Things I don't like to see in the Version/Translation forum:

    1. The person who arrives with the attitude that
they (he or she) are God's only Prophet come to SAVE the

(Pick one or several modifiers: Liberal, cultic,
    degenerate, heathen, hyperconservative, ungodly, etc.)

    Baptist Board (BB).

    2. People who don't keep the Prime Directive of
    Bulletin Board (bbs):
    Read before you write.

Those who violate the Prime Directive of bbs
    don't notic that:

2A. pinned to the top is a good essay about five types
of KJVOs. So it is poor form for a KJVO4 to dis a KJVO2
-- aren't we on the same side?

2B. Nearly all arguments posted against ANY Bible that
appear in the paranoia on-line sites has already been debunked
    here.

2C. Everybody here is a Saved Christian person, many have
ministered professionally or unpaid for 20+ years. Those
who post here year after year are highly skilledlargely

2D. It really does hurt one's cause
and makes them look stupid if they can't tell
the difference between "their"', "there"', and "they're".
All these words are spelled right, but their usage may be
    wrong.
    Here is Ed's quick/hick guide:

THEIR - stuff what belongs to them
    THERE - over yonder
THEY'RE - short for THEY ARE

    Correct usage example sentence:
They're their own worse enemy over there.

2E. people who belong to an ignorance cult are NOT WELCOME here

2F. people who repeat the claims of others without checking them
may be eliminated from the race

2G. the phrase "KJV1611 Edition" has a specific meaning pointing
at a specific book. The phrases "AV1611", "AV 1611", or
"KJV1611" have no specific meaning. It is the duty of the
person using such phrases to define what they are talking about,
    if they know.

2H. Because there are multiple editions of the KJV floating
around; and because there are people here who actually check
each and every verse published on the Version/Translaton
Forum - there must be a Version, Book, Chapter, verse given
    for each Scripture quoted.

2I. Because there are multiple editions of the KJV floating
around, the term 'KJVs' is more correct the 'KJV' in most
    circumstances.

2J. The acceptable to the board meaning of 'inerrant'
has been and is being extablished on a poll we have been
    talking for three years now.
The majority/plurality opinion is that inerrancy is
present only in the original autographs.
People with minority opinions like mine (each honest
Bible is inerrant) can expect to be challenged and/or
    chewed up into little bits.

2K. The kindest, smartest, most scholarly, most decent,
most intellectul KJV-Only super-apologest used to post here.
He left, probably of his own volition, with out converting
anybody. Buletin boards (bbs) are NOT a good place to
    save folks from/for anthing.

2L. There is a page of rules here, you signed an agreement
to get in. Both are available nearby and should be read/studied.
They are not difficult nor grevious. This Forum also has
some rules, see the top of the list of Topics.

2M. There are people here who are qualified to teach logic
and logical errors. And they are willing to point the logical
errors out, if they are employed. The most grevious of which
is to get into a TIS-TAIN'T argument.

    3. people who are described by this passage

    2 Peter 2:10B (KJV1769 Edition):
    ... despise government. Presumptuous
are they, they are not agraid to speak evil
    of dignities.

Here is a remember of the current ranking of
    Government at BB:

3A. the moderators - they tirelessly read
the the board looking for malfactors. They can
edit what one says and recomment breaks &/or
banishment for those who don't cooperate
in accordance with the rules. You can contact
them by individual e-mail or PM. YOu can contact
the random moderator by clicking on REPORT POST.

3B. the administrators - they check up on the
moderators and really do take moderator advice,
if so inclined. They are also 'dignities'.

3E. by reason of longivitey, most anybody who has
been posting since early 2005 (when Google started taking
data from BB) or have over 5,000 posts is likely
    a dignity also.

    4. the person who goes elsewhere to recuit some
folks for their 'side'. There are other places with
one-trick-pony shoes that allow only one opinion. It is
a good place to go recuit some frinds with like viewpoints
-- as though many makes right.

I've been on several boards that promote a particular
viewpoint and send 'missionaries' out to argue other
places. They use the safe place to promote the argument.
I also know a kinder KJVO bb where when some.
    The rebuke is because they
figure the BB is beyond hope as a Liberal Bible spot ;)

    5. People who have had a 4-hour briefing of all some
un-trained in languages precher knows about versions
and translations, Bibles and translating - and think
they know more than seasoned pastors and Seminary professors
about versions and translations, Bibles and translating, etc.

