Assumptions about Salvation

I had to give the last answer - "not enough contact to have an idea/opinion" - for every single one, except South Baptist, and that one only because I was raised in Southern Baptist churches (and I chose not to include my experiences with people on this board in determining my answers - I have no way to conclude whether or not those on this board are representative of those in their particular affiliation). And even then I answered 67%, based on my experiences.

Hmmm, several voting but no replies. Okay, I'll post one. I didn't have experience with most of the denominations listed and of course had to vote inexperience. However, I guess I was with the Bible on the Baptists (all of them)....

I didn't answer any of the questions because I cannot presume to know these things.

I do know that fundamentalists tend to label all people in other churches as being unsaved. From personal experience, I have known many fine Christians in the Anglican Church. On the other hand, I have seen the performance of some Baptists that makes one think.....and sometimes out loud.

The trend seems to be "everyone who believes like me is most likely born again".

It may not be appropriate, but it's understandable.

 

Just out of curiosity, do you believe just like me?

 

I couldn't answer, I can not base answers on this poll on maybe a handfull of people from each of these denoms I might have known. Or none from the some of others on the list. I also don't think we can say a lot of people from anyone particular denom are probably not saved based only on their church name.

 

The poll told me more about myself than it did
about any group. I was solidly surprised at
the answers I chose.

 

Given that liberalism permeates the many of the major denominations (ex., United Methodists, Presbyterian U.S.A), one has to question whether or not the majority of some groups are Christian. I disagree that the determing factor is whether or not any of these groups believe as I do. The determining factor is--What do they do with the Word of God?

Having said that, I'll say that among Presbyterians, for instance, there may be a higher percentage of those in OPC or PCA churches that are truly Christian than there are in many Baptist groups.

 

When I meet a member of any denomination that claims Christ as a Savior, I believe them and treat them as a brother or sister in Christ. It is not my position to judge the veracity of those claims and really only God and that person know the truth. It is my position to join them in fellowship and worship of what we share in common, Christ.

I have discovered in talking with friends in various denominations that the language surrounding "salvation" differs -- but again we still have in common the most important thing, Christ.

As to the poll, I chose not enough information/contact for each question.

Edited to add: I think it is important to remember at times that just because we disagree with another denominations/individuals stance on certain issues that we should automatically assume that their salvation is false.
