Toronto Baptist Bible College & Seminary

I would check to see if the school is accredited. Most people who attend Christian schools do not go into full time ministry. In fact most go into secular society to work. If the person decides to attend another institution that is accredited they may not accept any of their previous degrees.

For awhile I worked in a church setting and then later decided to pursue a doctorate to teach at a university, while at the same time reaching non-Christian students with the gospel. Fortunately the university accpeted my master's degree and accepted me into the edoctoral program. Had the Christian school not been accredited I would have had to be in the master's program or maybe even less.

 

I live near Toronto and am familiar with this school. It is quite small and VERY Calvinistic. All the professors are reformed. I don't know what you are looking for but I thought you might be interested.

I actually had a class with Dr. Haykin who is the principal of TBS. The president of the seminary is the senior pastor of Jarvis Street Baptist church in Toronto. (Jarvis started the school).

Anyway, Dr. Haykin came to SBTS this summer and I was thoroughly impressed. I don't know if he reflects the educational level there or not, but if the others are close to as good as he was, I'd consider it.

 

This was one of my seminaries. If you are not prepared to work hard and seriously consider service under the Lord, Toronto Baptist Seminary is not for you.

It started out as a pastor's college and the sole purpose was to train men to be pastors.

The school was approved by the Government of Ontario to grant theological degrees and I have never had a problem applying to any school and with full credits.

Correction: the school was founded by T.T. Shields. Not sure who Jarvis was, but Jarvis Street notes the location of the church, not anything to do with the founder of the school.

 

Dr. Shields founded the school when he was expelled from the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec because of his stand against modernism which had infiltrated McMaster University, the Baptist school.

Jarvis Street is the name of his church..Jarvis St. Baptist Church. The seminary is on the church property and is a building beside the church with residences right behind the school,,an old three storey building. The school library is in the church.

When I went there, it was truly a pastor's college and tuition free. We paid only room and board, but they were very strict about who attended. In those days, we had four profesors, most of which were pastors, and I think we had about 12 students over a four year course of studies. Mondays were always free because we all had pastorates as we studied.
