    Whatever, Enda.

I understood your comment the first time. I don't see a problem with utilizing pronouns, "sometimes" or at any time. Moreover, I would imagine that The Almighty doesn't either.

When did I ever say that it was too much to ask? Please show me my "specific" (to use your word) comment that even implied this.

I simply pointed out that I do not agree with the back-handed comment that there was no "specific" mention of Jesus; therefore there is something wrong with that. The last time I checked, there is no law which requires adherence to my opinion.

    Baptist in Richmond,

The point I made was a valid point, as has been acknowledged by others on the board. Rant as much as you like but I'm not going to be drawn into an argument about it. End of discussion.

Well Yod I suppose I'd agree with that although I'd say there are MANY things about CCM which seriously disturb me. [IMG]

As I see it, discussing the different aspects and problems with CCM would not achieve much. I look on the whole package and reject it as ungodly, thats where I am coming from, like Dr Bob, I may be throwing the baby out with the bathwater but I think that although there may well be some fairly good lyricists within the CCM industry, they should come out of that particular market.

I don't want to sidetrack this thread, that wouldn't be fair to Joshua so if you want to raise a particular point it might be better to start another thread. I'd be happy to share my views with you and to hear what you think.

    God Bless

    Enda

How did I know you would say that? [IMG]

It's a place to start a good conversation and see how far it goes. BTW...by your definition I am a CCM artist so please be gentle with me.

I'll start the thread under your quote...

    While I'm here....

2 from Rich Mullins....are we up to about a dozen songs now?

    ---------------------------

    The Color Green

    Rich Mullins
    Second Chronicles 13:18, Psalm 24:1-10

And the moon is a sliver of silver
Like a shaving that fell on the floor of a Carpenter's shop
And every house must have it's builder
And I awoke in the house of God
Where the windows are mornings and evenings
    Stretched from the sun
Across the sky north to south
And on my way to early meeting
I heard the rocks crying out
I heard the rocks crying out

Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands
Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land
Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made
Blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields with praise

And the wrens have returned and they're nesting
In the hollow of that oak where his heart once had been
And he lifts up his arms in a blessing for being born again
And the streams are all swollen with winter
Winter unfrozen and free to run away now
And I'm amazed when I remember
Who it was that built this house
And with the rocks I cry out

Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands
Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land
Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made
Blue for the sky and the color green

Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands
Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land
Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made
Blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields with praise

    =======================

    Hold Me Jesus

    Rich Mullins
    First Kings 19:3-13, Matthew 11:25-30

Well, sometimes my life just don't make sense at all
When the mountains look so big
And my faith just seems so small

So hold me Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

And I wake up in the night and feel the dark
It's so hot inside my soul
I swear there must be blisters on my heart

So hold me Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

Surrender don't come natural to me
I'd rather fight You for something I don't really want
Than to take what You give that I need
And I've beat my head against so many walls
Now I'm falling down, I'm falling on my knees

And this Salvation Army band is playing this hymn
And Your grace rings out so deep
It makes my resistance seem so thin

I'm singing hold me Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

Here's another from the same album:

    Peace

(A Communion Blessing From St. Joseph's Square)

    Rich Mullins and Beaker
    Matthew 26:26-30, John 6:32-58, Colossians 3:12-17

Though we're strangers, still I love you
I love you more than your mask
And you know you have to trust this to be true
And I know that's much to ask
But lay down your fears, come and join this feast
He has called us here, you and me

And may peace rain down from Heaven
Like little pieces of the sky
    Little keepers of the promise
    Falling on these souls
    This drought has dried
In His Blood and in His Body
In the Bread and in this Wine
    Peace to you
    Peace of Christ to you

And though I love you, still we're strangers
    Prisoners in these lonely hearts
And though our blindness separates us
Still His light shines in the dark

And His outstretched arms are still strong enough to reach
Behind these prison bars to set us free

    Another great RM song...

