Perhaps there is something to the theory that the US and Britain are the two Birthright sons of ancient patriach Joseph.
--- the old British-Israel theory about the Lost Ten Tribes.

Afterall, Joseph's eldest son, Manasseh, was to be a great nation, while the younger son, Ephraim, was to be a company of nations / a commonwealth of nations (Gen. 48:19-20, 35:11).

"The Sceptre shall not depart from Judah…." (Gen. 49:10)

    "But the Birthright is Joseph's" (1Chronicles 5:2).

When the northern ten-tribed Israel was taken captive by Assyria in 721-718 BC, the Bible says none returned. There was never a miraculous EXODUS from ancient Assyria.

Instead, when Babylon subjugated Assyria, the captive Israelites wandered with their former captors into Europe, and toward Scandinavia and the British Isles.

The very name Brit-ish means Covenant-Man.

It is a significant fact that the tribe of Dan, one of the Ten Tribes, named every place they went after their father, Dan.

The tribe of Dan originally occupied a strip of coast country on the Mediterranean, west of Jerusalem. "And the coast of the children of Dan went out too little for them: therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem, and took it...and called Leshem, DAN, after the name of Dan their father" (Joshua 19:47).

In Judges 18:11-12, it is recorded that Danites took Kirjath-jearim, "and called that place Mahaneh-dan unto this day."

A little later the same company of 600 armed Danites came to Laish, captured it, and "they called the name of the city DAN, after the name of Dan, their father" (vs. 29).

Speaking to Ephraim (Jeremiah 31:20-21), the Lord says, "Set you up waymarks, make you high heaps; set your heart toward the highway, even the way which you went."

Jacob said of Dan, "Dan shall be a serpent by the way". Another translation says, "Dan shall be a serpent's trail" (Gen. 49:17).

In Hebrew, vowels were not written. The sound of the vowels had to be supplied in speaking. Thus, the word "Dan" in its English equivalent, could be spelled, simply, "Dn". It might be pronounced as "Dan", "Den", "Din", "Don", "Dun" -- and still could be the same original Hebrew name.

In either ancient or later geography, we find these waymarks: Dan-au, Dan-aster, Dan-ish, Dan-mark or Den-mark, Don-egal City, Duns-more, Din-gle.

So the "serpent's trail" of Dan sets up waymarks that lead directly to the British Isles.

Hi, wopik, and welcome to the board. [IMG]

Funny thing, isn't it, how the UK, Australia, Canada, US, always stick together on things ? Really ironic, isn't it? (If not public policy, then privately, like the current war in Iraq ? Three public: US & UK & Australia. Canada is privately supporting the war. What a coincidence!

And have you ever noticed how with the war in Iraq going on, the THREE NATIONS most hated by the rest of the world and being called on to commit "jihad" against are.... yep, you guessed it....

US / UK / Israel. Yep, coincidence, all right.

The two sticks of Ezekial will come together one day and one day all eyes will be opened. [IMG]

Surely this is a joke. Or are you Herbert Armstrong come back from the dead?

There is no, repeat no, evidence to suggest this. I'm sure the Angles and Danes would have been shocked to hear of this assertion. First, there is absolutely no connection between the languages. Second, the "racial" features are entirely different. Third, isn't it odd that this crops up 1,800 years after the fact, with no hint of it before that.

Besides that, the English purposely rejected Danish heritage because of the bitter memories of the Norse invasions. Despite their success in England, the Norse left relatively few words behind.

The reason the Americans, British and Aussies have had a close relationship if because of a community of interest. The Americans truly hated the British for a century, a situation that was not defused until the settlement of the Alabama claims.

The Aussie relationship goes back to WWII, when the Japanese were poised to invade Australia and the only force avalable to stop them were the American Army and the ANZACs.

Wow. I took "Major Cults" back in college in 66 and read up on this dying cult.

By the time I began teaching Comparative Religions (in the same college in 96) that group was totally off the radar. It did not qualify to even be included in the study.

WHERE did you come up with this stuff? You brought a smile to my tired brow! [IMG]

    It gets better!

In Genesis 48, Jacob even adopted Joseph's two sons as his own (Gen. 48:5), making the older grandchild, Manasseh, the thirteenth son / tribe. Jacob(Israel) even passed on his very name to these two lads, "Let my name be named on them" (Gen. 48:16). These two grandchildren of Israel's were inheriting the Birthright plus the right to carry their grandfather's name, ISRAEL.

Manasseh was, in fact, a thirteenth tribe. When Joseph divided into two tribes and Manasseh separated into an independent nation, it became a thirteenth tribe. Could it be mere coincidence the United States started, as a nation, with thirteen colonies?

Amos was told to prophesy to the northern Kingdom, Israel, to the 'house of Isaac' (Amos 1:1 & 7:11-16).
Our forefathers were to be sifted through many nations, as corn through a sieve, yet not a grain to fall to the Earth, or be lost (Amos 9:9). Thus we have become known as the "melting pot" of the world. Instead of refuting our Manasseh ancestry, this fact actually confirms it.

This is NOT, I repeat, NOT, Armstrongism or British Israelism. British Israelism teaches replacement theology. This is different. It is not a cult. [IMG]

It all brings a smile to my tired brow, as well, but probably not in the same way as you, Dr. Bob. [IMG] [IMG]

I consider the following as partial evidence that the Northern Kingdom, Israel, did migrate north and west from Jerusalem and the Middle East:

Hosea 12:1 says "Ephraim follows after the east wind" - an eastwind travels west; the Lord told Jeremiah to proclaim to backsliding Israel that she "justified herself more than treacherous Judah. Go and proclaim these word toward the NORTH and say, 'Return backsliding Israel, says the Lord' " (Jer. 3:11-12).

"I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn. Hear the word of the Lord, O you nations [Ephraim and Manasseh] and declare it in the isles afar off...(Jer. 31:9-10).

When Jeremiah wrote these words, Israel had been removed from Palestine more than 130 years earlier.

After saying, "How shall I give you up, Ephraim?" the Lord speaking through Hosea, says: "then the children shall tremble for the West" (Hosea 11:8,10).

When the Lord swore to David to perpetuate his throne, He said, "I will set his hand [sceptre] in the sea" (Ps.89:25).

Lay a line due northwest of Jerusalem across the continent of Europe, until you come to the sea, and then to the island in the sea! This line takes you directly to the British Isles!

    Dr. Bob Griffin --

Why don't people seem to understand that only a part of the "children of Israel" were Jews? The first time the word "Jews" is found in the Bible, the Jews are at war with Israel -- 2Kgs. 16:6. Wouldn't that concept boggle the modern mind!

Neither Joseph nor his descendents were Jews.

From a biblical standpoint, it appears that the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah were to be two seperate political entities until David would once again rule over both (Ezekiel 37) after the resurrection (vs.12). At that time, God says, "and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all" (vs.22).
