Grace, there' no reason you can't seek at Masters degree in divinity, theology, etc, just like a male pastor could (Seeking comparable education is not akin to a woman being ordained). Education in those fields is of value to ministries of both male and female. Any Bible college that offers these programs to males should offer them to females as well.

 

For what it's worth, I've always found that it's easier to go thru classes when you've got a partner. Something to think about.

 

If a Baptist seminary is what you're looking for, I'd recommend Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University in Waco. Excellent faculty, great facility and superb placement assistance.

If a few points of theological diversity won't bother you too much, Fuller Theological Seminary in California would, IMHO, be the best choice.

 

FYI, Fuller has several campuses in the Southwestern US, plus they also offer some distance learning courses. They're not affiliated with any specific denomination. Their thrological position is simplar to mainline Evangelical Protestantism. They might not be a bad choice. www.fuller.edu

Another choice might be Azusa Pacific University. Also interdenominational, they're not as conservative as Fuller, but still in the moderate-to-conservative range, and offer a more diverse range of degree options, both in and out of ministry fields. www.apu.edu

There's also Biola University, a private interdenominational Evangelical Christian university. www.biola.edu

Another school near me, that is along the lines of biola, but a little smaller, is Hope International University (formerly Pacific Christian College). www.hiu.edu

All these great schools are in the Southern California area.

 

I would suggest that you seek out a seminary near where you would like to serve in ministry. I went to a school in the south and some of the things they dealt with are not related to where I live.

 

Don't know where you live, but Central also has an affiliated Seminary in Virginia Beach. Theres also Calvary in Landsdale PA,and Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary also offers a MABC, a couple ladies in our church have graduated with that degree.

 

Point of clarification, Detroit does not offer a MABC. They offer only an MDiv and ThM. While there are women who are enrolled and taking classes, since Detroit's sole purpose is the training of pastors, no women graduate from there.

I think the surgery she'd need to undergo in order to qualify for admission would in and of itself disqualify her for admission to that all-male school.

 

Grace, you might wish to look at a seminary founded by a branch of the German Baptists: Ashland Theological Seminary in Ohio.

Ashland is fully accredited by ATS and offers the following degrees and programs: the Master of Divinity; the Master of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling; the Master of Arts in Practical Theology in Black Church Studies, Christian Education, Church Music/Worship, Church Planting, English Bible, Evangelism/Church Growth, Homiletics, Leadership/Management, Missions, Spiritual Formation; the Master of Arts in Clinical Pastoral Counseling (which is more advanced than just Pastoral Counseling); the Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling (shorter than the M.Div.); and the academic Master of Arts degree in Old Testament, New Testament, Church Theology, Church History, and Anabaptist & Pietist Studies. Plus, for much later on, the Doctor of Ministry degree in Transformational Leadership, Formational Counseling, Spiritual Formation, Black Church Studies, and Women of Prophetic Leadership.

Although Ashland's student body is primarily white, it has black church studies programs and also serves a number of Canadian and international students.

As you can see above, there are a number of degree programs that would be excellent choices for women who do not believe they should be ordained (personally or in general), although women are fully admitted to every curriculum. In fact, if you do feel that women should not be pastors in the sense of leaders, you might find the pastoral counseling programs very attractive as an outstanding area in which women may minister. The degrees in missions and church planting, church growth, and music might also intrigue you. If you are interested in church leadership but not the pastorate, the leadership major is actually sort of an M.B.A. for churches, with training in administration and technology, among other things. The academic M.A. programs are good prereqs on the way to a Ph.D. if you would be interested in teaching at a university or Bible college in a Christian field.

The school is affordable, in the low-to-mid-range for seminaries, and has several campuses in Ohio and one in Detroit. Each person will have his or her own reasons for liking or not liking a particular school, and have individual interests in particular courses and programs. I personally am attracted to Ashland's courses in biblical studies (especially Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, the Septuagint Old Testament, the history and literature of the OT world, the social world of the OT, archaeology and the church, and the social milieu of the NT), church history (especially the history of Anabaptism, the Radical Reformation, studies in liberalism and fundamentalism, and Anabaptist theology), apologetics, and church planting.