All the Way to Kingdom Come

We didn't know what love was 'til He came
And He gave love a face and He gave love a name
And He gave love away like the sky gives the rain and sun

We were looking for heroes, He came looking for the lost
We were searching for glory, and He showed us a cross
Now we know what love is 'cause He loves us
All the way to kingdom come (All the way)
All the way to kingdom come

    Love is a miracle
It's a miracle if you can find it
And miracles are hard to come by these days (these days)
But the sweet Lord Jesus, he's a miracle man
He's got holes in His feet, in His side, in His hands
And if you ask for love, love pours through them
Like a ray of light, like a raging blaze

We didn't know what love was 'til he came
And He gave love a face and He gave love a name
And He gave love away like the sky gives the rain and sun

We were looking for heroes, He came looking for the lost
We were searching for glory, and He showed us a cross
Now we know what love is 'cause He loves us
All the way to kingdom come (All the way)
All the way to kingdom come

    Life is a mystery
    It's a mystery we're all living
    This world is so fragile
And we're so frail, so frail

Yeah, with the sweet Lord Jesus, His mysterious heart
Keeps the life-blood pumping at the center of it all
If He let go of us, we'd all blow apart
But He holds on tight, His love don't fail

We didn't know what love was

We didn't know what love was 'til He came
And He gave love a face and He gave love a name
And He gave love away like the sky gives the rain and sun

We were looking for heroes, He came looking for the lost
We were searching for glory, and He showed us a cross
Now we know what love is 'cause He loves us
All the way to kingdom come (All the way)
All the way to kingdom come
All the way to kingdom come (All the way)
All the way to kingdom come (All the way)

God Who Saves - Caedmon's Call

There is life in the blood of the lamb who was slain
There is power, there is power in His name
There is love pouring out of the wounds that were made
Pouring out, pouring over our shame

So praise the God who saves
    Praise the God who bled
Praise the God who was nailed to a tree
And wore our sins upon His head

There is truth in His body, raised that third day
There is joy in a stone rolled away
There is hope pouring out of the tomb where He lay
Pouring out, pouring over the grave

For He lives that we too might live
And He loves that we might also love
And know the glory of God above

    --------
Aaron (who wrote the song) writes about this song:

"This was written in reaction to a destructive trend in some modern churches to remove the crucifixion and references to the blood of Christ from scripture and hymns on the grounds that a loving God would not rquire such a barbaric act to save His people. While it was indeed barbaric, it is the foundation of our faith and must never be forgotten. If Christ be not raised from the dead, what hope could we possibly have?"

Day Three - Again, in no particular order. This one has been used in worship, so 'twould be an example of a song that works on both sides. In His Grip, joshua

Knowing You (All I Once Held Dear)
Graham Kendrick © 1993 Make Way Music

All I once held dear, built my life upon
    All this world reveres and wars to own;
All I once thought gain I have counted loss,
Spent and worthless now compared to this.

Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You, there is no greater thing,
You’re my all, You’re the best, You’re my joy, my righteousness,
    And I love You, Lord.

Now my heart’s desire is to know You more,
To be found in You and know as Yours,
To possess by faith what I could not earn
    All surpassing gift of righteousness.

Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You, there is no greater thing,
You’re my all, You’re the best, You’re my joy, my righteousness,
    And I love You, Lord.

O, to know the power of Your risen life,
    And to know You in Your sufferings;
To become like You in Your death, my Lord,
So with You to live and never die.

Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You, there is no greater thing,
You’re my all, You’re the best, You’re my joy, my righteousness,
    And I love You, Lord.

Day Four - Posting this ahead of time, because I'm leaving town to lead worship at a church in Pampa, TX tomorrow. Our band will be leading for a youth event on Saturday, and would appreciate your prayers as we worship and share the gospel with these youth. Thanks so much! In His Grip, joshua

    Nothing Left of Me
Joel Engle and Jeffrey B. Scott (C) 2001 Spin Three-Sixty Music

Your sacrifice is brokenness, a heart that’s full of tenderness,
    Come and break me, Lord.
To seek You in Your righteousness to find You in holiness,
    Come and take me Lord.

That I could learn to trust You, in every way to love You.

Strip away all that remains for Your glory and Your name,
‘Til there’s nothing left of me.
Burn the kingdoms I have made that You would shine and I would fade,
‘Til there’s nothing left of me.
‘Til there’s nothing left of me.

Your Spirit is the only One that can conform me to Your Son,
    Let Him move in me.
Your grace is written deep in me, You’ve signed my heart to purity
    With Your holy blood.

