    Dual Alligment

The church I serve in is dually aligned with the BMA (Baptist Missionary Association) and the SBC. We aligned with the SBC about two years ago now and have really enjoyed a lot of the new and more supported resources that the SBC has compared to the BMA.

What are your views on various doctrines?

Disciple/follower of Jesus Christ I worship and serve in a local Baptist church 3-4 points Pre-trib, premillenial Creationist, but undecided on age of the earth, I do believe 24 hour days Bible translations--NASB, NKJV, starting to read more ESV lately (grew up and still read KJV often) Believe...

    Twitter Quitter

I haven't used Twitter in quite awhile myself. Most times because when I do want to post something, I need more characters than Twitter allows.

    CCM or Old Hymns....

Thanks Greg, Most of this post really makes more points. If you feel led to stay away from any type of music that could possibly lead you back to how you were in your past, then yes it's definitely a good thing to stay away from it. The songs you listed are wonderful songs and I wouldn't...

    CCM or Old Hymns....

Therein lies the point. It's your personal problem, and your personal problem might not be another persons personal problem. When I sing/play/hear a modern song that praises God, I don't revert, nor am I tempted or do I have flashbacks to another time, another place. For me that's the past, and...

    Christian Profanity

That's a very thin veil to make a stand on, but you're welcome to it I guess.

    Christian Profanity

The human company may change, but God is always there with you. Would you use that language in God's presence? Does it not matter to you if the language you use is offensive to God, regardless of the human company you're in?

    Christian Profanity

    Agreed. :)

    Christian Profanity

The poll question is skewed. "Can Christians cuss"? Of course they can! Should Christians cuss? that would be the better question, would it not?? LOL what is interesting is that it has led to 11 pages of discussion... :BangHead:

    Baptists = Protestants?

Interesting thought. You said that "they were definite "baptist" in regards to their doctrine". Would it not be more accurate to say that "baptists" conform to their doctrine, than them conforming to baptist doctrine? Historically, they were here before any baptists, yes? Well, except John the...

    Music at your church

If everyone is there on a Sunday morning service, we have; piano, organ, couple guitars, bass guitar, baritone sax, alto sax, flute, clarinet, drums, two or three singers on the front of the platform, and the choir (anywhere from 15-25). Gives us quite a range in selection of music for our service.

    Baptists = Protestants?

I am a disciple and follower of Jesus Christ. I am part of and worship at a Baptist Church. I don't really consider myself a "baptist", although many would consider that splitting hairs. :)

LIberty University Lifts Hands and Praises God!

Well sir, it's kind of difficult to answer the question as you asked. In order to find out we would need to get that group, and that congregation assembled, and have them sing it without instrumentation, and see how the congregation would respond. I don't know the answer to that without seeing...

LIberty University Lifts Hands and Praises God!

My apologies in misunderstanding your statement. Agreed that our eyes are opened, but do they always stay opened? Can we not ask God to open our eyes to help understand or grasp more of His majesty? What about a non believer listening to a song like this? For a seasoned, mature believer who...

    Raising hands at Church

Eh, wouldn't catch any flak from me on that.

    Raising hands at Church

Ok cool...I've never have heard of a church that only prayed and read scripture, so then I guess raising hands wouldn't be much of an issue in your congregation.

    Raising hands at Church

So...when your church gathers together all you do is pray? You don't sing? There's no scripture read? No preaching? You just pray and go home?

Old folks who think they love old things

Not to split hairs, but do you think God is unable to touch someone through something said or sung on a radio?
  19. Michaelt

    Raising hands at Church

That's a disconnect. The OP is talking about raising hands in a service, and you're statement is about prayer?

LIberty University Lifts Hands and Praises God!

Sure! Are you disagreeing that God would not bring a song to a songwriters heart from experiences he/she has had in their lives, or from statements made that they wrote down in their journals? As a novice songwriter I always enjoy reading/listening to other songwriters explain how/where/when...
