1941

Many Americans recall 1941 because of December 7 and the attack on Pearl Harbor. However very important actions took place (FDR signed Lend/Lease) allowing the USA to become the "Arsenal of Democracy." That was in March.

Just as Alexander Hamilton played a crucial role in G. Washington's shaping America as the land of opportunity (capitalist) rather than agrarian, Harry Hopkins played a crucial role in FDR's commitment, despite public opinion, to Mr. Churchill and Great Britain.

In early 1941 FDR sent his confidant and dear friend, Mr Hopkins, to evaluate Mr. Churchill and the fighting spirit of the British people. After several week, the essential positive endorsement was reached by Mr. Hopkins and the rest as they say is history.

When the end of Mr. Hopkins visit was approaching, at a dinner with the PM, Mr. Hopkins made a toast:

He said he would quote from the book of books, and said the following - he then quoted from the book of Ruth, where you go, I will go, and your God will be my God....

 

Also in 1941 in June, Mr Hitler attacked Russia. This took pressure off Mr. Churchill and provided the time needed for the supplies to flow from the USA into Europe and even Russia. And the last really big event was Mr. Hitler's decision to declare war on the USA after we declared war on Japan following the day of infamy.
