,304,2386, most Lectionaries, Syriac, 1 Coptic (south). But I will say this Mark 16:9-20 was added very early. You would have to be stupid to not copy 12 verses. And those verses contain a good deal of alternate readings even within the text. Always a sign that the text was probably added.

You know why I like the "good" doctor. Because he supplies manuscript numbers to support his assertions.

Yes but many times these numbers and figures he quotes are misleading see your other thread 'Differences between the TR and the Alexandrian' for a good example of his misrepresenting the facts.

Or not copy them for a reason while leaving a blank space exactly the size those 12 verses would take up in the column.

I would advise you not to try to give a book report on a book you have not yet read.

</font>[/QUOTE]Why would the scribe delete thos 12 verses? Do you have a guess or a reason? It just doesn't make sense. They left the other 3 accounts of the Resurrection of Christ in why would they choose to delete that one? Maybe you know something I don't. But it just doesn't make sense to me.

Only 3 Greek NT MSS in the world don't contain the last 12 verses of Mark, and the mother of those MSS could just as easily have omitted it because the ending, as was so frequently the case, was the last page in the exemplar, and was destroyed. If the integrity of our New Testament depends on just 3 Greek MSS, one of which was copied some 1400 years after the birth of Christ, then we're in big trouble!

One of the reasons people do not believe the longer version is they think it is relevant to them. They are obviously taking scripture that wasn't meant for them when it was originally written...so, therefore, I have no problem with the longer version. Unlike some pastors I know who will not read it from the pulpit. Sad......

My understanding was that there are 620 MSS for Mark, and among them 617 has the longer ending, 1 doesn't have the entire chapter of 16, only 2 (B, and Aleph) have shorter ending.

Even A and C have the longer ending.

    Can anyone verify this point?

I missed the part where DeclareHim attempted to give a book report.

May I be advised of that passage?

Ok I'll read the book. It's not in print anymore but it seems to be readily available.
