Interestingly, I find controversial passages concerning Paul in the New Testament.

    Was Paul a priest?

    Look at Romans 15:16 --

NASB "to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit."

CEV "He chose me to be a servant of Christ Jesus for the Gentiles and to do the work of a priest in the service of his good news. God did this so that the Holy Spirit could make the Gentiles into a holy offering, pleasing to him."

KJV "That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost." :D

I don't know what the Greek says there but you didn't include other versions that say it like the KJV:

(ASV) that I should be a minister of Christ Jesus unto the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be made acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

(Darby) for me to be minister of Christ Jesus to the nations, carrying on as a sacrificial service the message of glad tidings of God, in order that the offering up of the nations might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

(Geveva Bible) That I should be the minister of Iesus Christ toward the Gentiles, ministring the Gospel of God, that the offering vp of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the holy Ghost.

(Literal Translation of The Holy Bible) for me to be a minister of Jesus Christ to the nations, sacredly ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the nations might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

(MKJV) that I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the nations, ministering the gospel of God, so that the offering up of the nations might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

So your arguemnt that the KJV is better because it doesn't have the word priest doesn't work even in the English becasue many other versions don't have the word either.

Greek word here is NOT the usual for "minister".

Minister here is "leitourgos" = a public servant, i.e. a functionary in the Temple or Gospel, or a worshipper (of God) or benefactor (of man):-a minister

Ministering here is "hierourgeo" =to be a temple-worker, i.e. officiate as a priest

Seems like, again, the Modern versions got it right and corrected the looser translation of the AV.

(Other NT word for "minister" is the much more commone diakonos, or servant)

    One doesn't need to
know the Greek, one only needs to read the
    REAL King James Version [IMG]

    Romanes XV:16 (KJV1611):

That I should be the minister
of Iesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministring
the Gospel of God, that the ||offering
vp of the Gentiles might be acceptable,
being scantified by the holy Ghost.

    Translator's sidenote: Or, sacrificing

    Recall that a minister offers,
a priest sacrifices. So here indeed Paul
    is a "priest".

Has anybody here besides me heard of
"the Doctrine of the PRIESTHOOD of the
believer" It is a standard Baptist
    distinctive doctrine [IMG]

Don't point out the obvious to the KJV-onlyists, Ed. You'll just confuse them. [IMG]
