It looks like my next duty assignment will be in San Antonio, TX. Nothing is ever 100% official and I basically was diverted from NJ to Hawaii, but as of now it looks like TX.

I would appreciate anyone's input about the city, schools, and most important churches (IFB). The base is Randolph AFB, near Universal City I believe.

    Aloha and God Bless.

    John

    AF Guy,

I was through SA last week...came in on I-37 and left on I-35. Didn't see many Baptists from the highway. :D I was bringing my mom home from being a Winter Texan so I was just passing through. Looks like a great city, though. [IMG]

I have finally arrived in San Antonio after leaving Hawaii. God has been so good to us in providing a nice house to live in (1st time buyer).

We have already visited 6 IFB churches and of course none of them are like our previously in Hawaii where we loved and grew so much Spiritually.

If anyone knows of any solid IFBs in San Antonio area, please give me a shout.

I guess I need to change my screen name.

    Thanks again.

Here are a couple of churches you might want to take a look at.
Fellowship I.B.C. - Pastor Mike Kent (I personally know this man. He's a good man. The church is small, less than 20.
Faith Baptist Tabernacle - Pastor Mike Martin (This is another good church, very family oriented. Good folks)
Helotes I.B.C. - Pastor Don Stone (Good man, good church, if you like to eat they have a church dinner every wed. before services. This is located in Helotes (a suburb of San Antonio).
Liberty B.C. - Pastor Dwayne Nichols. I've only heard him preach once. I don't know much about the church.
There are others in town, but I don't know anything about them. I hope this helps.

Shoot. I am still in Hawaii and I just left San Antonio (just a brief TAD there).

I wasnt there long enough to enjoy a Sunday service, but I liked the area just fine. The people are friendly and the area is real pretty. I think you will be quite happy there. I was thinking of trying to nudge some orders there, but was told no way already.

I did visit the Alamo, and like the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, one has to wonder what is the compulsion to visit a place where horrible tragedy took place? The missions are quite something though. Enjoy the texmex!

San Antonio is a wonderful city.
    The river walk is beautiful.
    The history is astounding.

The public transportation is below par, especially near the air bases.

It has a fairly new Six Flags amusement park there. Sea World is there. Just north of town near News Braunfels is a natural game preserve and natural bridge caverns. About 45 minutes north is an outlet shopping center. Further north is Austin.

    Crime is high.
    Drug use is high.

There are numerous wonderful Baptist Churches, and Max Lucado's church is there. (He is - in theory - Church of Christ - though most of his teachings regarding baptism and salvation are more Baptist than COC lately.)

It has a high hispanic population, ergo, it has a high Catholic population.

I think you can easily learn to love the city.

Look up these churches, I know them personally.

Grace Baptist Temple - Dennis Isbell, pastor
Tally Rd. Baptist Church - Larry Bruce, pastor

    Both are good churches.
