Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., is calling on other tech companies to ban more sites like InfoWars, and says the survival of American democracy depends on it.

“Infowars is the tip of a giant iceberg of hate and lies that uses sites like Facebook and YouTube to tear our nation apart. These companies must do more than take down one website. The survival of our democracy depends on it,” Murphy tweeted Monday.

The left both in the USA and in the EU want to silence their critics so that they can begin to oppress them. Look at what they did in the UK to Tommy Robinson--they held an illegal trial and placed him in a criminal prison on a very minor charge all the while Londoners were smear his name and reputation while Muslims were loosed to contaminate his food with their body discharges.

In the case of Info Wars, Silicon Valley wants to show everyone which side they are on and how nasty they can be to be with whom they disagree. Trump has to call for federal regulation of Silicon Valley or the internet robber barons will take away all of our rights.

People who have left Facebook have gone to MeWe the last that I heard. However, it seems impossible to replace YouTube because of the expense. As for Twitter, Trump is about the only conservative who can say what he likes on Twitter.

Proof the Democratic party is no longer liberal. They are now leftist. They will soon be full blown Communist.

"the survival of our democracy" AGAIN??? To them, everything that is in their way is a threat to the survival of our democracy.

"We" don't even have a democracy, but not surprised this jackboot liberal tries to pretend otherwise - he wants to ban everything - guns, smoking, opposition to abortion, voter ID laws, and now Alex Jones??? Who's the real thread to our republic now?

Democrats hate the 1st Amendment rights of everyone but themselves. A party of tyrants in the making. The only thing that protects us from them is the Constitution.

They hate the constitution as a whole. They also hate our republic.

You'd think that a Senator, of all people, would know that we are a republic. :Rolleyes :Rolleyes
This question of whether we are a democracy or a republic is a ridiculous non-issue. Formally, yes we are a democratic republic. that has nothing to do with political parties. In a true democracy such as the one they had in ancient Athens all issues were decided by a direct plebiscite (vote) of the citizens. That of course is why a pure democracy is impossible today. We elect representatives to decide on issues. But even Republican leaders in the past have referred to the U.S. as a democracy.

G.W. Bush
"It is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world," Bush said in his inaugural address after his swearing-in ceremony.

Athens in the 5th to 4th century BCE had an extraordinary system of government: democracy. Under this system, all male citizens had equal political rights, freedom of speech, and the opportunity to participate directly in the political arena. Further, not only did citizens participate in a direct democracy whereby they themselves made the decisions by which they lived, but they also actively served in the institutions that governed them, and so they directly controlled all parts of the political process.

The US is not a Democratic Republic. It is a constitutional Republic, and yes it matters very much.

The government should not ban speech, unless of course someone is threatening violence or such. Private entities such as Facebook, Twitter, etc., can ban anyone they want.
