Online Evangelism...is it official enough??

Discussion in 'Evangelism, Missions & Witnessing' started by BrotherJesse, Jun 1, 2003.

?
  1. Yes, it is official enough. Jesus Christ knows when one's a Christian and believes in Him

  2. No. Evangelism must be done face 2 face in order to make sure that the conversion is official

I witnessed to a person named Kelly on a Harry Potter forum I go to. She emailed me yesterday asking if she was a Christian. See, this she was talking to, a Lutheran, said it's not official enough to be witnessed to online. She also said it went against the Holy Bible. Now I'm confused by that. Where does it say in the Bible that one cannot be witnessed to online?

    Here is the poll question:

Is Online Evangelism official enough? Or must Evangelism be done face 2 face?

It's sometimes hard to know how deep to get into a "conversation," because so many people just come for the debate, and have no intention of ever coming to agreement.

It's enough, but personal follow through is critical. Just like when Billy Graham prepared to come to our hometown last summer, our local churches were asked to send members to follow through on decisions made.

Same with online evangelism. These young believers need directed to their local church for guidance and discipling.

Evangelism is about taking the opertunities God presents to you to talk about Him. On-line or f2f, share the Word, pray, and look to God to give the increase, to work the miracle of grace in the heart. God uses all sorts of means to bring people to know Him.

Makes no difference where one witnesses. The Word of God and Holy Spirit does the work in the heart.

The Apostle Paul led a whole family to the Lord while a prisoner.

Even on line the Word of God can do a work in the heart.

Even face to face evangelism produces false professions, so that argument is invalid.

Amen to all who have posted so far.

I have found online evangelism/teaching/counselling the same as in real life. Actually even better, because I have more time to consider serious replies [IMG]

As USN2Pulpit said, there are those who come in for debate, especially on IRC channels rooms (just had one...), but after a while you get to pick how serious someone is, and respond accordingly... [IMG]

I posted about this yesterday after reading your post. I came in to work and God presented the opportunity via email. then I read this post... Before that happened I would have been sceptical. He surely knows what we need.

It's a really nice question. And I think everybody that replied is correct. It's no difference to witness on line or face to face. It's a good thing to witness on line but it's better face to face so that as what one of our brother said it's easy for you to follow up her and lead her to a church if you've already meet.

But maybe you could ask her address and you could lead her to a church near her location or try contact some christians near her address to follow up her. Any thing is possible and God will make a way to follow up her.

Brother Jesse, There's a church in North Carolina that I found while doing a search for some word that has a witnessing page and a free salvation bracelet. I called and left a message because I wanted to use their bracelet style for VBS and needed to know what size cord they used. Their minister called me and told me they've made almost 38,000 salvation bracelets and have had close to 2,000 people profess Christ off their pages. Those people are from about 100 different countries.

NOW GET THIS.... It's a tiny church and they have about 67 people every Sunday but look how the Lord has used them!

We evangalise through Television, Radio, the Print Media, Online Evangailism is more personal and very effective.

It should also be noted that for many muslims the internet is often the only way that they can be witnessed to by Christians, in that in their own countries people are not permitted to openly evangalise.

    Brother Jesse,
I dont believe its up to us to determine whether or not a conversion is real. I think even people face 2 face can look on the outside as if its real and it not be. I run an IFB msn community and i have had people make a profession of salvation through witnessing to them online and I have seen growth in them. looking at how they posted before and their testimony after they professed to get saved. Some of them i see more growth than in people i lead to the Lord here around me. God said in Matthew to go and spread the gospel but He never gave limits to how it could be done. Some of the people on the internet dont leave and be found by those soul winning on the streets. soul winning now adays is so scarce that its possible no one will even go talk to them. In 22 years on this earth I have had one person hand me a tract and it wasn't even baptist. If someone hadn't invited me to church I wouldn't be saved today because I had no desire to get into church on my own. The only ones who knocked on my door were Jehovahs Witnesses.. People who are on the internet probably are in the same boat as me. very little contact from those who have the gospel and never will have the chance to know how to be saved except for those who desire to spread the world online.. its a great tool..
