"Mr" Bob? That might show some hatred and we know that people who HATE will not go to heaven. [IMG] [IMG]

(Just pulling your chain, pappy. I don't even know you, just trying to get you to tone down the judgmental spirit. Now fill in my list!)

The Baptist nature of this board is not in quesion. The question is "What sins can a Christian commit."

I gave you a list pick from and Dr. Bob asked to you give us a list. Can you do either?

Good discussion. List some, pap, that IF a person did such, they would NOT go to heaven:

    Unrepented...

    1 Murdering
    2 Lying
    3 Sleeping around (whoring)
4 And of course..not accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

How many lies does it take to keep one out of heaven?

If I tell a lie today does that mean I am not saved?

If I had sex before marriage after I accepted Christ was I saved then?

    BTW - I agree with number 4.

The problem is a judgemental spirit Pappy. Neither you nor I can judge anyone's salvation by their actions.

All of the sins I listed above are indeed sins. Sadly, we too often judge only the sins we do not commit.

Sorry, Pappy's answer was in response to this question which disappeared when I edited my post.

So you can lie, have premarital sex, and even murder as long as you ask forgiveness?

Are you not judging it so that you will not be banned? If so, I would say that is a nice compromise on your part, and it shows that your convictions about judging other's salvation are probably not very strong. If it were important enough for you to judge someone, then you would certainly face banning for your convictions, wouldn't you? Or, is the privilidge of posting on the Baptist Board more important to you than your conviction that we should judge others' salvation?

Technically yes, C4K. But two really major points are being ignored in that question. The first is that if one is born again in Christ, one has a new heart and is indwelt by the Holy Spirit and one will not be doing these things. Now, I'm not sure how you can 'slip' and murder a person, so let's leave that one out, but I do know that it is possible for a Christian to slip in other areas. But the response of a Christian is to be deeply ashamed before the Lord and ask for forgiveness. And, as John tells us, He forgives. And as Paul tells us in Phil. 1:6, God is faithful to finish the good work He began in us, so that 'slip' will be dealt with in HIS economy and discipline will be there (Hebrews 12). God will raise up His own and the incidences of sinning will be seen to decrease (although elimination is only part of the new creation!).

But the other thing that seems to be ignored by some here is that it is not sinning which sends a man to hell -- it is refusing Christ! He atoned for all the sins of all men, but there is one which cannot be forgiven -- suppressing the truth (Romans 1) which, since the Holy Spirit IS the Spirit of Truth, is the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. And since all Truth is in Christ, and it is Christ who forgives, then walking away from the truth is walking away from Christ and thus walking away from the source of the only forgiveness possible. Thus, that sin cannot be forgiven, atoned for or not.

Now, in regard to the subject of the thread...

We are commanded to judge actions and words. Christ tells us that and our legal systems seem to agree.

But we may never, never, pronounce judgment on another person's heart. We might have a pretty good indication of what is going on there due to actions and words, but the heart is up to God.

We can reject teachings and wonder about the teacher. We can punish crimes and wonder about the criminal. We can put people out of fellowship for causing harm in one way or another, and wonder about the state of their souls. But we do not have the wisdom or authority to judge the condition of their hearts or their final destination for eternity.

I'm deeply hoping for some surprises in heaven, myself...

Therefore, this is not a very important issue for you, right?

    Dear Pappy:

I see you are from Louisiana. I'm from East Texas so let me help you out of the hole you have dug for yourself.

Humans don't become sinners by sinning. Humans sin because it is their nature. Everybody "sins and falls short of the glory of God." "The wages of sin is death." A single sin "earns" your place in Hell. Salvation is a free gift but it requires action on your part to accept it.

It doesn't matter how many sins you commit or how "bad" they are, in your eyes or God's. If you are a Christian all of them are forgiven and you are justified (declared not-guilty, even though you are guilty) of them.

The only unforgivable sin is failure to accept Christ's gift of salvation in the first place.

Each person is unique and has his own set of weaknesses and temptations. I find it more profitable to dwell on my own and not those of others.

Good answer Ray. My rhetorical question above to Pappy was to point that out.

The only sin that will keep us out of heaven is rejecting Christ - and no one can judge me concerning that.

Well Pappy, I hope you don't just "act" like a Christian.

"get back at you"? In a sense you are correct. You judged others by calling them
"sissy-fied" then when I gave my judgement about your judgement, you complained.
If you are going to judge you must be ready to receive it yourself.

    no doubt.

Pappy, let me tell you a story:

In the early summer of 1979, a 17 year old youth got down on his knees and earnestly asked Jesus to come into his life and be his Lord and Savior. At that time, the young-man didn't really know about sanctification, and about the fruit of the Spirit, and a host of other things that the mature Christian does know. Sure, he'd grown up in church all his life, and knew about Moses, and Noah and David & Goliath. He'd heard all about Jesus and the Twelve Disciples, Feeding the Multitudes, turning water into wine, driving out the money-changers, the miraculous birth and His death and resurrection. He heard about Paul and Peter and Revelation. He heard no-telling how many fire-n-brimstone sermons - after all his grandfather was a fundamental Baptist preacher. So, he is baptised, and he quits smoking the cigarettes he started when he was 15, and he stopped using the vulgar language when his parents couldn't hear, and he became less angry and more polite with his siblings. Then he graduates and enters military service. Little by little, ever so gradually, the ways of the world creep back in. No, he was never tutored or mentored as a newborn Christian - he was baptised and sent out. He picks up the cigarettes again. Time goes by and he doesn't go to church any more. A few more years later he's regularly getting drunk, chasing wild women and living-it-up. More years go by and he finds himself divorced after only 2 years of marraige. Seven more years pass and he's divorced from his second marraige, this time leaving a daughter behind. It takes 6 more years before he finally wakes up to God's calling to him (which was happening all that time) and he surrenders to the Lord and Savior of his life he remembered from when he was 17. This young man didn't walk like a Christian, and he certainly didn't live like one, and he cannot count how many times he was told he was "going to burn in hell" from aquaintences, friends and family. But, let me tell you this truth - that young man asked Jesus to rule over him back in 1979. The young man may have abandoned his Lord, but his Lord never abandoned him. In 2000, Jesus reclaimed this lost sheep, and he is Heaven bound.

Maybe you might think twice before just assuming someone is fated to Hell, just because it looks that way.
