One reason that I have always chosen the churches that I have attended is that none of them endorsed either Calvinism or Arminianism. They're both right and they're both wrong in some areas.

If there is one thing that you can point to that makes you agree with one or the other, what is it? Do you embrace the entire theology or just the one (or two or three) points?

I don't want this to be a war of "You're wrong because...!" I just want to know why some Baptists choose one over the other.

I choose neither because some Calvinists (although I was viewed myself as one) embrace absolute predestination of all things.

I do not choose Arminianism because they embrace an ability to fall away, or to reject the Grace of God in salvation.

I beleive Scripture teaches God has a redeemed people in Christ; that further that people are capable even after regeneration of doing despite to the Spirit of Grace, therefore, God does not or rather did not absolutely predestinate obedience, yet in regeneration He operates independently of man's choice and quickens the dead sinner.

Therefore, if the Son hath made you free, you shall be free indeed.

I believe man has no free will prior to regeneration, but after regeneration man can operate from a will that is freed from the sin nature, yet bound by the disobedient nature of the flesh and subject to disobedience (sin) because of it; likewise, he/she is also enabled to act in obedience from a willing heart through Grace (Ps. 110:3; Rom. 1:5).

Calvinism...Predestination, complete predestination for all, in Hyper-Calvinism....also, "once saved, always saved". Named after John Calvin

Arminianism...Complete free will, in Hyper-Arminianism, no control whatsoever by God...also, a person can lose his/her salvation. Named after Jacob Harmenszoon (or Jakob Hermann), a Dutch theologian (1560-1609) whose name was Latinized to Jacobus Arminius.

Personally I lean a little toward Arminianism, but certainly not to the extreme view. I believe both Cism & Aism have their valid points.

I'm neither and refuse to be labeled as either. I simply try to believe what the Bible says and not worry about men's categories and interpretations.

How's that for being a snot? [IMG]

I'm with Helen. I don't care to be in either group, I'll just stand with God's Word. I agree with a few points from both camps just like Jesus Christ. ;)

I am calvinistic because I believe it generally does the best job of explaining man's will and God's sovereignty in salvation as revealed in scripture. I cannot find a way to avoid assigning salvation to man's goodness (to one degree or another) under the non-calvinist systems.

I disagree with various arguments presented by calvinists and any arguments presented by arminians. I reject hyper-calvinism (not only that God predestines the saved but actively predestines the lost to hell as well).

Helen, I agree with you. I am neither, just as I believe Paul was neither.

However, I asked this question to try to understand those who do take a stand and why.

    Snots aside ( [IMG] ) I am proudly a 6-point biblicist.

The first point was always "understood" and agreed to, but now it must be spelled out since so many have elevated man and his will above God.

    1. God is sovereign; man isn't
    2. Man is fallen, completely unable to do any good in God's eyes and damned to hell
    3. God the Father selects certain damned-to-hell individuals to be the recipients of His unmerited grace
    4. God the Son actually atones for those selected ones' sins, allowing them to be justified
    5. God the Spirit works, woos, and regenerates the hearts of those selected ones so that they will repent, believe the Gospel and call on Christ
    6. The triune Godhead keeps for all eternity those selected ones who received God's grace.

I agree with Dr. Bob. His view is the Biblical view as presented in the totality of Scripture.

As "JUDGE", God only "ADMINSTER" the law, as the law requires.

All are guilty, but Jesus died for "ALL", (sin whole world), so "WHOSOEVER WILL"...MIGHT BE... free from the law of "death for sin".

First and foremost, God obeys his law, for a "JUDGE" to offer a "PARDON" to some, but not all, then condemning those from which it was with held, is an "INJUSTICE" no "LEGAL" precedings would sanction.

We're "JUDGED" by the law, (Unbelief) or absents of the law, (Belief) God only administer the law as the law requires, anything less is an "INJUSTICE", according to the law.

Ac 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; (Law or no law, Belief/unbelief)

And the "JUDGE" will enforce the law, even "AGAINST" his "personal feelings" that "none should perish", that's "JUSTICE", according to law.

I suppose "ignorance of the law" is why God is accused of operating a "kangaroo Court".

Well, I said before that I agreed with some points from both camps, but now I guess I'm just a 4-point Bobist. [IMG]
