Election is not salvific--it's for purpose. God chose Abraham to bring Himself a Family. God chose Christ to bring this covenant into reality. Christ is the primo Elect One. We become part of the elect through Faith in Christ. Abraham is the father of Faith and we become "sons of the household"...

I understand this phrase to mean, "Not even death will stop the church from completing her mission." Hades as in death, not the lake of fire. And we have many Christian Martyrs to attest to this. Christ Himself attests to this, not even death could stop God's will in Him from being completed.

Right--and someone may have already said this--but this is why Jesus told Nicodemus, "You must be born AGAIN," because being born as a descendant of Abraham did not make one a child of God. Only through the birth of the Spirit can one become a child of God. Pretty simple, really.
