Hello, this will be my first post on Baptist board other than my "hello" post. I was saved last year and due to the KJVO stance I was exposed to immediately after my conversion I became KJVO myself and pushed this belief on everybody I came into contact with. This was done, of course, due to the fact that I really believed that the "1611 King James Bible" was the only "real" Bible in English and all other versions were the work of Satan. I continued to educate myself by reading virtually every piece of KJVO literature I could get my hands on. It wasn't long before I would find myself in Christian bookstores and becoming enraged when I would see someone purchase any bible other than the KJV. I also became angry when I would hear preachers on the radio preach out of MV's and no matter how good the message was, I would turn the station. This also became a standard for what books I would buy because I would not buy one without checking to make sure ALL scripture quotes were from the KJV. In recent months I began to question the stance I was taking and I started to see the division it was producing in the body of Christ. So I decided to take another look... I went out and bought a NKJV, an NIV, and an NASB and I also began to look into the history of the Bible and it's underlying texts. I decided to ask some questions on a KJVO discussion board and my posts were deleted because I was challenging what they believe. If the KJVO position was legit, I would have expected some simple explanations but my posts went not only unanswered but they were censored. I recently found this message board and I have read nearly every post on this BV board and I have done a ton of research on many of the claims I found. The conclusion I have reached is that while the KJV is a valuable, trustworthy and beautiful translation it is indeed error to condemn other bible versions. I do believe that some are better than others but I no longer think that every version produced since the KJV is the work of the devil and should be burned. I now think back to the preachers I ridiculed, the books I shunned and the arguments I engaged in with other Christians and it saddens me. I have some apologizing to do and will certainly not stop until I have taken back every ignorant word I have spoken to some dear friends and co-workers. My point is this; I appreciate this board and I hope it stays up. Yes, there has been some unnecessary attacks and it can get heated at times, but I believe that the issue should not be ignored. I for one, learned a great deal from this board and it has changed me, I believe, into a better, more loving, better learned Christian. God Bless.

Hi Shane - Paragraphs are our friend! [IMG]

Appreciate your candor in sharing your experience. Note - we are presently asking all posters to be very careful in presenting their facts positively and not casting anything negative on any version.

Posts like this one make all the headaches some of us go through in order to expose this false teaching well worth it.

Praise God for your wisdom and your testimony!

I'm glad you put aside the teachings of man and accepted the truth.

I was pulled from KJVOism by reading a 1611 KJV and asking questions. I fully understand your position.

I have never once looked back since I got out of KJVOism.

    Hey Shane,

The history of the Bible is a facsinating topic. The more I learn, the more I feel I've just begun to scratch the surface.

THE BEST I GOT FROM THIS BAPTIST BOARD

Robocop3: //The value of this forum is to discuss the various
translations & versions, having a fairly large group
of contributors. It's inevitable that arguments
are gonna break out when discussing politics, sports,
makes of motor vehicles, or matters of worship.//

Yes, you are correct. Probably the best thing i've gotten
from BB is the information about e-sword. I've developed my
    own on-line Parallel Bible featuring:

    Geneva Bible
    KJV1769 Edition with Strong's numbers;
    KJV1611 Edition.

The KJV1769 I use for a concordance because i'm more familiar
with the wording (and have memorized more scripture from it).
But when I find the verse I can use the Geneva and/or the
    KJV1611 Edition
