    Hello fellow IFBs,

This has been a testy subject in many IFB churches over the last 10 or 15 years.

A great majority, at least the ones I know of now allow women to wear pants(even on church activities) and do not preach against it anymore.

Someone asked me to review an article by an IFB that preaches against women wearing pants.

This is my review of that article.

    http://www.ifbreformation.org/Review_Women_wearing_pants.html

Take a look and I will be interested to hear your comments.

    Thanks

I approached my previous pastor about the "dress code" he had implemented and he said, "That's the way it's always been and that's the way it will be as long as I'm pastor here!"
He also stated, "I didn't need anybody to tell me how to dress, when I got saved!"

They have this notion that men can wear bluejeans into the platform area (including where the musical instruments are), but women must wear dresses. So, if a woman is wearing slacks and a blouse they cannot step onto the platform to sing or give any announcements. The pastor told me that I was to always wear a suit and tie and that my wife was to wear a dress at every service. I'm sure it's no surprise that we left that church.

I believe that we isolate ourselves and exclude many people by accepting "tradition" as doctrine.

The scriptures referring to men and women wearing different clothing was speaking against men dressing up AS women and women dressing up AS men, I believe.

Well personally for me I do beleive that it is wrong for women to wear pants. I will say however that my eyes were opened to this fact because I heard preaching and then I let God work in my heart through hearing his word.
My Pastor has rules at our church for people that hold offices and also when we have church functions. What I have to say about that is I love my Pastor and I respect him wanting our church to be different. Also if you had a job that required certain dress codes or actions you would do it or not have a job.

At our church all the ladies wear dresses to church. If we are having a BBQ on saturdays or something, colotts are ok. We've had some ladies who came regularly, and got saved, and after awhile if they still aren't dressing modestly, one of the older ladies speak with them privatly and gently...let me stress GENTLY! Cause when you have new converts they aren't natural theologens.
Now we beleive it's clear in the Bible to dress modestly, and from the Bible we get institutanal standards. wearing dresses in a church service is one of the institutional standards we have. Why do we? Cause our pastor is accountable for his flock, he beleives the Bible, and God put him in charge. He has the authority to do so.
Yeah we still preach it. I don't know about other churches. My pastor dosn't stand and give a list of what a lady can or can't wear but stress the fact that we as Christians ought to be diffrent and seperated...not for diffrent's sake, but for testimony's sake. And yeah, half the ladies in our church wear their dresses to church, and when they get home change into pants. I hardly think putting on a dress three times a week is gonna kill somebody.
I beleive a woman ought to be modest. Now she's gonna have to decide if what she's wearing is gonna uphold the command of modesty.
And people are diffrent. In my own personal convictions I wear dresses only...but my grandma wears baggy pants and colotts...and thats within the same family in the same house!
Ladies...AND MEN! need to look at what they put on everyday and say: "Now is this modest? Can I bring glory to God by dressing this way?" and if not, TRASH IT!

Nope. As long as you dress decently a dress or pants is fine. All of our pastor's wives wear pants. (We have 5 pastor's total [IMG] )

Outside of Scots, is it OK for a man to wear a dress?

I agree...it has been beaten to death...God could care less about what people wear to church, long as they are wearing something!

I see no problem with it. It is much better than those short short skirts. We at our church dress casually, no ties , no over dressing. That is the life style in Texas.

The first time I married, I received an orange-and-white flowered sulu as part of my wife's dowry. I may even still have someplace. But then I'm Scottish, extractively, so it wasn't that much of a leap.

Question is, is it wrong for a woman to wear a kilt? I think the answer, strictly from Scripture, is it's wrong for her to wear a man's kilt, but okay if it's her own kilt.

But my fiancée and I trade clothes almost all the time; we wear the same size of just about everything, which I view as a blessing rather than a condemnation.

Psa 42:1 As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So my soul pants for You, O God.

That's the only pair of pants I could find in the Bible. How can women "wear" them??? :D
