What do you all think of door-to-door soul-winning? How many of youn practice it? I think it's fine. Just wondering.

I don't practice it because I respect my neighbor's right to privacy and I expect the same from my neighbor. I have plenty of opportunities to share the gospel without going door to door bothering people.

Although I have gone "door to door" with success----I have better results from personal relationship witnessing.

I have seen success in both methods, but more so from developing a personal relationship and witnessing.

There is a place for "door-to-door" evangelism. We just need to be careful to do it right. (For the reasons mentioned by CraigBTS above)

I do it with a group from my church. We generally go in pairs, a man and a woman, in my case, my wife. This tends to make people a little more open. We're always polite, even when told to go play in the traffic. We never promote our church nor our Baptist faith, but will certainly proclaim both if asked. The only literature we carry are Bibles. We dress neatly, but not formally. Unfortunately, most people link us in their minds to the Jehovah False Witlesses and/or the Mor(m)ons & we get most cool, polite receptions and "No, thank you"s, but if ONE PERSON os led to the Lord by our efforts it will have been worth it.

However, the MAIN thing is to be ready at all times to be a witness for Christ. We never know where or when the Holy Spirit will give us an opportunity.

I HATE door-to-door. I associate it with Mormons and JW's and, I think, I am not alone here. I don't want to be associated with a cult, I resent their intrusions into my day enormously (although I do try to make time for them to discuss things if it is possible) and I would never do that to someone else.

My witness is in my life. I take every opportunity possible to do what I can for those around me.

The first thing people think is your a JW. I don't want anyone to ever think I am a JW. Plus, I hate to have anyone going door to door stop at my door. And it rarely gets the results it might have once done. Poeple today are ina fast paced life, and don't tend to relationships like they used to. People are hungry for these relationships. You'd have much more success attrating people to Christ by building relationships, building a relationship shows you care about them, personally. Knocking on thier door shows you don't mind annoying them invading their private area. Plus all they see of you is at the door. Poeple want to know this christian thing works in your life, they want to see your life, they can not do that at the front door.

A strong statement Helen, but would you say that those who do go door-to-door are in error for doing so? (Especially if they're very polite in their approach.)

If a group desires to go door-to-door, they must always remember to be extremely polite.

    </font>
    • If the sign says "no solicitors," they probably mean you, too.</font>
    • Don't visit during the dinner hour.</font>
    • Don't visit after 8...they're trying to get their kids into bed for school.</font>
    • Don't give an hour-long sermon - if they're actually interested, you'll know. If they're not, wish them well and leave quickly.</font>
Unless specifically invited, I don't spend any more than a couple of minutes (at the most) at someone's door. I might tell them about our church (maybe leave church info and be on my way). A door-to-door visit can be made without seeming intrusive. For instance, a new home-owner may appreciate being welcomed to the neighborhood.

Now, like I said, developing a relationship with a person over time seems to be a better method, but each method has its place.

Door to door still works. Look at the succeses The Faith program has had. Many times that shows someone that a church really cares about them. I can show you it works. Look at the JW, they go and they convert.

I also believe you building relationships are important. I have seen people com to know Christ thru relationship building. However, I have seen people won to Christ thru a knock on the door.

During Vbs, we had 2 kids accept Christ as a result of a caring church member knocking on a door.

I think we have enough evangelizing to do within our jobs, churches, friends, family and strangers we come into contact on a daily business. I think it defeats the purpose to go door to door and neglect those under your very nose.

It seems to me that God has put us in neighborhoods so that we might be neighbors. We live next door to an old 84 year old man who lost his wife 2.5 years ago. He's really lonely. We spend time with him. He a 'confused' Christian and although he is a believer, often asks the most elementary questions. Barry and he spend much time together. Yesterday he cut his foot badly and where did he come 'for a bandaid'? Here.

On the other side of us is a retired couple where he is ashamed of she and he also rides around on a Harley-Davidson a lot. Second childhood? We have gotten to be friends with them both and have noticed that he seems a little nicer to her now.

Further down a woman who stopped to compliment what we are doing with the yard. We talked a bit and she went to Barry's website to see what he did and came back with questions.

Then there are the construction guys. We are starting a Bible study for a few of them who are really interested. Two truckers, a cement guy, and a carpenter. Good start, eh?

I have found that if you pay attention to the neighbors the Lord has put around you, you very well might not have time to look like a JW or Mormon going door to door to strangers. Sorry to talk it down so, but I really hate it and I know an awful lot of others who do, too.

Is it wrong? That's not mine to say. But please don't come to my door! If you want to come for a pot luck dinner, great. Let's be neighbors and friends first. Then maybe you will trust what we have to say and we will know what sort of things you want to know about and if we can help at all!

I do not like door to door folks at all. It is not polite and in many ways is like trying to stuff your beliefs down other peoples throats. If they want to hear it, they know they can go to a church.

You are doing a wonderful job. What I am saying is door to door works also. I don't care if I look like a Jw or a mormon. I am a messenger of the King.

Lat church I was at 17 youth came to know Christ while I was there. I went to them and not them to me.

Why do Independent, Fundamental Christians who go door-to-door always wear gleaming, long-sleeved white shirts, with ties, even on 90 degree days? People see them coming and hide, thinking they are JWs or Mormons, who do the same thing.

Also, why do many men, especially Baptists, go out and buy a white shirt when they get saved??? Go to a Baptist church and all the ones who are "living for God" are wearing those long-sleeved white shirts! It's like they think those shirts make them more holy or something.

And while we are on the topic of apparel, how did long blue jean skirts get to be so popular amongst Baptists ladies?? My young kids always point out Baptists ladies in the grocery store. When I ask them how they know, they mention the long blue jean skirt. Come on, I am just pointing out a glaring trend.

Post edited to remove personal names/reference to another member or family member. IMHO, the Children of God have no need to be reproached because of their choice of clothing. That being said, the clothing being discussed is imo very fashionable and modest. There are some who do not attempt any form of modesty.

Because we were told that the more denim (blue jean) that we wore the younger we look. This is a serious answer. Also I will be with AVL's wife wearing as much denim as I can because I want to look young and beautiful and Christian and Baptist.

This thread appears to me to be baiting.

I am posting a link to the BB rules regarding posting threads.

I am also going to post the particular guideline relating to baiting.

    3. Show grace to the other posters. When someone disagrees with you, discuss it; but be slow to offend, and eager to get into the Word and find the answers. Remember, when discussing passionate issues, it is easy to go too far and offend. Further, if we are "earnestly contending for the faith" it would be unrealistic not to expect at times to be misunderstood or even ridiculed. But please note that your words can sometimes be harsh if used in the wrong way. The anger of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

We encourage personal problems with other members be resolved privately via email or personal messaging.
    5. No trolling. Trolling consists of provoking large volumes of responses by posting absurdities, deliberately offensive insults, etc.

It's fine for you and for others, but I don't practice it. I prefer to make phone calls and invite folks to my church.

Why can't you do both? </font>[/QUOTE]You can, but it's best to start in "Jerusalem" then move to Judea, Samaria, and then to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). Door to door falls somewhere between Judea and Samaria :D ?

I think it's symbolism. Jerusalem is "home" (family, close friends), Judea is where Jerusalem is located (I would think this is extended family, friends, work, strangers you come into contace with, etc.). Samaria is immediately north of Judea (this is where I think door to door is, but not sure). All the world is mission work.
