A few interesting facts about church membership totals for the year 2003

Top 3 for the United States:

The Roman Catholic Church claims 65,270,444
The Southern Baptist Convention claims 16,052,920
    United Methodist claims 8,298,145
    (worldwide RC claims total 1,076,951,000)
    (Worldwide protestant claims total 349,792,000)

Here are a few promises taught by Jesus, the Son of God:

    Matthew 7:13-14
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

    Matthew 7:21-23
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

    Matthew 13:47-51
47"Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
51"Have you understood all these things?" Jesus asked. "Yes," they replied.

Thank you for the statistics, but if you are trying to correlate that because there are more Catholics than non-Catholics that Catholics are going to hell, your correlation is illusionary.

There are Catholics who will no doubt end up in hell, but there are also Protestants who will end up in hell. According to resident poster Dr. Bob Griffin, a Baptist, most Baptists will be in hell.

AC, Interesting stats, but as usual dont forget the ole say "liars figure and figures never lie"
(no, I am not calling you a liar [IMG] )

As far as Baptists lets look at some more stats:

    ABA...............275,000
    ABC.............1,454,000
    BGC...............142,000
    GAGBC................67,000
    GARBC................92,000
    NBC-A............3,500,000
    NABC................45,000

    SUB-TOTAL........5,575,000
    SOUTHERN BAP....16,052,000

    TOTAL...........21,627,000

    + other bap groups ???
    + ifb ???

In addition, Baptists only count "self-proclaimed" members and often do not count those who are inactive. In contrast the Rom Cath counts all "baptised" (sprinkled)including babies, and maintains their "membership" even if they only come for ther baptism, wedding, and funeral.

    Hi, [IMG]
Would you mind if I asked a few questions? Because I'm not sure how they total up those numbers in the Alamanac? Is it one day out of the year? Where can one find the rest of the statictics on 2003 churches is it on another website? Were those the only churches mentioned /reconized?

BTW, Sorry to ask so many questions. :D

    Thank you,

People can draw whatever conclusions they wish. Only God knows a persons heart, however numbers certainly don't lie and neither does Jesus.

Roman Catholics make up the majority by an appr 4:1 ratio. Their path is the absolute widest by far. 1,076,951,000 of the people in this world consider themselves or are considered RC.

    Matthew 7:13-14
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

I typed them straight out of the 2004 World Almanac (I purchased the book). In most cases all of the stats were provided by the organizations themselves. About 100-125 different groups were listed.

In the words of Simon, "that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard."

But hey- if you want to go that direction. Catholics make up less than 1/7th of the worlds population. That's about 14% of 100% which leads me to conclude that the other 86% are following the wide road and the 14% are following the narrow road.

Seeing the gapping fallacy in your logic?
