1st Peter 3:15, 16 says, "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

Tell why you believe that there is a God and why you believe in Christ. On what do you base your faith?

My quick answer (difficult for me) is: Because of the design and order of the universe and all creation.Design based on the spiral requires a Creator. Christ was then revealed to me through the preaching of the gospel and the application and drawing of the Holy Spirit. My faith is based on the Scriptures which reveal to me "things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1)
    Blessings [IMG] Resting in Him.

When I was very young, I went to church first baptist swc mo. even at about 10, I would remember standing, white knuckles grasping the back of the pew in front of me, listening to the words calling today..calling today..jesus is calling, is tenderly calling today. I walked the isle very young,, and then shortly there after, was baptised.

Struggled, for many years,, hoping my salvation was real, being a child, and knowing, knowing in my heart God was real,, I doubted,, but really shouldn`t have.

I went through my teen years,, waking up in the middle of the night, calling for my mother,, because, I knew if she was still in her room, then the rapture had not happened yet, That was the strength of my belief in God, and the truth of the doubt satan was planting in my heart.

Feeling unsaved with such doubt, I went so far as to go through the process again,, My belief in God, so strong, but was I really changed?

Well, as I grew, i grew in faith, and realised finally that God had changed me, because of the strong disgust I would aquire for such things as cursing, lieing, cheating, all that I knew that was against God, I was appalled by it, even to the point where I Was convicted as well, of judging those who I was aware of being guilty of these things.

My own sin, i recognised as sin, instantly, things I shouldn`t do, I was made aware instantly within my being, When I would do something wrong. Conviction was always strong for me.

Believing, is something I Cannot help, nothing can convince me to not believe.

God has enlightened me on occassion with things that really are impossible for others to believe.
He has given me dreams, (FOR REAL) That have guided my life. So that it even affected my future, and brought me to my wife.

Many dreams I`ve had about the rapture, but the most amazing dream was the first, and being 1981 I dreamed, i would be moving to tulsa oklahoma for work. Which, when I awoke that morning, I thought to be bazzar, but the week played out, and by the end of the week, I was offered a job, that was in Tulsa ok.

for several years, my dreams would happen, within months of something terminal happining to the job I was working at, I always just woke up saying, another really odd dream. And, withing 6 months. no way around it, sure enough the job would end, and i would know instantly where to go for my next.

So for me, it isn`t really why I believe,
But, I have no choice, but to believe.

I will share the last dream of unbelievable scope with you all. This dream was about 8 years ago. But, in a town called Grove Oklahoma I Was standing on the north end of the hospital atop a set of stairs facing the east. As I looked into the east, I saw an orange ball like the sun. The land in front of me was clear of buildings, and this bright ball was descending from the sky.
I watched, and as the bright appearance drew near, It began to take the shape of a man in a white robe. Jesus Christ, appeared in a size that would appear as someone holding a globe.

Now, when I awoke from the dream,, and that day, traveling through town, I Noticed there were no stairs on the end of the hospital,, and looking toward the east, the view seemed to be blocked with the structure of a gas station.

Oddly enough, I Made a mental note that to this day, is with me always. So about 4 to 5 years ago some construction begin and when it was done, on the north end of the hospital, was the stairs exactly like the ones in the dream. Now just recently I drove past, and the gas station is gone, making the field of view, very simular to that dream,

I have no intention of going to stand upon those stairs, but the stage is set, and,, I have no choice but to believe!

    Thanks for asking,
    God bless, In Christ
    David H

There are really three questions here:

    1. Why you believe there is a God;
    2. Why you believe in Christ;
    3. On what your faith is based.

    Well, one answer.

God quickened my dead, unmoving Spirit, and then gave me the gift of faith in the finished work of Christ and His shed blood.

Otherwise, the fact of a creator will stare me in the face, and I won't believe it, the fact that I need a Savior will stare me in the face, and I won't want a Savior, I can read all the Bible in its simplest, most modern translation in English or in my language, and I won't understand it.

On a cool night in Febuary in augusta ,Georgia I lay down and went to sleep an athiest.I don't want to tell you how bad I was but picking on Christians who tried to witness to me gave me great pleasure.I sent many away in tears.About the only sin I have'nt committed is murder and I had done that in my heart many times.By now you get the picture.
Well during my sleep God came to me in a dream,I saw Christ Jesus and heard the words, "This is my Son you can beleive Him", just as clear as a bell.It woke me up straight away.I was so rotten I am convinced to this day that unless I got on my knees right then and repented of my sin and asked Jesus to be my Lord and Savior that this was my last call from God. I had to beleive. I was scared spitless. It took 3 days before I told anybody what had happened to me.It took me almost another month before I told anybody else.

Since that time I have done much Bible study.I have studied apologetics and creation science also.I have done this so I can provide an adequate defense of the faith. A good starting place for defending your faith would be Josh McDowell's, Evidence That Demmands a Verdict.

Very early in my life my brother, sister and myself would go out to the barn and I would stand on a wooden box and we would talk about what we should do. For a few days we would imitate the hell fire brimstone preachers we had heard on TV. we would laugh and poke fun and their charades.

But later my mother and I began to have some discussions about what I wanted to do. Deep down I enjoyed spiritual things. I felt as though I were different than most other people. I seemed to see things others did not and though about things others did not. I seemed to have a sense that it seemed others did not.

Finally I began to really think about where I was headed and what my life would amount to.

At one point in time I was considering being a RCC priest. But I knew that most people got married. So I said, "No" to that at the moment.

Finally I made the decision that I enjoyed science and wanted to either teach or be a scientist. Toward the end of high school I decided to attend college and major in physics. While studying physics God began to get ahold of me. I remember one day after class talking with a friend of mine about how there were so many constants. I said to him, "Doesn't that tell you something?" He said, "What?" I told him that it points to God. I was not even a believer at saw that much. Finally I moved into the dorms and I had a Catholic roommate that was a Christian and shared Christ with me. I did not respond to him primarily because I had come out of Catholicism and wanted nothing to do with it. The next quarter ne moved out and I didn't have a roommate. After a few weeks a student knocked on my door. I opened the door and saw one of the students in my math class along with another student I didn't know. I let them in and it was that night I received Christ. For the next 1-1/2 years the person who knocked on my door followed me up. At first we met each morning in my office to read and discuss what we had read in the Bible. Eventually he took me out showing me how he shared with others. Eventually he had me share how I came to Christ. We prayed together. We met for Bible study. We shared together. Often we ate together. That was the start of my walk with God. That was 32 years ago this month.

Every person on that same team that he led is still living for Christ and helping others grow to this day. Among them are a high school teacher, contractor, missionary, doctor, counselor, pastor, and camp leader and founder.

This thread is awesome! [IMG] I love the testimonies and will throw mine in here. When I was five or six years old, I remember climbing a pecan tree and singing songs to God. The interesting part was that I had never been to church and these songs were made up on the spot. God has drawn me to him for years until I broke at an altar at church camp at 13. God planted scripture within my heart that keeps me standing strong to this day.