Day Five - Another one that I've heard used in both CCM and Sunday worship circles. In His Grip, joshua

    Serve Hymn
Andrew Peterson (C) 2003 New Spring Publishing, Inc.

High this mountain, broad this sea
    Still, my sin ran deeper;
Grave offense my soul did wreak
    Against creation's Keeper.
But I see what power so fell and fair
    Has stayed His holy justice;
God Himself all Hell did bear,
How great His love for us is.

O serve Him, O serve Him,
    He who brings the morning.
O serve Him, only serve Him,
    He who brings the morning.

Every hour is a precious boon,
    Every breath is a mercy;
    Every glimpse of yonder moon,
    A balm upon this journey.
How vast the heavens above this place!
    So small beneath His glory;
Still He stooped and showed His face,
And poured His mercy o'er me.

    Jesus, our Messiah King,
For those who don't deserve Him,
Conquered death, all life to bring
So seek Hes face and serve Him...

O serve Him, O serve Him,
    He who brings the morning.
O serve Him, only serve Him,
    He who brings the morning.

    Sing, O sing,
    Praise His name forever!
O praise Him, O praise Him,
    Praise His name forever!

Day Six - And now, a song that is used often at Christmas, although it's connotations have bearing all year long. In His Grip, joshua

    Welcome to Our World
Chris Rice (C) 1995 Clumsy Fly Music

    Tears are falling, hearts are breaking;
How we need to hear from God.
You've been promised, we've been waiting,
Welcome, holy Child, welcome, holy Child.

Hope that you don't mind our manger,
How I wish we would have known.
    But long-awaited holy Stranger,
Make Yourself at home, please make Yourself at home.

Bring Your peace into our violence,
Bid our hungry souls be filled.
    Word now breaking heaven's silence,
Welcome to our world, welcome to our world.

Fragile finger sent to heal us,
    Tender brow prepared for thorn,
Tiny heart whose blood will save us,
Unto us is born, unto us is born.

So wrap our injured flesh You,
Breathe our air and walk our sod.
Rob our sin and make us holy,
Perfect Son of God, perfect Son of God.
    Welcome to our world.

    Day Seven

    Audience of One
Mike Weaver (C) 2001 Open Worship Music, Inc.

    I come on my knees, to lay down before You;
Bringing all that I am, longing only to know You.
Seeking Your face, and not only Your hand,
I find You embracing me, just as I am.

And I lift these songs to You and You alone
Lord, I sing to You, in my praises make Your home!

To my audience of One, You are Father and You are Son,
As Your Spirit flows free, let it find within me
A heart that beats to praise You!
And now just to know You more, has become my great reward,
To see Your kingdom come, and Your will be done,
I only desire to be Yours, Lord.

So what could I bring, to honor Your majesty? What song could I sing to impress the heart of royalty?
When all that I have, is the life that You've given me,
So Lord let me live for You, this song with humility.

And Lord as the love song of my life is played,
I have one desire to bring glory to Your name!

To my audience of One, You are Father and You are Son,
As Your Spirit flows free, let it find within me
A heart that beats to praise You!
And now just to know You more, has become my great reward,
To see Your kingdom come, and Your will be done,
I only desire to be Yours, Lord.

Day Eight - I love this song! The first time I heard it, I was caught up in the story... after that, it quickly became one of my favorites. In His Grip, joshua

    The End of the Beginning
David Phelps (C) 2001 Soulwriter Music

I was taking a trip on a plane the other day just wishin that I could get out,
When the man next to me saw the book in my hand and asked me what it was about.
So I settled back in my seat.
"A best-seller," I said, "a history and mystery in one."
Then I opened up the book and began to read from Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

He was born of a virgin one holy night in the little town of Bethlehem.
Angels gathered 'round Him underneath the stars singing "Praises to the great I AM!
He walked on the water, healed the lame, and made the blind to see again,
And for the first time here on earth, we learned that God could be a friend.
And though He never, ever did a single thing wrong, the angry crowd chose Him,
And then He walked down the road and died on the cross, and that was the end of the beginning.

