Then tell us where the A.V. says it is the only word of God. If you cannot show us this place in the A.V., then it seems you must admit that the A.V. is not your only standard. Everyone (but you apparently) knows that your only standard is not the A.V. for you cannot produce any A.V. proof of your position.

But you are missing the point of this thread, namely that Scripture reveals God taking things into Egypt to preserve them in bad times. He took Jacob and his sons to Egypt to preserve them in famine. He took his own Son to preserve them in Egypt. ON the basis of Scripture, you cannot say that everything coming out of Egypt is sinful. That would be to call Christ sinful and it would clearly be wrong.

Sidebar regarding Clement of Alexandria and Plato:

    JYD said:

    3.Clement,believed(get this)Plato's writings were INSPIRED.Whoa!!

    Brian rejoined:

And do you have evidence to back up this claim?

Of course not. It's a false claim.

Clement was, of course, a lover of philosophy, and rightly a critic of the negative opinion many Christians of the day had about philosophy. He had a very high regard for Plato and, following the lead of contemporary Christian and Jewish thinkers such as Philo and Justin Martyr, he argued that Plato was familiar with the Law of Moses and that the Greek philosophers had plagiarized the Hebrew Scriptures.

Clement did not believe Plato was divinely inspired. He said Plato wrote as if he were divinely inspired, because he was a lover of truth, and because of his broad agreement with Judeo-Christian moral teaching. In fact, Clement argued that Greek philosophy was inferior to Moses and Christ; it was he who first called philosophy the "handmaid of theology."

Evidence: The Stromata, particularly Books 1, 2, and 6, where he discusses the Hebrew influence on Greek philosophy.

Plato WAS inspired--his writings and those of the other great Greek philosophers have greatly influenced Western civilization. And you cannot call him a heretic since he predated Christ. [IMG]

OK, JYD. Which of us has not endured sound doctrine? Which of us clings to a false doctrine that is not borne out by scripture and in fact is contradictory to scripture? That would be the KJVO's.

Indeed, KJVOnlyism does turn from truth to fables... like how gnostics and heretics started a 2000 year conspiracy to corrupt the Bible and other more fantastic stories like the one where God dictated Riplinger's book to her.

If there was any proof for KJVOnlyism at all, I have no reason not to accept it. I grew up in a church that only used the KJV. All 4 of the churches I have been a member of only used the KJV. I used to be KJVO. I experienced the emotions of security, superiority, etc. it evokes. It feels good to look at everyone else as a "liberal". There is a secure feeling in reducing God's Word to one manageable, peculiar set of English words.

KJVO would be convenient for me... if it were only true. But for conscience sake in obedience to the Lord, I cannot embrace something I know to be false for any reason.

Good Grief!!Now it's bad to feel secure in the bible you use? So I'm better off using any bible but the one I feel secure in using? What is wrong with the emotion of security?

</font>[/QUOTE]Heidi, you quoted what I said then immediately after argued with something I did not say. Please read what I wrote and deal with that if you wish. Please do not distort what I wrote.

Nothing necessarily- if it is for the right reasons. Because of God's promises, we can feel completely secure in our salvation.

The problem comes in when the feeling of security is an end in and of itself leading someone to avoid dealing with fact. The feeling of security is deceptive and possibly dangerous when based on a false premise.

KJVOnlyism is false. Any feeling of security derived from belieiving it is false.

The KJV is faithful version of God's Word, the truth. Feelings of security based on what it teaches are true.

    Your sarcasm is unbecoming.

I invite you once again to read what I wrote then compare it with what you complain that I said. As a matter of fact, I feel secure in the Bible versions I use. The KJV is my primary Bible but I also consult the NKJV and NASB on a fairly routine basis.

Its a wonderful blessing to have the choice of several accurate translations of God's Word. Christians 800 years ago couldn't even imagine such. If I were forced somehow to only use one version, I would feel secure in any one of the three.

You guys are into a good path here. Egypt was a place of 'safekeeping' for many centuries... Abraham, Joseph, the Israelites, Jesus... Nothing 'godly' went into Egypt for preservation tht didn't come back out even better.

I was just trying to say I'm sorry I misunderstood you. No sarcasm intended. I hope you can forgive me .
No sarcasm intended. I just could not find in my heart the urge to argue with you.I didn't realize I sounded sarcastic and I'm sorry.

I apologize as well in that case. The "Mr. Scott J" along with "it must be terrible to be distorted" were the things that made me think you were being sarcastic.

If I was wrong about your intent, I truly am sorry.

Well put, Alcott, well put. And, as stated before, I trust knowledge that comes out of Alexandria much more than out of some place of more crass commercialism, as Antioch was. Alexandria excelled in the preservation and love of knowledge for its own sake. What I've read of Clement and his successors does not lead me to believe they would have "corrupted" the Bible. Far more likely, they would have been careful to keep it intact.
