Babylon & Materialism (Have we fallen under Babylon's spell?)

Yes, Babylon's spell: By your magic spell all the nations were led astray. (Rev. 18:23 NIV)

Babylon & Materialism (Have we fallen under Babylon's spell?)

My experience of having lived in a poor, developing nation for 14 years affects how I read biblical passages related to wealth and materialism. Here are a couple of questions: 1. Who is rich? 2. When does being rich become sinful? 3. What are some principles to use when thinking about how...

What does Colossians 1:24 mean? What is lacking in Christ's afflictions?

CSB17 Colossians 1:24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and I am completing in my flesh what is lacking in Christ's afflictions for his body, that is, the church. Questions: 1. In what sense was Paul suffering for others? 2. What is lacking in Christ’s afflictions? Was His death on the...

Getting free from pornography (and the porn industry as Babylon)

Indeed, all sins are bad. I do feel that at this point in history the wide spread and easy free availability of porn is resulting it in being a sin that is doing an especially great amount of damage.

Getting free from pornography (and the porn industry as Babylon)

I've been preaching through the book of Revelation and as I read and studied the description of Babylon in Revelation 17-19 I noticed a number of similarities to the world wide sex industry and pornography. That prompted the video below. Here are some discussion questions (answer some, all, or...

    Questions about watching TV

I thank God for your very encouraging comment, brother. I agree with what you wrote. My wife and I also watch Blue Bloods and, like you, we think it is overall a good show but also like you we wish it did not promote alcohol so much.

    Questions about watching TV

I would assume that subtly dishonoring Christ is also something to consider and be on guard against.

    Questions about watching TV

I also watched The Passion of Christ and agree that is is one of the rare cases in which an R rated movie is good to watch (but I understand those who do not want to see that graphic of a portrayal).

    Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

I don't use print Bible much. I like using a Bible program (I still use BibleWorks) and being able to quickly check many resources. Even for devotional reading, I usually read online.

    Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

I prefer the 2017 revision over the first one that came out. I haven't used the 2020 revision.

    Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

I've been using the CSB as my main Bible for preaching and Bible teaching for a few years now. I think it is an excellent translation both in terms of accuracy and readability. No translation will ever be perfect. In general, I'm thankful that we are blessed with so many excellent Bible...

    Questions about watching TV

    1. How should a Christian decide what to watch? 2. Should Christians watch R rated moves or MA rated TV? 3. Aside from the ratings, what negative material should we watch out for? 4. Is TV ever positive and helpful? 5. Do you think that Hollywood (the entertainment) industry is similar to...

    Ukrainian Prayer Challenge

God brings good out of evil. One example I already see from the war in Ukraine is the good that can come out of the power of the example of some Ukrainian Christians who knelt together to pray. They were caught on camera by a news team. It's not wrong to admire them. But it is far better to...

    What is Babylon?

Since there are many manifestations of antichrist (although one may be the "ultimate version"), might there be many manifestations of Babylon (again, perhaps with one primary, or ultimate, version)?

    What is Babylon?

Do you believe the beast is the same as the antichrist? Do you believe there is more than one antichrist?

    What is Babylon?

I don't understand what point you are making. Would you mind stating it plainly for my benefit?

    What is Babylon?

Do you seen anything that is Babylon-like today or see any applications for Christians today?

Viruses give support to God being the best explanation for the origin of life!

Studying, and sometime sharing, scientific evidence for God has been a type of intellectual hobby (one that builds my faith up and I hope helps others) for many years. I recently published some videos on this, including the one below. One type of evidence that I include that I do not often hear...

    What is Babylon?

You bring up a point that is helpful (even though I don't agree that Jerusalem is the most likely correct interpretation - but I understand there is some evidence in favor of your view and I respect it). It is important to remember that there is a big contrast set up in the last chapters of...
