As a graduate of Hyles-Anderson, now taking my Master's, and a member of First Baptist Church of Hammond since January 1974, I learned from Bro. Hyles that he loved everyone, including his enemies. I have no doubt that his son-in-law, and now pastor by a 96% vote, Dr. Jack Schaap (that's pronounced "skaap") is following in his late father-in-law's footsteps. Bro. Hyles spoke kindly and warmly toward those who hated him. I'm not speaking from what someone else told me, I heard him with my own ears. He did attack heresy, and would mention a name or two who were promoting it, but he had a sincere heart. I feel sorry for those who want to take the easy route. Those who have animosity toward Bro. Hyles, the college and all we stand for are showing their immaturity and their lack of knowing that for what I Corinthians 13 stands.

I've been enrolled at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary for about four years and have found it to be challenging and exciting. The professors and advisors have bent over backwards to encourage me along the journey. I think the material is top notch.

You do show a good point. I love First Baptist Church outside of my own church that is a good church and Hyles Anderson is one of the best colleges out there. And i believe you in what you said about Dr. Hyles, I think alot of people were hurt when he passed on because he did care alot about people...I am planning on attending HAC..and youth conference this summer..just because i know that they care so much about us.

Please look me up, either before you come and especially when you get here. I'll show you around. Here's my phone number so you can call. (219) 931-9175. Sure, I could send a private e-mail with my phone number, but I have nothing to hide. You'll love Bro. Schaap. He's dy-no-mite!

I strongly disagree w/ those who say HAC is the best school. The school follows the heretical "incorruptible seed" doctrine, which is a false understanding of 1 Peter 1:23.This doctrine which Bro Hyles grasp in the latter years of his fruitful ministry is that you must be led to Christ through the KJV or you are not saved! The Word of God in Rom 10:17 to them is the KJV. The word, "word" from that verse is "rhema" meaning the message of the word. Please correct me if I am wrong. :D

I would like to add to my previous post this site.Be warned, it's sort of like a christian version of the Enguirer! However there are some "exposes" on different christian leaders including the late founder of HAC.web page

Trivia for the day: let's see if Dr. Bob can remember which school I go to. Seems to me we had this discussion on the FFF. And in case your Alzheimer's is setting in again, here is a hint: it is in OKC. By the way, it is also the best college to go to no matter what the rest of you say about your colleges. I am right, and all the rest of you are wrong.

Seriously, straighten me out. There are TWO ifb'ish Bible Schools in Oklahoma City. And they BOTH sounded like extreme KJVonly types to me.

So I'll play your silly game: Where's Waldo? er, Dano? :D

    Dr. Bob,

Heartland Baptist Bible College is the school that was founded a couple of years ago. It was a branch off of Pacific Coast BBC. It has now officially severed its ties with the BBF.

I go to Oklahoma Baptist College, which was founded in 1972 as a part of the then-Southern Baptist Windsor Hills Baptist Church. It later became Independent. Even as a SBC church, it was Fundamental. As for extreme, KJV-only, I do not know that using the KJV for English speaking people is extreme. Now, if you were to say that I must use it for the Spanish speaking or German speaking people too (like some colleges do), I would say  that that is extreme.

Straightened out, now? Because we all know that in today's society, the opposite of straight is..well, er, you know. I did not believe they stood for that in Wyoming.

    Actually Heartland is Pacific Coast...

The BBf sold it to SAm Davison's church. Best thing to happen to the school. I only know a handful of graduates. My Pastor is probably the best known Grad... Pastor Paul Chappell...

Though I know a few students in Oklahoma Baptist College...

Only the older student who visited my home church for Stephanie and Rich's Wedding wore a suit. The rest just wore a tie and dress shirt...

Thanks for the number. But i am not aloud to call long distance maybe we can chat through email for awhile. Yeah i really like Dr. Schaap although he can't really replace Dr. Hyles...he was one in a million. I am just going to hear the preaching...they have some awesome preachers out there...i heard that they have chapel everyday..that would be awesome...to hear..like Dr. Jeff Owens..and them preach. I listen to them on their website. I love that college and church outside of my own church so much. You are lucky to be a member out there. :D

I assume from these posts that the actual acadmecs at a college have very little to do with whether or not it is a good college?

