Squire, I think he's asking if there's another Bulletin Board out here somewhere that talks about this subject exclusively. Not sure...maybe I'll try to find one on my search engine.

It would be interesting to get another bus thread going here. I think I remember how the last one went.

 

ChurchBusDriver, how big is your church's bus rout?

 

A Bus Ministry seems to be falling into my lap. For the past several years we have taken two of Jeanne's cousins to church with us. It's gotten difficult recently because we are down to one car and its a Neon. That means we are taking 6 people to church in a Neon. Not exactly the safest way to do it.

Now last week a couple of the neighbor kids wanted to go, and their father offered to let us use his car in addition to ours. Very nice of him I thought. He said "I've got insurance on it and you are taking my kids so go ahead." One of the kids got sick that Sunday, but they are planning on going tomorrow.

Then on Wed. night three other neighborhood kids wanted to go with us, we could only take two in the Neon so one couldn't go.

Our church has a bus and a large van. The van is rarely used, so one of the men is going to bring it to our house to pick everyone up. If all of the kids who have said they want to go show up we should be taking 6 neighborhood kids, our family of four, and Jeanne's two cousins.

Bus ministry huh?
I have sort of a comical tale. Our church purchased a bus from another church. One minor problem, out pastor has the only CDL in the church. In the interest of safety and legal issues, I asked the State Patrol to conduct a safety check on it. I know this because I was the Deacon of vehicles at another church and there are laws pertaining to that issue.

The State Patrol Investigator came to the church to do the check, I met him there and showed him where the bus was parked.

He said"ok move the bus over to a another area" , I said "I can't, I don't have a CDL". He gave me a curious look and asked"who does?".

I told him the pastor does. The inspector chuckled and said ok, is he here?

I had forgot that the pastor had the only CDL and did'nt ask him to be around when the inspector came. Just then the pastor walks out to the parking lot and asked if he should move the bus.

Could that have been devine intervention? Albeit the inspector could have moved it.

 

I was saved through the bus ministry at Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church in Asheville, NC in 1975. The Lord graciously allowed me to serve Him in the bus ministry at First Baptist Church Daytona Beach from 1988 to 1993, until I had to move to Jackson, MS. I had great times of serving the Lord and ministered to many fantastic children. I miss the bus ministry, but I guess its heyday has come and gone.

Some of the most gratifying times in my life were when my wife and I would take 5 or 6 kids to church every week. BTW, we would make meaningful contacts in the local laundrymat. I was on staff in the late 70's with a church that had a fleet of 15 school buses and bussed 400-500 every Sunday. Seems because of economics and change of purpose that there are few large bus ministries left or am I mistaken?

Im not sure what you would consider large, but there are still lots out there who run at least one bus, and I know of alot of who run several. We have 8 that go out every Saturday. Due to space issues we run our bus route program on Saturday.

ChurchBusDriver, I know of a missionary whose whole ministry is to church's bus route ministries. He helps with mechanical issues, teaching bus workers, helping them in legal areas, all sorts of things. I can give you some of his info, if you'd like. Maybe he would be a good resource for you.
