Are the women in your church allowed to attend business meetings? Are they allowed to participate if they do attend? Why or why not? What, if anything, does the bible say about this?

Are the women in your church allowed to attend business meetings?

    Yes.

Are they allowed to participate if they do attend? Why or why not?

Yes, if they are members in good standing.

What, if anything, does the bible say about this?

I don't know of any prohibation and the "usurp authority" passages don't apply because it's not an issue of authority. It's simple participation. Many times women have insights into issues than men do not. IMO, the "keep silent" passages refer to judging special revealation and, hence, do not apply.

We don't have business meetings because we are not a 501C3 church.

Of course they are allowed to speak/vote/voice concerns. They are church members. We don't keep them bound and gagged in the nursery. [IMG]

We do not have business meeting, because we have a plurality of elders(leaders and teachers) and deaconsin charge of serving ministries). The elders make all decisions for our church...they are the spiritually mature who meet the scriptural qualifications to be an elder...the deacons are in charge of the ministry of widows, finances, etc and everything goes under the elders leadership! It is wonderful!

No where in the bible does it speak of business meetings or congregational rule. But,it does speak a lot of leadership~

Also,I think it is fine for women to express things or have ideas for things, but being very careful how and when that is expressed, maybe to their husband is best. If you'd like to serve, then serve, but I don't think women or just anybody should have a say in how the church manages things,though...it would get way too confusing, esp when you've got 100 very vocal people...whoever speaks the loudest can get their way, which may not be the right way! We've been there and done that. It is not fun!

Women are humans, too. They can vote, talk, attend, serve. What a concept!

Interesting sidebar: The local Missouri Synod Lutheran church does NOT allow women to say a word or vote at a business meeting, or hold any office. They contend that if WOMEN are allowed to do this then the MEN will not participate (let the ladies do it) or even show up for meetings.

I like their thinking, but think they've become a little extreme. Can you imagine a BAPTIST saying that about a LUTHERAN???

The women put on their veils and hide in the back of the church not daring to look up or smile...

Of COURSE I vote and can give an opinion if I'd like! We have 2 women on our pulpit search committee and the nominating committee head is a woman.

Many years ago in Zweibruecken I attended Bible Baptist Church (Landmark). Women were not allowed to attend business meetings, (let alone vote). In fact, (male) vistors were not even allowed to attend business meetings! Everything was so hush-hush. That was one of the reasons I did not join that church.

Women attend, vote, voice opinions, chair committees AND, since they are almost always in the majority, could take over at any time they so choose.

No, you don't have business meetings because you don't have a congregationally controlled church. Your church is controlled by the pastor and/or elders.
