Phrases From Phillips

I appreciate the Phillips version . It is a great read . I realize it is not as exacting as a NASBU for instance , but it does convey the biblical message in a way that is stimulating . When Phillps came out with his NT it was startling to the Christian public . That was then . We are used to that kind of version these days .

I have his book " The Ring Of Truth " . I want to buy your God Is Too Small" and some others .

His most famous rendering is Romans 12:1,2 . With eyes wide open to the mercies of God , I beg you , my brothers , as an act of intelligent worship , to give him your bodies , as a living sacrifice , consecrated to him and acceptable by him . Don't let the world around you squeeze you into its mould , but let God re-make you so that your whole attitude of mind is changed . Thus you will prove in practice that the will of God's [ Yes, "God is" would have been better ]good , acceptable to him and perfect .

What I will do here is just give brief snatches do give you a sampling of his unique wording . I will not identify chapter and verse , just the book .

I didn't get my first copy of Phillips till October of last year . I just donated one of them to my church library . I don't know why I waited so long to get one . He has a refreshing way about the renderings .

I would agree with your post RSR . Some folks think they are very familiar with the Bible ( that is , specifically the KJV ) yet they may be missing a lot of things in their reading and study . If you are overly familiar with something there may be some blind-spots along the way .

The Phillps can get us to reexamine things a bit -- shake us and revitalize us .
