Liberty University announces free tuition for the fall 05 semester for students displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The offer applies to on campus and on line studies.

    Liberty's Offer

I am glad to see a school like Liberty make this offer. There is also offers on the table (simular to this) at Dallas Theological Seminary (see GARick's post).

Other schools are helping NOBTS students in different ways:

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is offering housing assitance (etc) but no mention of free tuition for students of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary will be sending money and a work crew to help repair New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Reformed Theological Seminary is also offering a free tution packet for certain students... Click Here

It is better than sending Baptist men to RTS or DTS.

It is time we stand for being Baptist!

It is great to see RTS and DTS sending out the kind of offers they are sending out. The offers are over whelming for the students of the effected I am sure.

    El Guero,

Why do you believe Baptist have their act and Doctrine together any more so than those of the Reformed? You seem to have a GREAT opinion of such as matter? Lets hear why you think SBC schools are so much better than the schools of RTS and DTS. You seem to be very good at bringing division at such a time as this. Do you really believe so or are you caught up in the name BAPTIST? Do you hold a education and so from where?

    Brother,

This is in the Baptist Fellowship forum.

I am Baptist. Yes, I am a Christian. But, I do know why I am a Baptist.

In a day and age when so many young men do NOT KNOW what baptists believe, why would we encourage them to go somewhere that will try to change them from true Baptist theology?

    Regards

You have not answered any of my questions and you have mostly not answered the main question. Why are you Baptist? Being Baptist in America is a very broad statement. Are you more interested in being Baptist over being a Christian?

I agree with you so many people don't have a clue what they believe and what Baptist believe. I personally love being baptist and what being Baptist represents, but I am loyal to Christ. Not to the SBC, BGCT or any other Baptist conference.

I am certain that many of the marginal Baptists will be overwhelmed. And they will be tempted by the money.

But, why would you encourage some students to go to a non-Baptist school? Do you not love their being what Baptist represents?

How could I not encourage someone to attend Master's, TEDS, Westminister, RTS or Gordon-Cronwell? I will proably always push Southern or NOBTS first because I think they are great seminaries, period. Not because they are Baptist. I am called to the cause of the Cross, not the Baptist.

Ah ... the power of money over the truth of the Bible. That is why some non Baptists convert to Baptist to go to SBC seminaries.

You know, I am impressed by the number of IFB'ers (& Missionaries) that refuse to convert for money.

You have failed to answer the above questions, including convince me that you even know why you are baptist and now you make some assumption about money with my name connected.

I have been a baptist my entire Christian life, but for some reason you like to make assumptions and bring division to the house of God.

Do you get along with the Methodist, Lutherians and non-deminationalist in your near by area or do you just wait for them to convert to the baptist way? ... because it is obviouly the only way in your book!

Are you planning to attend a Baptist seminary or have you attended one?

    El_Guero,

Have you ever considered how your attitude and words may affect others? Let me give you a first-hand example. My grandparents were Baptists, my parents were Baptists, I grew up and was born-again Baptist, and now attend a Baptist seminary. I also now attend a Nondenominational Church and reading your posts strongly reaffirms that decision. How many others do you think you are driving away from the denomination with your holier than thou attitude and ignorance?

    Brother,

Your choice to move into the non-denominational church HAD nothing to do with me nor did your choice have anything to do with my being a Baptist.

Why does my being a Baptist offend you?

Maybe you should read your private messages when they are sent instead of taking this public.

I tried. And you call me ignorant ...

You should move your discussions of non Baptist theology and institutions to the PM or move it to the appropriate thread.

If you are non denominational, then how and why are you posting in a Baptist Only section of the board?

    PastorSBC1303,

Although I joined the board nearly a year ago, I have posted only 18 times. The vast majority of them were in direct response to seminary or conference questions for which I had firsthand knowledge that I felt would be helpful to my fellow Christian. If "Baptist Only" should have taken precedence then I apologize.

My real reason for lurking in the shadows this past year was to observe as I wrestle with devoting my time/talent/treasure to a ND church verses returning to my Baptist roots. My observations on this forum this past week have ended the wrestling. Henry Blackaby says, "See where God is working and join Him there." My vision is now clear and my 19th post will be my last.

I agree with GARICK. The oppressive bigotry of many SB is why "some" of us feel so unwelcome in SB circles.

If you didn't "grow up" SB, or attend SB seminaries, you are not fully accepted by many who call themselves SB.

It is a shame. TEDS, G-C, Westminister, Master's, Talbot, are all good places to learn and study.

I believe SBTS is learning how to build bridges to the broader conservative evangelical community. Comments like El Geuro's are just plain ignorant and unnecessary. The SB movemnent could learn a little humility.

BTW, many of the SB I knew in the 38,000 churches were cultural Christians and not "real" Christians. They said their prayer, but they are still on the road to hell. When witnessed to, they know they are going to heaven because they are "Baptists" even though they haven't attended church in years, have been divorced three times, have had children out of wedlock, and love to gamble at the casinos!

I won't even mention the four packs of cigaretts they smoke a day, the indecent clothes they wear, or the language they use.

==As a former United Methodist and now a Southern Baptist, I have not found that to be true at all. Sure there is alot of concern among southern baptists about the direction of some of the other denominations.

==All denominations have people in them who could learn "a little humility", not just southern baptists.

==This is true of any church or denomination in the United States. I have seen studies that say around 50% of the membership of any given church in America is lost. Southern baptists are not the only ones with this problem. Sorry.

==Because I have asthma I can't smoke, nor would I wish to anyway. However let's not just talk about smoking, ok? How about that fast food you eat? The can of coke, 7UP, Pepsi, Dr Pepper (which ever)? The cup of coffee in the morning, or tea? All of these things, like smoking, is bad for you and contain different forms of drugs (etc). What about the many church members, of various denominations, who are over-weight because of their poor diet? The sin of sloth is much ignored today and many christians are guilty of it. What you say about smokers you MUST say about the rest.

Its hard to point fingers when the truth comes out on things like this.

As for clothing, again, this is true accross the board. I see simular problems in all sorts of denominations (conservative ones!). The same is true with language.

    My point?

Simple. Don't point fingers at southern baptists when you guys (in whatever denomination you are in) are dealing with the same issues. Don't tell me your not because, if you are dealing with people, you are.

    Sorry.

    Martin,

I don't disagree with anything you said. I only singled out SB because that was El Geuro's point.

Yes, what I said is true across the board requiring humility of all of us.

BTW, I don't eat junk food or drink soda. I eat fresh fruit and vegetables, very little meat, etc.

Again, I singled out SB because of El Guero's self agrandizement and blind loyalty to "Baptist" instead of Christ.

==Thats really good. I have not had a soda since 2002. I can't stay away from meat however (though I have tried).

I am glad to see that you agree with me. I was concerned by your post [IMG]

    Paul,

But El Guero never even mentioned Southern Baptists in his posts. You single them (us) out anyway.

Funny...but I thought EG's posts sounded quite IFB!