Heresy is often equated with any false doctrine, as contrasted with Orthodoxy. And a key doctrine under attack is the Doctrine of Inspiration.

Historic orthodoxy states that God gave His Word (verbal, plenary inspiration) and holy men of old wrote as thus guided by the Spirit. Every word (as breathed by God in Greek/Hebrew) is perfect.

The attack comes when some try to then move this orthodox doctrine to encompass 1611 (or ANY year of ANY translation) and make the product of fallible men NOT thus guided by the Spirit and NOT given God-breathed actual words to pen have the same "double" inspiration.

Thus it attacks the foundational doctrine (first fundamental of the faith, first Baptist distinctive, et al).
</font>[/QUOTE]Okay, thanks for the explanation. I just thought 'heresy' was a little too strong a word to use, but now I can see where you and Doc C. are coming from.

Amen. And "heresy" is not a word used on the BB to attack. I prefer NOT to use it at all on the BVT Forum as it only inflames.

Good idea Dr. Bob. Maybe "heresy" shouldn't be used in any of these forums. It is often misused. For instance I know a number of people who would brand Fundamental Baptists as heretics. And their definition seems to be fairly well consistent with yours.

With all due respect, I don't agree that KJVO is heresy at all. Neither do I hold Fundamental Christianity to be heresy.

Too strict a definition of heresy leaves no room for "error." Error will be found in most all of us from time to time.

When there is a hole at the water line you either fix the hole or abandon ship. A good ship is a fine thing. But this ship is, IMO, defective and past repair.

Some of you seem to think that every thing would be fine if we could only get rid of certain trouble makers. I think that if the "trouble makers" were to go away the problems with this forum would remain.

I suggest that a private forum, open by invitation only, would best serve those who would like to converse between ivory towers.

"Why hang around?" The captain hasn't given the order to "abandon ship."

    God Bless,
    A.F.

I have learned a great deal here in the BVT forum. It would be a shame to close it down. I do not post as much as I used to here, but I still enjoy reading some of the discussions - especially the civil ones.

    really?

    A few thoughts.
    1. If you want to adandon ship, no one is stopping you from jumping. However, who are you to say that the rest of us must follow? If you dont see a point here, then leave. I dont mean that rudely, but how else can it be worded? It seems kinda dishonest to me to claim that you think this forum should be closed, yet many of the rest of us want it to stay. I wasnt aware the forum was to be governed by those who didnt like the forum?

    2. Actually, I dont think we need to get rid of anyone, I think we need to outlaw a few dishonest behaviors. If the mods get tired of deleting their posts, then they can ban them. I have explained these dishonest tactics clearly before, and whats funny is I havent seen those people around for a week or so, and everything here has been JUST FINE. However, if those people returned, and no longer used their dishonest tactics, this board would remain an edifying place to discuss things.

    3. What exactly is YOUR purpose here if you dont like this forum? I am asking in honesty, because I cant possibly understand your logic here. By "captian" are you waiting for God to specifically tell you to leave? It seems to me that your stance lacks real thought.....and it seems to me that your only reason for staying is to advocate closing it. If I am wrong, correct me.

    Check out the OP D.D..

Bubba, you seem to be displaying a hyperbolic mindset. It should be obvious that my "vote" doesn't dictate the future of the forum. I believe I can express my opinion without infringing on your rights or privileges.

People generally take up the conversation where it is happening. This board is an artificial construct. So it can be organized in various ways. And it isn't an "all or nothing" situation. I think this forum should be closed. That is my opinion. But I intend use the BV forum until something better comes along.

My reference to the "captain" was to represent the administrator and moderators of this board, not God. I regret that my little allegory was not clear to you.

    God Bless,

    A.F.

The Beautiful thing about the BV forum is that no one really knows anything ! And if they say that they do, then in reality they really dont! All is fair in Love and War! But should we all be at war over what translatiion to use? I beleive wars have been fought for alot less than that! Now if we use Facts then those fact may not be truth! So the Value of this Forum depends on how much we value the truth and also what we beleive in! I think it should stay open until Christ returns! He will set us straight! And I cant wait. I'm sure he will laugh at our sillyness in trying to figure it out by our meeger intellect! And on the other hand I love the Blessed Old Book! So I will keep on keeping on! Amen.
