But who appointed you the judge over what other adults should watch? It is not your job to censor what they see.

Have you even seen the show in question?

It is certainly your right not to watch or support it, but it is other people's right to decide for themselves.

I believe it was freedom of speech which gives her the right to speak her mind and let the network and advitisers know how she feels about their programming. Is that the ever sacred 1st amendment that liberals used to love so much?

JB, I don't disagree with her right to speak, protest, boycott or whatever (a fact that you would see if you had read my entire post). What I DO object to is her appointing herself judge over what other adults can see or do.

If you want to watch the trash, go ahead. Don't sign her petition. Better yet, start your own campaign to praise the network and advertisers for their filth. I bet you could get every liberal in America to sign it. Call Bill Clinton. He might even like to be your spokesperson. Just don't you try to shame Sue for speaking out against sin and speaking her mind. She has no more control over you than what you give her.

Once again, JB, you make crazy leaps of logic. Did I say I want to watch the show? Did I even advocate it one way or the other? The answer to both questions is NO! I also clearly said Sue has the right to speak her mind, organize, boycott or whatever. Her statement appointing herself arbiter of decency is what I objected to.

What is filth to you may not be to others. It's called freedom. It's a good thing.

I would also bet that Sue has not even seen the program in question to know if it is filth or not.

Your constant railing against "liberals" makes me think that Patrick Buchanan is probably a liberal from your perspective.

As for President Clinton, it wasn't MY state that elected him governor! [IMG]

As long as one's protests are kept on a private level, that is fine. It's when people try to use government power to impose their beliefs that a problem arises, regardless of whether it is done by liberals or by conservatives.

There is no reason why a person cannot voice their opposition to a given program and/or call for a boycott of a show's advertisers. Being a Californian, I can remember a national table grape boycott organized to support the UFW.

Colorado: I'm sorry if you took my post to mean I was appointing myself an arbiter of decency. I am not forcing anyone to do anything. I merely made the information available. People can either choose to sign the petition or choose not to.

You are correct in assuming that I have never watched the show, nor will I. I don't have to taste whiskey to know it will make me drunk, nor do I have to smoke a cigarette to know it will kill me. I have come to trust Conservative Petitions information on things. They watch the shows so I don't have to.

Ken: I agree. No government here. [IMG] I signed the petition and am boycotting as a private citizen and as a Christian.

    Blessings,
    Sue

</font>[/QUOTE]If I misunderstood your intent, apologies back to you. In any case, I trust no one to judge for me if something is objectionable. They could be wrong. If I am going out of my way to protest something, I want first hand knowledge of what I am protesting. [IMG]

Who made Sue judge of what you should watch?
The same person who made me one. [IMG]
It's a God given right. If the bible says it we're expected to not only carry it out but to teach it and persuade others to believe as we do.
We are to judge all things. This is one of them. Sleaziness is condemned in the bible, as would be all the time frivolously spent on promoting said sleaziness. Ok, so that's not word for word, but you know what it says and you know what it means.
The only problems I see are Christians who are giving into the "politically correct" trash that tells us we are to meekly accept the (un)beliefs of others.

    Gina,

With all due respect, what I or anyone else chooses to watch, is no business of yours. Period! I don't tell you what to watch, nor do you tell me.

If you claim to be a brother to me through Christ you're part of my family and therefore it DOES concern me. As your sister I reserve the right to question questionable behavior. [IMG]
I'm putting out a six hour notice of closure on this thread as it's reached three pages, so until 3am EST keep 'em coming, and I'm thinking few of us will be awake to close it until morning, but it's a possibility. ;)

Ah, but even without accepting other's beliefs and actions, we must be willing to allow them the freedom of their beliefs and actions if we expect them to extend the same attitude toward us, even fellow Christians. [IMG]

Nothing is worse than someone using their position of authority for their own benefit.

ColoradoFB said something that Gina, who is a moderator on this section of the BB, doesn't like and now the thread will be closed within 12 hours. Way to go Gina.

I know that this thread is reaching its three page limit, but the demeanor of the post left little doubt as to why the thread was being closed.

That's not correct. Every single thread on this section of the board is closed at 3 pages. My involvement in a thread has nothing to do with it, and in fact I do not enjoy having to close them while I am involved in an unfinished discussion, but it has been agreed that it was the rule.
What was wrong with my demeanor? :( I felt as if he didn't understand why I would care what others watched and I explained it.

Allowing them is a must, but accepting them is different. I have friends with all manners of different beliefs, but none of us feel the need to say we think that the other is right or that our differences are "ok" with each other. Perhaps we're just an odd bunch, but we can basically sit down to tea and tell each other their beliefs are from the pit of hell and then make plans for the next day. [IMG] Accepting a person as a fellow human is one thing, but I can't back down on my beliefs to accomodate anyone's feelings. I can use non-provocative phrasing when stating it though. Hopefully. With more practice! :D

I'm not surprised to see Taco Bell and Yum Brands sponsoring this garbage on t.v.

By signing the petition, you can let all the sponsors know WHY you are boycotting them.

Revenue from sales (or the lack of it) talks!

Per the usual 3 page rule, this thread is now closed. Nothing abusive, it's just the Rules, Ladies and Gentlemen. [IMG]
