Pastor without undergrad

A Bible institute may be a viable option for he and others who do not have an undergraduate degree.

I believe I am correct in saying that most Bible institutes have courses of study that lead to diplomas rather than degrees.

 

There are a number of good opportunities for College level study.

I would recommend the Seminary Extension program of the SBC. I started my education with them. Where we were living at the time there was an active extension program with real professors that met at night. You can also take the classes by correspondance. When I then switched to an undergraduate program at a Bible college I received full credit for every class I took through Seminary Extension.

You don't have to be SBC to take Seminary Extension classes. The real classroom classes I took included pastors of SBC, IFB (like me), AME, UME, PCA, and non denominational churches. They are fully acredited classes that will transfer anywhere.

 

Back in the 40's and 50's, most of the Baptist pastors in Canada had only Bible College training. They then learned in the field...no degrees. A few managed to go to seminary and earned the highest degree they could earn in those days, a Bth. We all managed to get the job done back then.

I would say, if this man is already ordained to ministry, and with that many years in service, I shouldn't worry about a fancy degree.

In Canada, even men without a high school diploma can enter a university as a mature student. It is a tough go, but many have done it.

It is not so much the schooling one has had, but what he does with it.

Liberty has a self-study Bible Institute.

LHBI is very good at the institute level,which is exactly what Liberty Home Bible Institute is.They also offer about 6 elective courses in addition to the regular program.

 

Education doesn't have to be formal unless someone else requires it for some reason... but I would never sit under an "uneducated" pastor.

With the books and resources available (books, software, and internet), a person can become very well educated without going through a formal program or having someone else's endorsement.

Charles Spurgeon was self-taught and one of the greatest preacher-theologians ever.

Like others I would highly suggest Liberty Home Bible Institute. There is also the Institute of Biblical Studies. The IoBS is also connected with Liberty University and is really a general introduction to the New and Old Testaments with the video teacher Dr Ed Hindson. I don't know of any better programs apart from "offical" degree programs.

But Paul was not self taught.

First he had his formal education under Gamaliel as a Pharisee. He probably knew a lot more about the Old Testament Scriptures (all the church had at that time) than our modern day professors. He was so well educated in fact that Festus accused him of having so much ‘book learning’ that he had lost his mind (Acts 26:24 Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad.) Second, he had his exile into Arabia where he was taught by the Holy Spirit for 3 years. (Gal 1:18). And third, he was also a big supporter of education in the church. He told Timothy to study (II Tim 2:15).

Not specifically, about Paul, but doesn't the Bible say Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man? That 'wisdom' bit sounds like 'learning' to me.
