    Found some more for you:

    Matthew 19:9
    And Luke 16:18
Well...you wanted Scripture. Christ says that divorce is a sin. Why is it a sin? Because you are committing adultery. And it is in the Ten Commandments, from God Himself, that adultery is a sin. Hope these two posts were helpful!

If you have ever told even one white lie, your sins are equal to those of Sandy Patti. All it takes is one unforgiven sin.

Funny how everyone who disagrees with my viewpoint seems to ignore the second part of Jesus' admonition. Divorce is not a sin. God Himself has divorced Israel. It is the actions of the person following the divorce which are or are not sinful.

it's yuour viewpoint...but you are also not looking at the whole picture. I posted the complete passages...Jesus says that by divorcing you are causing adultery. So...if one divorces another they are causing them to sin...and causing another person to stumble is sin.

Maybe you're not looking at the whole picture.

Batpist in Richmond. I was not discussing the sin that Sandy Patti has committed, but the fact that divorce is a sin. I also believe that what she has done is between her and God, but I refuse to just stand by while someone is saying that something which is clearly in the Bible is not a sin. That's what my posts have been about since i started posting in this thread, they were never about Sandy Patti.

Well, at least we agree on something.

    I disagree with you here.
You quoted Matthew 19: there is clearly one instance of divorce that is permitted in this passage.
Additionally, what about the passage in the seventh chapter of I Corinthians? You quoted up to verse 13, but left out 14 and 15. There is yet another instance that is permitted.

I know it is not your fault, but somehow this digressed from a discussion about forgiveness for a brother/sister that stumbled to one involving the belief that divorce is/isn't a sin.

If a man divorcing his wife makes her commit adultery, how is it not a sin?

I believe Smaug did... </font>[/QUOTE]Yes, I did... and for the argument about a man causing his ex-wife to commit adultery, is this still true if she remains celibate?

Ok...Let me just take and give you the Catholic view...it makes much sense too.

When you are married and the marriage is valid (there were no false pretenses and not illegal), then the husband and wife cannot divorce. They can get a divorce from the state, but that is only seperation (a legal seperation). Now, because you can never divorce in God's eyes, you will always be married, and anytime you have any extra-marital relations or date another person, you would be committing adultery. Now...if a person remains celibate, the act of adultery is still possible. Adultery isn't necessarily marital relations.

The Catholics can explain my view much better than I can!

    What?
    Adultery or fornication?
And I still maintain that if a divorced Christian is forgiven and remarried, then they are NOT to divorce, nor are they to remain celibate. You have made this claim yet again and I am still waiting for the Scripture to justify holding this out as doctrine.

The Catholic Church allowed one of the Kennedys to annul a marriage so that he could remarry someone else.
