    Dear Friends,

Please take a minute to read the following. I need your help with something.

Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia and it has nearly 1 million articles. There is an entry for me and it tells about my ministry and such. However, some people who do not like me or Christianity are opposing it and asking to have it deleted!

Please take a minute to post on Wikipedia and give your input. It could help a lot when the admins make their decision about my entry. Here are the links:

    Jason Gastrich: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Gastrich

Conversation about deletion (where you can post): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Art.../Jason_Gastrich

In order to post, go to the second link above and click "Edit this page." Just follow the same posting format as the others and let me know if you need any help. Incidentally, if you create an account (which is free and takes only seconds), your opinion will be weighed more heavily.

Thanks for your input and thanks for helping me shine Christ's light into the world.

    Sincerely,
    Jason Gastrich

P.S. As you can imagine, the real reason why the atheists want this entry deleted is because it speaks about Jesus Christ. It has links to Christianity, Christian web sites, etc. The person who started this witch hunt has already been exposed, so let's pray that the admins read and accept all of your comments and rule in our favor. Let's also pray that the unbelievers get saved.

In my opinion the content of the page would categorize it as a "vanity page," which aren't allowed in Wikipedia. You could enter it as a User page, which would be allowed under Wikipedia policy.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Here are some better instructions on how to use their system.

    1. Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jason_Gastrich&action=edit
    2. Click "Creat account" in upper right corner
    3. Create a username and password
    4. Click return to "Deletion Discussion" (or just go to the link above, again)
    5. Click "Edit this page" (it's on the upper middle)
    6. Enter your comments/input/vote

By the way, I posted a link to my internet broadcast in an atheist forum and now we have a lot of posts from them saying the entry should be deleted. Maybe I should have known better, but I'm sure we can garner some Christian support and input from BB. Thanks in advance.

    God bless,
    Jason Gastrich

I think it should be allowed, but I don't think you should be involved in the editing process. Creating your own article puts you in the unfortunate position of self-promotion.

I also think you should be prepared to have the unbiased truth come out in your article. It will be edited by supporters and opponents alike. Any dirt that people have on you will be published.

I think the question you should ask yourself is, "Am I making this article to promote anything?". If your answer is yes, stick with a privately owned web site. If anyone besides yourself wants an article about you, let them create it, fight it, and edit it.

That's just my opinion. Good luck on your ministry and God Bless.

    Dear Brother Ed,
With a name like Wikipedia, you are going to have to forget that computer stuff, I imagine... :D ;)

Jason, I don't mean to be disrpectful, but your entry is roughly the size of John Clarke's and much longer than the one paragraph given to John R. Rice.

More Christians should have entries on Wikipedia and I have been helping create them, lately. Anyone here can do the same. Furthermore, the existing entries (possibly Rice's, for instance) should be expanded.

I knew going in that my opponents could use my entry for evil. That's simply the risk you take when you're a public figure and have an entry on a (somewhat) unmoderated system. I still pray that God will be glorified, though.

If that were my entry, I would do everything possible to delete. It is embarrassing both to the person it is about and more importantly to the cause of Christ.

Please try to get it removed.

It's in God's hands, so don't worry Larry.

What do you perceive as embarrassing?

    Larry,

If you read the most current version of my entry, then I see what you mean. I hadn't read it until after I posted here. It was just uploaded.

Yes, I obviously disagree with it and find it distasteful. It is of no surprise that if my entry stays, there will be a constant battle about the neutrality and accuracy of statements made. I may even have to do what Matt Slick of CARM did with his entry and provide a rebuttal on my web site.

    God bless,
    Jason

I agree with Petrel. I think the page falls into the catagory of user page. At least you should consider moving it there if your critics win the vote.

The article has now apparently been deleted, per votes for deletion on the articles for deletion discussion. I couldn't find the article itself via the above link. I have been working on Wikipedia articles for about 3 years now, and it is usually not a matter of persecution that folks want to delete personal pages created by Wikipedia users disguised as encyclopedia articles. You should be able to put whatever material you would like on your user page with no complaints.
