This was one of the many problems I had with Dr. Hyles, especially when he came to speak at Maranatha when I was there. Also, in the group of people who he met with, in which I was included as well as my fiance at the time, Dr. Hyles attacked Maranatha, Dr. Cedarholm, Dr. Arno Weniger, Jr., and stated that these students belonged in HAC, especially those of us who were in this meeting. This saddened me greatly. Part of the reason was because he stated in the sermon that day from the pulpit that he would never attack another man of God publically or privately. There were other reasons which we don't need to get into here. Let just say that Dr. Hyles, as King David and all of us are, was a sinful human being, as is Dr. Schaap. There are none of us perfect.

for those who oppose Hyles....how can you tell that all of the member of your church were saved? if you can tell that...then i will believe all your accusation about Hyles.

Nobody has said all member of people's churches were saved, dpogs. Do you know anything at all about Hyles? Have you dealt with him personally? As stated, I have as have many others. Many of us have dealt personally with Jack Schaap, also.

A friend of mine (who is currently finishing his PhD in Theology at BJU, "just" needs to write his dissertation) went there with some friends several years ago.

He said while Hyles was preaching, he through a hymnal *from the pulpit* into the audience. He was also talking about the kids running loose, throwing stuff in the auditorium before the service began.

From all the things I've heard, read, and heard from Hyles himself, it saddens me greatly that it has the name of Christ even associated with it.

I personally attend a 100%er's church.. our pastor loves Hyles and many of our people are from HAC and FBCH. We have staff that is MOSTLY from HAC.

My own opinion is that Hyles was lifted way, way above what I would say is the limit for a man to be lifted. One man who I had to work with at camp was so "hyles" that I asked him if he would say that Hyles was a fourth member of the godhead.

Legalism is truly a big issue and i think we are asking folks to live and dress like Christians before they become one. Almost makes it a prerequisite to hearing the gospel in our church.

As for soul-winning, I was not impressed with the style used.. too quick, no follow ups.

Hate to say it, but I just dont like what I have seen and heard from that group in Indiana. I wont say all is bad, but I could never put a man above myself. We are all children (if we are born again) of a God who plays no favorites.
Makes me cringe when someone comes to preach in our church and copies Hyles messages and mannerisms. Yuck. Preachers need to allow the Lord to be their source.

Schapp... never met him.. never seen him. I never liked how the family kept the pastorate in their line.

I am, yes I did. But, this type of thing doesn't need any appearence of approval. I know of one instance in my ministry where I am going to be hard put in dealing with the same kind of situation.

You can knock Hyles-Anderson College all that you want to. My 4 years there were the greatest. No, it is not perfect, But neither are a lot of the other "baptist" colleges. Fairhaven being one of them... I would not send my dog there...

I know tsk tsk.... but I did go to Fairhaven for almost a year.... I got very sick, and could not finish the year. I did not appreciate being discriminated aganist, because I was classified as being overweight. Back then you had to weigh in every week to see if you were loosing weight... no weight loss, meant disciplinary action.... demerits etc... I hope that they have changed the weight program...

Wow? Demerits for not losing weight! Now I think it is good to lose weight, but were they feeding the kids fresh fruit, vegetables, real bread? or were they feeding you the cheapest bread they could find, starchy foods, soda, sugar, etc.?

I think fundamentalists should lead the way in dietary reform, but that's not going to happen any time soon. We eat just like the world! Where's the separation from the world regarding that issue!

Sounds like only a step removed from the cultic control of all aspects of one's life (and maybe not even a step). HAC wasn't quite that bad, but I would send my daughters to HAC, and I have an M.Ed. from there.

    Blessings,
    Bill

If I were looking for a college again... HAC would be the place that I would go.... Going home for a visit in June, and taking a trip up there to see the college ( my last year there was 1990) And, we will be attending a service at First Baptist Church. Can't wait!!!! :D :D :D

    Why?

Why is everybody criticizing a fellow Christian, brother in Christ...It's wrong...No one is perfect we all make mistakes...even Pastor Schaap...so why go on about his mistakes when we have our own to be concerned about? I understand freedom of speech and opinions...but still...it's wrong to criticize other people...that's what gossip is about...as you go through life always ask the question What Would Jesus Do???? In this case I believe Jesus would trust His Father and trust that He has control over what goes on in this world...

Why don't we just let GOD handle the judgement of other people...God is in control of everything...He allows these people to be in the place they are for certain reasons...we need to stop questioning the authority God has placed before us!!!!

    Love in Christ,
    Jeanelle

God commands us to mark and separate from false teachers. To fail to do so in teh case of HAC, FBCHammond, Jack Hyles, and Jack Schaap is to disobey God, to value man more than God.

Whose authority: Jack Schaap or the Word of God?

Proverbs 27:5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.

Titus 1:6-14 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. For a bishop [i.e. a pastor] must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

Now, Jnell, can you give any Scriptural backing to support your post or is it just your own unsupported opinion? It sounds as if you have been influenced by the Scripturally unsound teaching of Mr. Schaap.

What do you trust? What some man (e.g. Mr. Schaap) says or the clear teaching of the Word of God. When a man contradicts the plain teaching of the Word, it is not just a matter of different people's opinions.
