what about the Skoal car, Miller car, Viagra car and Coors car? I like the driver and his style. I don't drink the beer or buy the cars. I just watch the race and like the driver. Him and his Dad Big "E" went to church before every race. BUD is just his sponsor not his lifestyle!

    Preacher Nathan Knight,
I have no disagreement that it is good to be in God's house. Where I do disagree is the amount of time spent there. My family of 5, not including special meetings, visitation, etc. is at church for 7 1/2 hours each week on average.

    christfollower55
When I stay home on Sunday nights, I am not dealing with hussle and bussle of life. I do want to go to church; that's why I do. There is nothing I would rather do than be in God's house on Sunday morning and Wednesday night. I also want to find time in the busy week to spend quality time with my kids. Too many kids see their families way too little. There has to be a balance. How do we determine that balance? What verse of scripture tells us how much time we should spend in church? I don't know of one. for that reason, I pray and ask God to help me find the balance I need. For me and my family, we, praise God, have found it. [IMG] Believe me (I know that is asking a lot because all you know of my is a handful of posts on a bulletin board [IMG] ), if the Holy Spirit convicts me of my absense on Sunday nights, I will be there.
I know I am taking great liberty (not trying to add to God's Word) at saying this, but "there is a time for attending church, there is a time for enhancing relationships within your family."

    Sue,
You are absolutely right, I could use that excuse to do those things, but I don't. [IMG]

I'm not surprised, because we do those same things. ;) We don't allow the TV on except on weekends and then it is Veggie Tales, or one of the better Disney movies. I have a 2-year-old, 4-year-old, and 8-year-old. Gametime can be fun, but we honestly have so very little time during the week that we don't have time for it. That's why we do it on Saturday and Sunday nights.

    All,
Although time I spend in church is a big part of who I am as a Christian, it does not define me completely. There are countless hours I spend each week in prayer and Bible reading and study, visiting those in my flock, maintaining the church website, delivering food to the church for distribution to the community, creating the children's church bulletin, singing in the choir, preparing for Sunday school, directing the Royal Ambassadors, etc. Just because someone doesn't attend church every time the doors are opened, doesn't mean that that person isn't just as busy serving God through the local church.

To sum it up, I believe that we all have to rely on God to direct us as far as the number of hours we spend on church property. When we have that peace from God, we don't have to answer to anybody about it (althought I just spent the last 20 minutes trying to explain myself. :D [IMG] )

Maybe you should check out the Dale Earnhardt, Jr, episode of MTV's "Cribs". Evidently, it is his lifestyle.

Well, I stay home when I have a cold too, or when the kids have colds, and I get annoyed if I see someone come in coughing and blowing their nose, they should stay home too. If God wanted us there that day (and YES colds are contagious) he'd heal us first.

I believe a lost person can put the spiritual laws into effect concerning tithing. I don't know anyone like that at our church, but I DO know some people of a different faith that I believe are lost. They tithe and reap financial blessings because of it.

CF55: If anyone contracts SARS...I hope they find that as a good enough excuse to stay out of church!

JC: How about this? If God tells you NOT to go to church on Sunday nights, then stay home. [IMG]

    Blessings,
    Sue

Sue, If you had read my last post, I said if you are really sick like the flui or a bad fever or something of that nature, then that is a lagitament "REASON" to stay out of church. It is not an "EXCUSE" There are no "EXCUSES" to stay out of church..

My dear brother, I am sorry I didn't make myself clear. I'm not talking about missing church for things that are not contagious. I'm talking about colds and flu, etc, that ARE contagious. I have seen children come into our nurseries with green runny noses, infecting all the other children. I have gone through this with all 3 of my kids...being exposed to this and then my children all being sick for 2 weeks. This has happened to so many of our church children and they are trying to have policies to prevent folks from bringing in their children to the nurseries sick. There are other churches in the area that have notices up that you cannot bring your children in that have been sick.

The reason I said I have the courage to stay out is because we are always taught to never miss church unless we were on our death beds. I have nearly killed myself to get to church only days after c-sections because of guilt trips from well-meaning folks. I have stayed up until 5:00 am with newborn babies, but went right on to church. I will not do that again. I think the Good Lord does not intend for us to be so harsh about it. He truly knows our real situations. [IMG] He knows our hearts. He knows we'd be there joyfully if we could.

