In one of the other threads, two or three people claimed that they can go 24-72 hours without sinning. This to me is bordering on the ridiculous. We need God's grace every day and should be asking for His forgiveness every day. So the question is: Is it possible for a Christian walking close to the Lord to go 24 hours without one sin, including sins of action, deed, thought, intent, motive, omission, unknown sins, and any other category I have left out?

Well, I don't have a dog in that other fight, so all I can say is that I, Scarlett O., cannot go 24 hours without sinning in some manner, (thought, mental image, deed, desire, action, word, forgetting to read my bible, immature prayers, neglect of God's will....etc.)

In the model prayer of Matthew 6, Jesus told us to include in our prayer life, "give us this day our daily bread." I don't think He was necessarily talking only about food or needs of the flesh. We need more than that on a daily basis. We also have spiritual "bread" that must given to us by God and God alone on a daily basis.

He also said further down in the same chapter, (I believe the end of the chapter) that we are not to worry about tomorrow because "today has enough trouble of its own". A good portion of daily trouble is caused by sin.

I won't say that there has never been a person who hasn't gone 24-72 hours without sinning, because I'm not God....I don't know.

    I just don't see how it's possible.

It is not possible when you really see sin the way God sees it..
If a person thinks they are, they don't see sin the same way God does...

Which is a sign of immaturity, or a sign of rebellion.

Anytime you do something out of selfish reasons... it is sin...

Anything done out of pride is a sin.

So if I wake up tomorrow morning and decide I will not sin all day so I can say I don't sin.. I just sinned...
    bragging = self pride.

To get on the internet and say you can go 24 hours without sin... is bragging... and therefore is a sin in, and of, itself.

    Well,

Maybe a better question would be, can anyone maintain the holiness of God for 24 hours? How about 24 seconds?

Can a believer go 24hrs without sinning? While it is a nice thought, it is a very "narrow" thought. What do I mean by "narrow thought"? A person who would make such a claim probably defines "sin" so narrowly that even many lost people could go 24hrs without sinning. People who make the sinless claims often overlook sins of omission, sins of just not doing what they are suppose to do, sins that sneak in under the radar, sins of thought and attitude (etc).

While I do believe it is possible for a believer to go 24hrs without sinning, in day to day, practical terms I don't believe many of us do. I am very suspect of those who claim to be sinless for such a long time. If you spend anytime around such people what you often find is they do sin but then they explain it away.

Yeah, I think it's possible and do-able, for a very mature Christian to go a length of time with sinning.

<<Those are the brothers and sister that don't spend their time here in cyberland:laugh:>>

I think of my wife's grandmother-a very Godly woman-who walked with God for so long...walking through life in a very humble manner placing others before herself, praying always, showing to others the example.

    Wonderfully humbling verse, isn't it.

I think that I am foremost amongst the sinners.

I also think that the more I learn about God, the more I find out how sinful I really am.

What I have learned is that my sin comes to light sooner when I am walking closer with God - That I'm more cognizant that I've sinned - That I'm quicker to my knees to confess. AND I am more patient (most days) and less sharp-tongued (well, not last week) and I really am more humble than I once was (no qualifiers here) because I can't go 24 hours without sinning, and all of those do come with the walk (and age).

All I can do is confess and praise God for His forgiveness.

If it were not possible to go a day without sin, God's Word would not tells us not to sin. He will not tell us to do the impossible.

The trick is to be submitted to God. If you are submitted to God, you have the strength to resist the devil and any temptations he may put in your path.

Really? So the fact that God told you to obey the whole law, including to love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, strength, etc., means you can obey the whole law in thought and deed on your own steam, even without being saved? After all, He commanded it of all Israel, not just a certain subset, and we know all Israel wasn't saved. So if He commanded it of all, then all must be able to do it (by your logic). Because (according to you) He wouldn't have commanded it if it were impossible for anyone.

Anyway, I'm really impressed that you can follow the whole law even without the assistance of the Holy Spirit. I have the Holy Spirit and I can't even come close. There must be something wrong with me.

Sin is anything that falls short of the glory of God: any action, thought, or feeling. Anything that disobeys God's Law or commands any time anywhere is sin. Imperfection is sin.

If we could develop a checklist of everything we would have to do and not do to be completely void of sin, and we actually had the ability to follow this list, and in effect, perform sinless perfection for the rest of our lives, then, by all means, hey, let's do it!

I sincerely believe that this is not possible. We, as fallen creatures have a sin nature. We breathe sin. We are sin. We cannot get away from sin. We as believers have the Holy Spirit that enables us to obey God, and His commandments are not grievous. We are not sinless, but we certainly can sin less.

I once had a friend argue Galatians 5:16 to prove that as Christians, we have the command, and hence to possibility of being able to completely shun sin. I simply cannot buy this idea. The fact that we cannot avoid sin does not mean that we have an excuse to sin, or that we should anticipate sin, but I think we often have a limited view of what sin really is.

It's nice to be perfect and know you are....

If only that were true, Jesus wouldn't have had to die.
That should be written down somewhere...

WELL, whatcha know... that is what Paul told the Galations!

Man, Paul beat me to it!

Since Jesus told us to "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel" If we pass a sinner on the street without telling them about Christ... Are we sinning? We are not doing what Christ told us too...

How many of you "perfect ones' pray without ceasing?

    Ever have a hateful thought?

Are you mad at me now for telling you the truth?

We sin... we don't like it... we don't want to... Paul called himself the cheifest among sinners... And one day, one day, one day... When I lay this ol body down.. I will experience true sinlessness... but until then, I am trapped in this flesh....this sinful flesh...

I HATE IT! I hate it when I sin... and it seems the closer to God I get, the more sin I see in my life.. because compared to Him.. I am a peice of trash... dung... in my sinfulness...

Those of you that think you are sinless, try getting closer to God instead of reveling in your perfection... you will realize that you are indeed sinful.

When you turn the light on.. you see... but if you remain in the darkness you never see your imperfections...
Come to the light of God's holiness, then hit your knees.. because you will not be able to stand in front of Him...

Anything that is not perfect holiness is sinful.

Can you be perfect for one day? If not.. you sinned.

If so, you must be typing your post from Heaven, because you will not be perfect this side of death... which answers a question I have.. "Are there internet connections in Heaven?"

Yeah, but that's not what it says in the law. The law was given to all Israel, yet not all Israel had Christ. According to your previous post, the fact that God commanded all these things to everyone means it must be possible for ANYONE to obey, since God does not command anything that is impossible.

Do you think anyone -- let alone everyone -- who received the law in the OT (especially those addressed directly in Deuteronomy) could say they could do all things through Christ who strengthens them?

In short, snappy comeback, but it doesn't fit your previous assertion at all.
