How do you feel about the First Baptist Church of Hammond and the leaders of it?

Most of the world knows nothing about them and doesn't care.

Most of what I have heard and read is negative.

In experiences with two spin off churches, I have not been impressed. Under Hyles they promoted a form of easy believism that has probably led to false professions by thousands. They promote KJVOnlyism often in the extreme. The moral issues surrounding Hyles, his son, various accusations against bus captains in associated churches, etc. are just more reason to keep a good distance.

I have two friends who were so badly hurt by the teachings of Jack Hyles that they will never go to a Baptist church again.

This is a classic example of why over 20000 protestant denominations exist today and the most of them directly contradict each other in doctrines and beliefs. They all cannot be correct however thet all can be wrong.

Don't know anything about it, other than Jack Hyles used to preach there. How do you feel about Calvary Baptist Church of Glasgow Montana?

    In HIS service;

I see this so often but it still makes me laugh. I don't know who started this lie, but it is patently untrue. According to "Handbook of Denomiations" by Frank Mead and Samuel Hill there are 234 denominations including 6 "Catholic Churches".

I only believe that the KJV is the infallible Word of God. How do you feel about that?

I "feel" we should probably take any extended conversations we might have on that topic to the versions forum.

Yes, but denominationalism is a particularly American phenomenon and we tend to export those denominations which began here. All of the 234 denominations listed can be found abroad, and, likewise, the denominations that started abroad can all be found in the US.
I think that is probably exactly what the RCC (the source of that number) did. [IMG]

    Not quite...
Few can beat Dutch hypercalvinism when it comes to splitting of new denoms.
The following is a reasonably complete list from 1961.
Remember that Calvinism in my country started out as the state church and that all denoms listed are the products of infighting. Also remember that my country has a tiny population compared to the USA.
    De Nederlands Hervormde Kerk
    De Gereformeerde Kerken in Nederland
De Christelijk Gereformeerde Kerken in Nederland
    De Christelijke Gereformeerde Gemeenten
    De Kruisgemeenten
De Gereformeerde Gemeenten in Nederland en Noord-Amerika
    De Gereformeerde Gemeenten in Nederland
    Oud-Gereformeerde Gemeenten in Nederland
    Oud-Gereformeerde Gemeenten
    De Remonstrantse Broederschap
    De Gereformeerd Vrijgemaakte Kerk
De Nederlandse Hervormde Zendingsgemeente te Doetinchem
De Nederduits Hervormde Beweging de Biltsche Kapel
De Vrije Hervormde Gemeente te Brummen
De Vrije Hervormde Gemeente te Kampen
De Vrije Evangelische Gereformeerde Gemeente tot verbreiding der Waarheide te Alkmaar
De Vrije Gerformeerde Kerk van Wolvega
De Nederduits Gereformeerde Gemeente te Oosterland
De Vrije Oud-Gereformeerde Gemeente te Oldebroek
De Vrije Oud-Gereformeerde Gemeente te Kampen
    20 different denominations.

Preacher Boy, might I ask what your question has to do with Fundamentalism? The OP and those mentioned have nothing to do with fundamentalism. They might have something to do with hyperfundamentalism or extrabiblical fundamentalism...but that would be the extent of it.

But are they all separate denominations? When I look in my wallet I have many denominations of bills. $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills. But, all the $10 dollar bills are not identical. Some have different signatures and some have a completely new design, but all are still $10 bills. They are of the same denomination regardless of the differences between them.

Most of the churches you listed consider themselves to be Dutch Reformed (if I read it correctly, Dutch is not my best language! :D ). Just as there may be minor differences between Baptist churches who identify as "Independent" they are all still of the same "denomination" even though they may fellowship with a different group or center around a different school. From the organisational perspective yes. All 20 were fully independant.
From a theological perspective all but one are Calvinist covering the whole spectrum of Calvinist theology, most of them follow very strict and complex interpretations. It is pretty much impossible for outsiders to understand their theological differences.

"Most of the churches you listed consider themselves to be Dutch Reformed"
    "
It's only a list covering all churches that had been produced by the splintering of the Dutch Reformed State church by 1961.
It certainly doesn't cover all branches of Christianity overhere.

Care to elaborate? </font>[/QUOTE]They were members of a church pastored by a Hyles graduate. Under Jack Hyles teachings he ran the church like a dictatorship. No one was to make any decisions without coming to him first. Taking a vacation was labelled as "backsliding", etc. They both finally left because they could not take it anymore. As I mentioned, they will never go back to another Baptist church having been taught that Jack Hyles was the only true Baptist leader.

Hyles was not the only true Baptist leader and definitely not the most Baptist. My church is a Hyles church. My pastor..is his own man, no other pastor is going to reach into our church... but.. there are many pastors who would gladly listen to what Hyles had to say and heed his advice. It was almost like "sattelite" churches..the ones I have visited. I dont know Hyles personally, never met him and I dont want to criticize him and he is not here to defend himself.
I try to let those who have had real experience with him to do the talking.. both good and bad.