I thought I posted on this thread, but I can't find it. Must be out in cyber-space somewhere or in the wrong thread

I totally agree with Abiyah's post in which she stated:
I felt neglected as a child because I felt my mother put church ahead of family. I have stated in other threads that I think we should put God first, family second, and church third.

The sickest I have ever been was when I was six years old when I caught the measles at church. This was not the three day measles but the two-three weeks measles.

It is between a person (family) and God how often they go to church and no one should be made to feel guilty by another church member about church attendance and the person should not have to make excuses to anyone...

We do attend most church services. We have a very full day on Sunday:

    Sunday School
    Church
Activities for all ages in the evening and church service.

Wednesday night Prayer service and Choir Practice

Bible Studies on other days during the week.

We have one service a week, Sundays at 11, then discussion after. I attend fairly regularly. And some of us get together fairly regaulrly for study and fellowship, but that isn't at the meetinghouse, and isn't just members (heck, I'm not even an official member). And sometimes a few of us get together for dinner or something.

Re: Hebrews 10:25, I don't think that means that we must be in church every time the doors are open. I mean, spending time with family members - even when your church is meeting - is hardly "forsaking the assembling of ourselves." Particularly since the way many of us do church I wouldn't really consider to be fellowship.

But I suppose some of that depends on your particular church group.

Am I in meeting every time the doors are open? No. Do I think I'm sinning by not being there every time a meeting is held? No.

What I find interesting reading here on this board is that it seems many of your churches actually have a meeting for worship on Wednesday nights, which my home church did not have. Yes, there were activities (choir rehearsal, youth group (which I did not attend as a youth), kids' stuff and other various and sundry things. But no "church" service or anything. So, Gina, in your case, if you'd attended that church on a Wednesday night, there really wouldn't have been anything for you to do, unless you wanted to watch the choir practice (in the sanctuary), or knew where another meeting was being held.

In that church, there were about 15 or 20 activities a week, including the two worship services on Sunday. Granted, not all of them were appropriate for all members, but still, if I'd gone to every meeting "appropriate" for me, I'd have been there about 15 hours a week. No, I'm not saying "that's just not practical" or anything like that, just giving you the low down.

Looking back, I probably should have sought a different church as soon as I was able to drive, since that one was not feeding me at all (and I'd been attending since I was 8), but I didn't. I think it was understood that families went to the same church.

Whoa, anyway. I'm glad, Gina, that you discovered your church's Wednesday meeting!

I didn't mean start something on this, but since I already did...... no I don't cheer for the skoal, or coors or viagra cars (though it seems in a different class). I got into NASCAR when my baby son, who had CP, loved watching the colorful cars on TV and as the years passed we started following the Mellow Yellow Car of Kyle Petty. We dropped him when he went to Coors. I didn't think it was appropriate for a little boy to root for the Coors car and if it wasn't right for him, it wasn't right for his daddy either. I have to say the argument"what about the Skoal car, Miller car, Viagra car and Coors car?" is a terrible response anyway. If Rusty Wallace and Mark Martin jumped in a lake.....

So tell me....Is a Wednesday night service Biblical or tradtional?

I am not picking sides. Heck...my wife and I usually end up being at church 4 out of 7 nights a week anyhow, but my question is: Should you become a judge if someone does not attend Wednesday night service?

Our church has numerous services each week.

Sunday morning: 8:30 Church Service, 9:45 Sunday School for all ages, 11:00 Church Service (which usually gets out after 12:30).

Sunday Afternoon: 4:00 Choir Practice, Faith Evangelism. 5:00 Discipleship Classes for all ages. 6:00 Church Service.

    Tuesday: Senior's activities

Wednesday Night: 5:00 Children's Choir, 6:20 AWANA Club, 6:30 Prayer Meeting, 7:30 Choir Practice.

    Saturday: Bus Visitation

We attend S/S and 11:00 on Sunday. We have not been attending on Sunday night since I gave up teaching Mission Friends this school year. We also attend Wednesday nights. I'm an AWANA leader and hubby is an AWANA listener. Saturdays, we either visit or call every visitor who filled out a card the previous week and check in with over 80 church members. Sunday mornings, we also pick up some people without transportation and bring them to S/S. That means we have to leave home extra early.

That's enough for us for this time in our lives. We do what we feel led to do.

    Diane
