Aaron, all religions must of necessity reject Christ and call Him all those things you claim for Judaism.

The following statement of Christ invalidates any and all religions including Judaism:

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Yet, there is no teaching that says any other religion other than Judaism can exist in unbelief and still be heirs of God's promises.

    Where?

The nation of Israel perhaps but only saved Israel.

"No man comes to the Father but by me" means exactly what Jesus said, be it Jew or gentile of any religion. No one, not one.

I might agree with you had you said "false religion" is the greatest enemy, even a "Christian" religion. In fact the Church of Rome and her blood thirsty past qualifies (or at least did) as an enemy of our kind of Christianity.

Talmudic Judaism has never burned Christians at the stake or mass murdered Christians just because they were Christians. Other "Christians" do that.

There have been a few problems:

    Isaiah 52
5 Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD, that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, saith the LORD; and my name continually every day [is] blasphemed.

    Romans 2
23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?
24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

Is God done with the Jewish people? Here is what Paul had to say:

    Romans 11
1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, [of] the tribe of Benjamin.
2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to [the image of] Baal.
5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Here is a point of interest that needs to be reviewed:

11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but [rather] through their fall salvation [is come] unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

The church is supposed to provoke the Jews to jealousy. Mostly, the church has just "provoked" them, as history has illustrated.

    And finally:

18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
19Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
21 For if God spared not the natural branches, [take heed] lest he also spare not thee.

The greatest enemy of the christian faith is christianity. It is devouring itself by dumbing down the Gospel and the marketing of "new and improved" ways to "find God". Ecumenicism is the new "great commission" ushering in unity at all costs and rolling out the red carpet for the anti-m.

I voted for hyperfundamentalism, people like "Dr." Phil Kidd (and I use the term doctor very loosely...), and many of his followers. they scare me, I was saved in a IFB Church, and that wasn't the Fundamentalism I remember as a Child. at least it wasn't in the Church I was saved in.

Peter Ruckman is another danger, teaches very false doctrine, as was Jack Hyles with his easy believe'ism...

    I could go on...

hey! At least I didn't say the SBC! [IMG] ;) [IMG] (Dr. Bob PUT AWAY THAT 357. Magnum Pistol! I was only kidding! [IMG]

Aaron: Yet, there is no teaching that says any other religion other than Judaism can exist in unbelief and still be heirs of God's promises.

    HankD: Where?

In the teaching of Premillennial Dispensationalism. Don't you often hear it said that America is blessed because it supports Israel?

The nation of Israel perhaps but only saved Israel.

That distinction is not often observed. Is it saved Israel that was formed in 1948?

Talmudic Judaism has never burned Christians at the stake or mass murdered Christians just because they were Christians.

Only because Talmudic Judaism didn't exist until a couple of centuries A.D. They were scattered and bereft of a temple and homeland. How could they stone Christians? But their fathers savagely persecuted the church. There's no reason to expect it won't happen again.

Anyway, the question was about the greatest enemy of faith. (That's how I read it, anyway.) If God's favor is by works or lineage, then it isn't by faith. And the fact that millions of Christians believe that the Jews are beneficiaries of God's grace by reason of their lineage is an alarming sign that millions of Christians don't understand the Christian faith.

OK Aaron. I see what you are saying but I don't agree 100%.

In this dispensation the jew is on the same spiritual footing as the gentile, there is no difference.

Once the Gospel was given to the Nation by the apostles then they come as all others, by faith in Jesus Christ through the grace of God the Father in the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit.

Have a blessed day brother Aaron.

The greatest enemy of "THE Faith" is satan.

Ephesians 6:12 - For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Granted "the enemy" uses some of the various things that have been mentioned here, but satan is behind all of them. He is our enemy.

IF we are going to include "hyperfundamentalism" as a potential great enemy of truth, should we not also include liberalism, which is antithesis of hyperfundamentalism. Either extreme is a "clear and present danger" to truth. MH, you mentioned in jest the SBC, but the reality is that some within the SBC along with the ABC, and other liberal Baptist entities have been organs of liberalism and are even now spewing out their false message in the name of truth.

Circuitrider: //IF we are going to include "hyperfundamentalism" as a potential great enemy of truth, should we not also include liberalism, which is antithesis of hyperfundamentalism.//

The religious spectrum is a circle, go far enough from 'moderate' and
you reach a point where left and right meet.

Right of 'moderate' is 'Fundamentlist', further right 'beyond' is
    HyperFundamentalsit.
Left of 'moderate is 'liberal with a little 'l', further left 'beyond'
is Liberal with a capital 'L'.

At the top of the circle lies LIBERAL right next to HyperFundamentalist.

Sorry, Brother Circuitrider but hyperfundamentalism is right next
to hyperliberal (AKA: LIBERAL) - they have the same evil spirit.
(WHich evil spirt is denoted a few posts above).

    Ed,

Slightly off topic: I have noticed the same trend in politics: Extreme far right: Buchanan and the Constitution Party, have joined hands with the extreme wackos on the far left: Michael Moore, Richard Durbin, Moveon.org, Ward Churchhill, Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, etc...

Those who are in the middle (the ones who know how to win elections) also seem to be joining hands: Slightly right of middle: President Bush, have joined hands with those who are slightly left of center: Joe Leiberman, Ed Koch, Dick Morris, and recently Hillary Clinton who is doing the Clinton Shuffle to the middle getting ready for campaign mode in 08.

Ah yes, sometimes known as the Centric Two-Step.
What is this alliance between former President Bush and former President Clinton?

Good point. A better question might be: What is Satan's most effective weapon against the church at the present time?

The 5 choices in the poll are good ones but don't represent Satan's best stuff, IMHO.

We believe in the autonimy of the local church so there is variation from church to church. My church certainly wouldn't support ordaining a homosexual and neither would the vast majority of ABC churches. We didn't support slavery until the early 1990's either.
