I do find it interesting that opponents of MVs keep bringing up translational "problems" that no one thought were problems previously.

For example, 250 or so years ago, John Gill understood James 5:16 as referring to the sins of one brother against another. Matthew Henry interchangeably uses sin, injustice, crime and evil in interpreting the text.

Sin seems to me to be a much stronger word than faults.

So much for the claim that "See the modern MV's make you feel, 'oh yea I am doing fine I can do whatever and God loves me.' thats what Satan wants you to think. There have been many post's many many times how the MV's make everything OK."

Since so far I am batting 1.000, I will once again prophesy that the above statement will be pretty much ignored.

If I keep this up, maybe I can be like Erasmus and add to God's word?

greatsite.com has a English Bible History timeline page. I've read it several times.

It also has a great quote that I happen to agree with (that's probably why I think it's great!).

If this turns ugly, I'm shutting it down. The questions regarding the NIV and the KJV have been asked and answered many times.

If you will notice, many of the changes simply use different words. There are some verses that were left out, but they were also left out of the manuscripts used by the NIV. The doctrine of the NIV is still 100% compatible with the doctrine of the KJV and it is also 100% easier to read.

Without the NIV my daughters would have never read the Bible. They loved the NIV and have given their lives to the Lord each and everyone. The NIV and Holy Spirit were the path to their salvation.

Linda, I warn you, this is an attack against people not the subject. Any more will be edited.

Your conclusion would be inaccurate in a true debate because we do not judge the accuracy of a translation by OUR pre-conceived doctrine. We base our doctrine on God's Word and since the NIV is God's Word, then your conclusion has errors.

This certainly does not mean that the NIV did not do a good job at translating that specific verse, but also the KJV has its own translational faults.

As long as men can translate the Bible there will be certain translational errors; as admitted by the original KJV translators when they presented the world with the KJ1611 and then corrected it many times trying to work out the errors. They have done a great job, but there are still a few "gotchas" and always will be in a translation to another language that cannot be translated word-for-word.

    Philip,

With all due respect, attacks were made on me and my wife and reported by me and others without anything being done for almost 24 hours. And one post that was reported at 336 yesterday afternoon where TCassidy blatantly attacked my character and questioned my walk with God by calling me 'standingunfirminSelf' is still up.

TinyTim, bapmom and others beside myself spoke up about how offensive it was and nothing was done. TCassidy may have degrees in Theology, but his words and hatred toward me show nothing Christlike at all.

I'm sorry to hear that standingfirminChrist. I have not been on line since about thirty minutes ago. Did it get edited? If not can you give me a link. I'll try to find it anyway. If there is truly an attack I will be glad to edit it. Both sides should be allowed to post without personal attacks.

If someone attacks God's Word, they should be "snipped" immediately.

I am traveling, but still able to get on (for minutes at a time) on motel wireless. I will start to go thru the "he said/she said" and snip.

I will also begin a list of those who attack God's Word and see if the moderators agree that a "vacation" is needed.

Sounds like the best prescription... for both sides.

You might want to browse through some other recent threads, Dr.Bob... it's been ugly lately.

Thanks. Already snipped the "heresy" word. How long have people been around here and know that this word is not to be used???

Ps 12 as referring to the Bible is horribly wrong doctrine and proven so. No question. But it is not "heresy".

And btw, Tom Cassidy has more pull than about 99% of the posters here. As a firm supporter of the KJV yet not in the "only" sect and as President of an ifb Seminary, when he proves something to be true/false, I will back him almost every time.

There is a difference between opinion and fact. You can "believe" just about anything (look at Tom Cruise). But when you claim your belief is the ONLY way . . and cannot support it with one verse of Scripture . . we in Wyoming are very familiar with groups like the Mormons who do the same.

    Mods and Dr Bob,

Please forgive me if my saying that TCassidy has pull in here has offended you in any way, but that is certainly the way it seems when he is allowed to call people names and nothing seems to be done about it for so long. It is very frustrating when one is accused of not showing grace to another poster and snipped and another is allowed to continue without seeming retribution.

Again, I am sorry if I have offended you.

    In Christ,
    Brother Ron

standingfirminChrist, I think TCassidy has been edited because I could not find the post you mentioned. If it still exists I would be happy to review it for you. I too will follow the rules of the board and edit perssonal attacks.

You have not offended me in any way concerning Dr. Cassidy. I, like Dr. Bob, respect Dr. Cassidy very much and Dr. Cassidy is a very strong KJV and Majority Text believer. I tend to lean toward the Majority Text primarily due to the teachings of Dr. Cassidy.

Remember, too, that Dr. Cassidy does have a sense of humor and more often than not he is using humor in his comments. Please consider this before becoming upset. Like I say; however, if they are true attacks, I will edit Dr. Cassidy as fast as anyone else. Rules are rules.

Your appologies are accepted by me. Dr. Bob? Well, that's between you and him. Dr. Bob, I respect more than anyone on the board. He is a brilliant and good Christian person. I only wish that he did not have such a cross to bear; life seems unfair on this earth.

Philip is diligently looking, as am I, for the source of calling "liar", etc.

The problem with Doc Cassidy is that historically he may be "harsh", but he is most often very accurate. If he calls John Doe a liar for saying something, he will quote where John Doe lied.

I've missed the place (there are 30 active threads) where he called you a liar and was in error. Point it out and we'll all work on it.

    Dr. Bob and Philip,

I think the reason TCassidy called me a liar is because of a post on page 2 of that thread in which I said how can you say it was not there from the beginning? do you have the original manuscripts. As far as I know no one has the originals. Maybe he misunderstood my post, but it was no call whether or not to call me a liar on the following page or to slander my character by making fun of my name.

If an unsaved person was browsing these pages and ran across posts such as these, what kind of picture would that give him or her of christians?

James 4 tells us that warring amongst ourselves is not something we should do, and the previous chapter tells us that Blessings and cursings should not come from the same tongue.

Let's follow the Psalmist and try to live in unity of the Spirit... how about it?

    What a hypocritical statement!

You go through and blaspheme God's word by attacking all other versions save for the KJV, spreading false information and refusing to address it.

THAT is why you are a liar, SFiC, you are a LIAR because YOU LIED. Its that simple. You made a statement which YOU KNEW wasnt true, then you ignored the issue.

You stated you had produced evidence that the reading in question was in a manuscript, then when Doc asked you, you refused to answer.

You lied, and you know it, but your tradition of KJVO overrules any love you had for truth. Now, rather than actually addressing this issue, you will whine and complain to the mods, crying foul.

Your lies are what is foul. It has been proven. You can deny it as you wish, but you are lying in front of God and everyone here, and you cannot escape it. I have treated MV liars just the same as I have you. On another board there is a poster named gruvEdude, who claims that the KJV is not God's word, and ONLY modern versions are. Every lie he tells recieved my wrath, and the wrath of several others here who post there as well. Dont try another lie by claiming this has ANYTHING to do with KJVO. It has to do with YOU LYING.

Now, produce this evidence, or admit you have not, admit there is none, or do what you have done, which is tell another lie to cover the one before.

You really wonder why we dont trust KJVO? Its for things just like this.

PS: If anyone thinks I have slandered him, then I shall provide more evidence than you can imagine, but Doc has already done it. Rather than defend a liar cuz he is crying, why not stand for the truth?
