Okay my Sola Scriptura friends, this verse details how women should appear when praying. It says: 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. 6 For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head.

Question: Do the women in your church's cover their heads during worship? If not, why not?

That's it exactly. The covering is the understanding that leadership in the churches is male, and when a woman prays or gives an interpretation of Scripture ('prophesies') she should have that understanding in her heart 1 Samuel 16:7b is a useful Scripture to bear in mind in connection with verses like these.

No, I think the passage is pretty clear. The key factor here seems to be while worshipping. If a woman doesn't cut off her hair or have her head shaved, she should be wearing a covering over her head. That is what the Scriptures say and I don't see any way around such a directive for the Sola Scripturist.

I feel that if a woman decides to cover her hair in public worship that is between her and God... If she wants to cover her head she is free to do so and if she doesn't then her hair is her glory... Just a side note my wife went through breast cancer last year and lost all her hair... She went to church with her head covered (she wore many hats and came to be known as the hat lady) and they always looked for her and her different hats. Until she lost it she was proud of her hair that God had given her and other women were proud of theirs... I say if there is no law that pertains to this in each individuals articles of Faith and a dress code in the church that a woman should wear what is appropriate... At one time in the church women couldn't wear pants!... My wife won't because she was raised old school and women wear dresses or skirts... The scriptures also state that is a shame for men to have long hair but that is another post... Brother Glen

Between her and God - so what happened to abiding by the Scriptures? Since you believe there is no law regarding this issue, then St. Paul is just giving his private opinion and this part of the Scriptures need not be listened to - like his comment about men having long hair (as I certainly do not believe that it is shameful for a man to have long hair). Do you believe in Sola Scriptura and are there other passages that mortal man is free to ignore? I mean, this idea of women worshipping with their heads not being covered must have been pretty important or the writer would not have included it in his letter, no?