Academics is very important. I for one believe however that Christian Colleges are to train the whole person, academically, spiritually, emotionally, structure, discipline, and so on.Alot of folks on this Board aren't against academics per se, but schools that tear down one's fundamental and core beliefs in the name of academics.I firmly believe that these schools should enhance their faith in the fundamental truths of the Scripture. As Hank Haanegraaf says from time to time,"the Scripture is to be the final court of arbitration". Academics, valuable as they are, are not the final court, would you not agree? :D

Well put RevKev. Like ourselves, all at different levels of maturity, the Apostle Paul also daily fought the flesh, devil, and the world. It is, indeed, often frustrating to find the right balance. Heaven will finally give us that perfection for which we seek! Even so come, Lord Jesus! [IMG]

I find nothing wrong with schools that attempt to tear down fundamental and core beliefs in the name of academics. As the home page of this website says: open and honest exchange of ideas can be beneficial to all participants.

Furthermore, I don't understand your argument that schools should enhance their faith. Schools don't have faith, people do.

Its easy to be a Christian when your beliefs aren't challenged. Don't be so afraid. Step out into the world. We can all learn something from the apostles.

Mr Ed, Of course schools don't have faith people do. My point is that school's ought to enhance the student's faith in the fundamental truths, whereas you seem to say that it's the school's position to tear it down. Are you saying it's bad for schools to help students build their foundation in the fundamentals of the faith? It appears as if you are saying that a school ought to tear down their faith in the name of challenging them. What did you have for supper this morning? What did you have for breakfast last night? i.e. I think this logic is backwards. Yes, the students ought to be challenged. So that they can answer those who think the mind is of higher authority than the written Word. Isaiah 5:20-21 "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!" NKJV Mr Ed, the principles of these two verses apply to your reasoning.

Is the point of this board discussion or is it to resort to childish name-calling? If you are the type of person who refuses to debate an issue and who will continue to refer to me as Mr. Ed, then perhaps you should crawl off into a corner where you will only be with like-minded people, where you will not be challenged to lift up the Lord to unbelievers, and where you will not have to be in "the world."

If you are that weak in your faith, that a non-fundamentalist college education would "tear down your faith," then you should stay protected. Let the rest of us, like the apostles, go into the world and be examples of the good news.

Dear Bro Ed, (if I may), I apologize for lowering myself that way, however I am not as you think afraid of a challenge. BTW, I live in a hotbed of paganism here in NYC, a very non-christian area, confronting Hindu and Muslims with the love of Christ, and not withdrawing myself in an ivory tower, studying and studying until my foundation in the innerant Word is destoyed.I say again that I strongly disagree with any school that would not challenge a student's beliefs, with the goal of making them stronger in their faith, and too in the fundamentals truths of christianity. The analogy that comes to mind(yes, I have one, even though I'm an Evangelical Fundamentalist ;) ), is a soldier going off to basic training and his Drill Sgt tells him not to believe in the Declaration Of Independence, to believe Socialism is a better way of life, that your American History book is full of errors, etc Yes, these things may have some merit, such as errors in the text books, but it's disheartening that a Professor would stand up in front of young minds and tell them their Bibles are flawed. These Professors who have their PH.D's etc, although we admire their hard work to earn them, I for one don't think they are worth a nickle if they teach the students NOT to trust their Bibles. As far as Academics are concerned, their are brilliant professors who teach the students rightfully that they can stand upon the Rock of God's Word, not that they are the sinking sand of discrediting it. Again, academics are good, but as I've said in an earlier post, our human minds cannot be the final court of arbitration, for they have and will fail us! (maybe you are saying mine is failing now ;) ). Thank you,

Ps to Bro Ed, Lest you think I have not rec'd an education, I have a TH.M, and I hope to earn an TH.D eventually to enhance and strengthen my faith in God's Word. :D I am sure you have probably earned a higher degree as well, or you are seeking to. Sincerely,