"That's not a new book, that's a Bible," he said, "and I've heard it all before.
I've tried religion, it's shame and guilt, and I don't need it anymore.
It's superstition, made-up tales, just to help the weak to survive."
"Let me read it again," I said, "listen closely. This is gonna change your life!"

"The end of the beginning," he said with a smile, "what more could there be, He's dead.
You said they hung Him, put nails in His hands, and a crown of thorns on His head."
I said, "I'll read it again, but this time there's more, I believe that this is true.
His death wasn't the end, but the beginning of life that's completed in you.
Don't you see He did all this for you?"

And though He never, ever did a single thing wrong, He was the one the crowd chose,
And then He walked... and He died...
But three days later, three days later, three days later... He rose!
    Three days later, he arose!

You see, He came, He lived, and He died,
But that was the end of the beginning.

Day Nine - Ginny is one of my favorite artists. Most of her songs really move me. In His Grip, joshua

    I Am Nothing
Ginny Owens (C) 1998 BMG Songs, Inc.

I could travel over oceans, cross the deserts, climb the mountains
Just to share Your story, bring You glory, and win souls for You.
I could sing like an angel, songs so humble and so thankful
Full of drama and emotion, so the world would know Your truth.
I could give away my money and my clothes and my food
To restore those people who are poor, lost, and down-and-out.
Oh, I could succeed at all these things,
Find favor with peasants and kings,
But if I do not love, I am nothing.

I could live a flawless life, never cheat or steal or lie,
And always speak so kindly, smile so warmly, and go about doing good.
I could dedicate myself to do what everyone else wants me to-
Listen to them, compliment them, say the things I should.
I could show up every Sunday, lead the Choir and Bible Study
And they all might come to know me as a leader and a friend.
Oh, I could achieve success on Earth, but success cannot define my worth
And all these actions, all these words, will not matter in the end-

'Cause songs will fade to silence, stories, they will cease.
The dust will settle, covering all my selfless deeds.
So as I strive to serve You, won't You make it clear to me,
If I do not love, I am nothing.

If I cannot live my life loving my brother,
Then how can I love the One who lived His life for me?

Sent to Earth from Heaven, humble Servant, holy King,
Come to share a story, get no glory, and save my searching soul.
You knew that I'd deny You, crucify You, but nothing could stop You from
Living for me, dying for me, so that I would know-

That songs will fade to silence, stories they will cease,
The dust will settle covering all these selfless deeds.
But Your life here has made it clear enough for me to see
That if I do not love, I am nothing.
If I do not love, I am nothing.

You're very welcome, Dale. Between this and the "Origins" thread, I didn't know anyone was still reading! Blessings!

    Live By Faith
Chris Rice and Scott MacLeod (C) 1994 BMG Songs, Inc.

I can’t feel You movin’ inside, I don’t hear Your voice whisperin’ in the night,
And I’ve never seen You with these eyes.
    Am I a fool, am I just a fool?
    They ask how I follow what I can’t see;
Why I trust in a love that my arms won’t reach.
I don’t need You, don’t need You, to prove it to me.
    I’ll be a fool, yes, I’ll be a fool.

‘Cause blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.
And blest are the hands that keep givin’ but never receive.
Blest is the heart that gets broken but keeps holdin’ on, holdin’ on for another day.
‘Cause that’s what it means to live by faith.

So I cry for Your help while the world looks on.
And they laugh at my hope when all hope is gone.
But I’ll just keep prayin’ when answers won’t come.
Am I the fool, am I just a fool for standing alone while they mock Your name?
“Well, if your God is so good, tell us why all the pain?”
I’m not sure, not so sure that God is to blame, so don’t be a fool,
    Please don’t be a fool.

‘Cause blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.
And blest are the hands that keep givin’ but never receive.
Blest is the heart that gets broken but keeps holdin’ on, holdin’ on for another day.
‘Cause that’s what it means to live

In a world where our questions are haunted ‘cause life’s not as fair as we all wanted,
Where the innocent die, we ask why.
And still we await the reply.

‘Cause blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.
And blest are the hands that keep givin’ but never receive.
Blest is the heart that gets broken but keeps holdin’ on, holdin’ on for another day.
‘Cause that’s what it means to live by faith.
