    Views on Romantic Relationships

Chaperones are absolutely not legalism. Legalism is thinking that rules make you righteous. Chaperones are there to help the young people keep from temptation. These are two totally different things.

Should Christians practice things like deep-breathing and body-scan meditation?

Perhaps you should explain what these are. I've never heard of "body-scan meditation." I'm not sure what you mean by "deep-breathing" either. Is there some kind of systematized practice of this? If by this you simply mean breathing deeply from the abdomen, this is correct breathing, natural...

Has God Ordained a certain style for Musical worship?

I linked to the articles because you made the false point that hymns started out as tavern songs. So yes, the articles were relevant That's not quite what you said. I've already told a couple of times a definition of rock from a music prof. I don't believe you've ever interacted with that, so...

Has God Ordained a certain style for Musical worship?

Thanks for the explanation. The whole "tavern song" thing started with Jon claiming that people who opposed CCM were hypocritical since hymns were originally influenced by "tavern songs." I linked to a couple of essays that debunked that idea, which you commented that I had linked to. The whole...

Has God Ordained a certain style for Musical worship?

Using the quote feature will certainly help. Where I felt you misrepresented me was saying that I linked to "tavern songs." But looking back, your post points out that I linked to articles about "tavern songs," but you do not appear to have said I linked directly to a "tavern song." I'm not...

Has God Ordained a certain style for Musical worship?

Actually, I haven't linked to a single "drinking song." Maybe I can put the whole "Greensleeves" thing to rest. It's actually in a minor key, so that means it has no influence on hymns, since they are virtually never in a minor key. Well, there is "What Child Is This?" but it's done to the tune...

Has God Ordained a certain style for Musical worship?

Sigh. I've already tried to interact with you twice on this. In the last one I asked for proof that this song was sung in taverns, but was ignored. Yes, I know all about this folk song. I've played guitar since I was 14, so 59 years now. And my favorite non-Christian genre is folk music. I've...

Has God Ordained a certain style for Musical worship?

An American pop song from 1918 that my mother taught to me. My opinion: this would be really hard to make into a hymn!

Has God Ordained a certain style for Musical worship?

This is a complete myth. You cannot name a single hymn that came from a tavern song. Here is an essay about this accusation against the Wesleys by someone who did the research you could have done: Wesleys' Tavern Songs Here is another about the charge that Luther used drinking songs: Which Of...

I completely agree. You have to love the Babylon Bee.

Actually, the comic is very true of any type of music: folk, classical, hymns, CCM, all music (but I meant it just for fun). You must practice to play well, and the guy in the comic did not. You must think deeply to write the lyrics (are they biblical, helpful, glorifying God?). You must think...

What doctrines in a local church would cause you to now leave if adopted?

1 Tim. 5:19 Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. 20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

    How to Dress for Church

    Here we are nowadays.

What doctrines in a local church would cause you to now leave if adopted?

"Elder rule" is having pastors, deacons, and elders, and the "elders" are the ones who actually lead the church. The pastor is usually the "teaching elder," and does not lead the church. John Mac's church works that way, supposedly. As for "deacon rule," nope, they are servants (the meaning of...

Hades/Sheol, and it's absence from reformed theology.

Actually, the NKJV doesn't "translate" hades but transliterates it. However, there are places where the KJV correctly translates hades as "Hell," such as Luke 16, where the rich man is tormented in fire. That could be nothing other than Hell. The correct meaning is determined by context, of course.

I have to go. Taking first aid lessons for our security team. Hmm.

This is right after the post where I said that country gospel ("Southern Gospel" is part of that genre, developed in the early 20th century) is a lot older than CCM, and should not be included. I have a set of three Singspiration songbooks from the 1960s (no copyright date) with the title...

    How to Dress for Church

"You must have completely missed my Post #35 in this thread." Oops, that's what I wrote first, but then I saw that you are trying to answer my post. But then you are not answering it. You seem to have totally missed my meaning. For crying out loud, bring the homeless and poor people to church...

Has God Ordained a certain style for Musical worship?

Good post! Kind of like, if a tree fell in a forest and nobody heard it.... This goes back to my youth. I rejected the hard rock songs categorically, but not on religious grounds. It just didn't make sense to me to try to understand something that hard to hear. Side note: There is a Japanese...

My son truly hates that song for your stated reasons. I'd call "I'll Fly Away" more of a country gospel song. Amen! But that stuff is really hard to listen to. I never can make out their lyrics. Well said. Cows should never be allowed in a church service. :Biggrin Good post.
