If you had to travel 1,000 miles,( and time was NOT a factor) what would be your preferred method of travel?

Is there any mode of travel you would refuse to use? why or why not

Examples of a 1,000 mile trip would be:

Chicago, Il - Boston, MA
Chicago, IL - Denver, CO
San Diego, CA - Salem, OR

Harley-Davidson with a pop up tent and sleeping bag!

I would refuse any mode of transport that included a pet of any kind.

I would rather travel around the world than just 1000 miles. I do have a round-the-world dream trip and it would take time.

We travel a lot and with six children (and another on the way, we just found out last week), that's quite a challenge. Several years ago, we bought an old 1998 Ford E450, which we've fitted with a couple of removable bunks for long travel.

We drive to Alabama at least once a year, and to Florida (Deerfield Beach and to the Keys once a year, plus other places.) 0bviously, too many kids to fly, so the minibus is the only way to go.

We flew once and it was way too expensive and we took AMTRAK once and that was a nightmare.

The best thing about driving is that we can stop and look around, take detours, etc. When I was a kid and we would travel as a family, my dad's motto will be, "When we leave the house, the gas tank will be full and your bladders will be empty. We will not stop until the gas tank is empty so your bladders had better be strong".

He was a man on a mission.

I'm a man with a lot of free time. We stop all the time. "Hey, who wants to see the world's largest ball of twine?" "See Rock City? 0K!" What's the point of going if you can't enjoy the trip?

If time was no issue, I'd drive. I love driving. It would be even more ideal if it was a thousand mile trip with me alone!! What bliss!! HOURS and HOURS by myself!!!

Can you tell I'm needing some time alone??

I don't mind flying either plane, or taking a car, rented or owned. BUT I do not wish to take a train or bus. Ugh.

madre and I have a dream trip in mind. US20 runs from Boston to Portland. We want to fly to Oregon and drive US20 back home. We'd have to rent a car. Our cars have all they can do to keep up with the daily commute.

If I was coming back and didn't need my car while there, I would prefer to fly. I absolutely HATE driving and avoid it as much as possible. In fact, I used my car yesterday for the first time since May 17--only because I had to go for a blood test.

I love a long drive, I hate puttering about a big city.

Load up the car with my music.....I can karoake to my hearts content as there are no music police out there....onto the open road with a big sky...heaven

now I am in New Zealand I drove up to Warkworth one weekend...about 10 hours driving....it is so different a drive to dear old Oz....but still no cops to tell me I cannot sing for love nor money.....:applause:

Back when air travel was enjoyable, I wouldn't have cared much either way...it would depend more on whether there were sights I wanted to se en route.

Now, post 9/11, delays, 3-hour airport waits and all...I'll just about drive unless an ocean's in my way.
