When Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs were still in Bill Monroe's band, they were making really good money on the road. Monroe payed each musician $60 a week, and took care of their food & lodging, even bought them good suits to wear. He would keep his money at his house, in canvas bags. Louise Scruggs convinced Monroe, who didn't trust banks, to let her take care of depositing the money, and keeping track of it, and he reluctantly agreed.

Later, when a record they recorded was selling rather well, they wanted to celebrate, Mr. Monroe asked Mrs. Scruggs to go to the bank, and "git one of those bags of money out".

I thought it was funny when I read it.
