    Broadus,

    That's an interesting question.

My mentor is Garth Rosell, who earned his Ph.D. in history from the Univ. of Minnesota.

All of Gordon-Conwell's D.Min. tracks focus only on one topic. So in this sense it is much more like a Ph.D. than an extended M.Div.

The problem I have with earning a D.Min. even at Gordon-Conwell is that there are other D.Min's out there that don't measure up. But then that's true of Ph.D. programs and degree mills.

Yes...even in PhD programs there is variation. At one point TUI offered a 100% distance learning PhD program that was 40 credit hours long (believe it was the Health Sciences program). They have since beefed it up. At the time most were 60 hours.

Paul, that is what I really like about Southerns DMin program that I am currently in, it is all focused on one topic. I have enjoyed it greatly.

    Paul,
I had looked at GCTS' DMin program before I settled on Ashland Seminary. I think GCTS may have more tracks than anyone. I did some graduate work there in the 80's. It's a terrific school!

This is an old thread and everyone has probably moved on, so I can pretty much say anything I want without the risk of being heard. :D

My college was never mentioned, so I won't mention it, either. I went 3.5 semesters until I discovered it wasn't accredited (a piece of information they refuse to share with you until you ask). When a good friend of mine discoverd in her senior year (a month or two before graduation) that she couldn't even get a teaching job in her Gorgia church school because of the lack of accreditation, I felt the school's lack of information (and lack of good teachers..."carpet" is NOT a compound word, Mrs. English 'professor") I felt betrayed.

But I left with a Master and Bachelor:

I accepted Christ as my Savior at that college and I managed to marry what turned out to be the best husband and father in the world (I may be a bit biased, but...nah!...these are facts, I'm sure). :D

So, I managed to get more out of this college than what I paid for.

I am obtaining my Bachelor of Science Degree in Biblical Counseling from 'The College of Biblical Studies' in Houston, TX. I am hoping to attend either Southern or Southwestern ...depending on what I major in.

    Hey, I'm in Houston, too.

If you had to summarize the experience at CBS, what would you say?

The majority of the professors come from DTS and Southwestern. I would say I learned a good bit by going through the bible with the profs, but so far I am about 2 months in to the Biblical Counseling and this is where I am learning the most. The course is totally showing me how the word of God is 100% able to counsel man and his mental disorders.

Honestly after I am finished with the classes I believe I could counsel just about anyone on any problem. If you want to know more then shoot me an email.
