Sounds like a very interesting topic. I just found this book on the Internet that might be worth investing in for this study...

The first 4 feasts have been realized.

It is not a coincidence that the next feast is the Feast of Trumpets.

Anyway, the word for "feasts" could also be understood as "appointed times".

Of course, one must be premillenial to appreciate and understand this.

 

I just found a list of the feasts of Israel.

The three that have three asterisks (***) in front of them are the ones which every able male was expected to attend.

Note that of the seven prescribed feasts of Moses, the first three all have to do with the First Coming of Christ, the last three have to do with the Second Coming, and the one in the middle, Pentecost, is the birth date of the Church.

According to Colossians 2:16-17, holy days are a shadow of things to come.

The Feast of Purim

Scripture passage in Esther 9: 17-26

This feast commemorated the deliverance of the Jews from the evil hand of Haman. Haman was the enemy of the Jews who sought to have them destroyed.

Now, Mordecai had written instructions that the Jews were to celebrate this "Independance/Liberation" day as a memorial--so the Jews, once a year, celebrated it---and in their celebration they did two things--

1. They celebrated it by fact "looking back" to that day that they were finally free from Haman. Man, what a party that surpasses our "Boston Tea!" They participated in it in reflection---their enemy had been destroyed--no longer were they under his yoke but they were now under the yoke of freedom.

2. They celebrated it by faith "looking forward" to something!! By faith they looked forward to the fact that one day Messiah would come and free them from the yoke of the devil.

Did you know that one day in Gloryland--what was done in the shadow of Puram will be done in broad daylight? The feast of Purum pictures the coming deliverance of God's Saints from the influence of the devil. "And he who the Son sets free will be free indeed!"

You and I as Gentile believers can participate in this feast, too! By faith!!!!! By faith we can believe with all of our hearts that Jesus will one day come and lead captivity captive! By faith we can believe that our deliverance from the devil once and for all is already a done deal. When we participate in this feast by faith--we tell Almighty God--"Its a done deal!!" "Its as if it has already taken place!"

THE FEAST OF FIRSTFRUITS

Scripture passages: Leviticus 23: 10-11
Numbers 29
1Corinthians 15: 20&23

This feast would take place in the spring of the year and involved grain crops. Back in Bible days a good majority of Israelites were farmers.

The winter time of the year is when the farmer would begin to plant his grain crops. Winter, of course, is usually a dormant time--deadness. The farmer would plant the grain crop then and would watch it spring out of the ground and green up the country side.

The farmer would then keep a close watch on his barley field--this barley usually was the first of the grain crop to "head up" and reach full maturity ahead of the other crops such as rye and wheat.

The farmer would watch, watch, watch with increased intensity and interest. Looking for that first full head of barley to reach full maturity in that planted field of barley. He'd watch close--he'd walk through the field! He'd watch it close--each individual stalk of barley as the crop hastened to maturity!

He'd then single out the first stalk of barley in his field that reached full maturity--make his way over to that particular shock of barley--pluck it up and would make his way to the temple area--with that first full head of mature barley--he's anxious! He's gonna present that first full head of mature barley to the priest--that first full head of barley became that farmer's "FirstFruits!" He would proclaim in front of the priest as he held that stalk of mature grain in his hand--"FirstFruits! FirstFruits! FirstFruits!"---and that would be the the promise from the farmer that the rest of the crop was guaranteed to come up to full maturity not very far in the near future!!

The Apostle Paul declares in 1 Corinthians 15: 20 & 23 that the Lord Jesus Christ has become our "First Fruits" from the dead--His resurrection thus guarantees yours and mine!!

Jesus Christ rose from the dead! FirstFruits!

And because He rose--guess what?? Me, too! My resurrection is guaranteed because of His!!

"But every man in his own orders: Christ the FirstFruits; afterward they that are Christ's at His coming."

God the Father thus it the picture of the farmer planting. Jesus is the firstfruits of the Father's labor--and the rest of the crop(saved people) are not far behind in the harvest!

THE FEAST OF TRUMPETS
Leveticus 23 and Numbers 29

According to the sources I have this feast was a celebration of the Jewish "New Year". The Jews were always sticklers of precise time and minute details--they prove it over and over in the Old and New Testament.

This Jewish new year falls on our October of the Roman calender--those with a Jewish detailed calender of months can figure this one out on your own. Anyway--here's how it would happen.

There would be a period of time before the new year in the moon's cycle where the phase would be at a "no moon" cycle--there's one every month! This time of month--the moon doesn't shine!

At this phase of the month--right before the coming of the new moon--the priests would send out witnesses into the midnight dark of the nite--to watch the skies! They'd perch themselves in a field to be able to see from horizon to horizon--and they'd watch the sky for the sign of a new moon!

They'd watch! Watch the sky! Lookin' for the first sign of the slightest sliver of a cresent being formed by the moon that would usher in the new year for the Jews.

Then it would appear---one of the many witnesses would spot it---the slightest sliver of a cresent being formed by the new moon phase --usherin' in the New Year for the Jew---the witness would spot the sliver---and with a loud voice would begin to shout--"Blow the Trumpet!" "Blow the Trumpet!"--there would be a priest at the temple with a trumpet--when he heard the witness proclaiming the discovery of the new moon and his proclaimation---he would put his lips to the trumpet and would begin to blow---ushering in a brand new year! The priest would blow the "Horn of Salvation!"

OOOOOH! But the Bible speaks of a coming new year---eternity is just a Trumpet blast away! Revelation 4 gives us a preview of things to come when the Apostle hears the trumpet call--

There's a trumpet in heaven that fits the lips of Jesus just right! Amen?? His lips are puckered in position---waitin' on the witness(the Holy Spirit) to proclaim his discovery of the new phase of moon--and the words from the Father---"Son! Blow the trumpet! The New Year is here!" Folks, if you will allow Blackbird to say--Jesus IS Heaven's Trumpet!! He is "Heaven's Horn of Salvation!"

Yes, the word "shofar" is what is used in almost every instance of "trumpet" in the Old Testament EXCEPT at Rosh Hashana. These were 2 special silver horns made only for use on this day.

Here are some things that should be said regarding these feasts.

The first one, Passover, begins with a week long celebration called Unleavened Bread. All leaven is removed from every house. There are some beautiful shadows/pictures of Christ in this but it would take a long explanation.

The Feast of Passover calls for sacrifices at 9 AM and again at 3 PM. Jesus was hung on the cross at 9 AM and taken down at 3 PM at the EXACT time the Passover Lamb was being sacrificed.

If you have even been to a Passover seder, you would be amazed at the order of service. I don't understand how anyone could NOT see this entire liturgy speaking of Jesus. Apart from that understanding it would make no sense....they do it because it is tradition!

After that, He is literally resurrected ON THE FEAST OF FIRSTFRUITS.

after 50 days, the Holy Spirit is given ON THE FEAST OF PENTECOST.

These have been literally fulfilled and there are 3 yet to come.

Rosh Hashanna - this is the NEW YEAR but it begins on the first day of the SEVENTH month. When the High Priest blows the trumpet, you are to drop whatever you are doing and go to the Temple.

Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)- I believe this speaks of the redemption of Israel as a nation. This is the day when they will "look upon Him whom they have pierced"

Succot (Feast of Tabernacles) - this day celebrates when God dwelt with Israel in boothes. Emmanuel....God with us.

This speaks of the day when we will live with Him and see Him face to face.
