    1. That page may have had the MOST amount of advertising on it that I have ever come across.

    2. The only one of those shows I think I may have watched was "Flying High".

    Not even

they are terrible as shows, but other shows actually served to tear the fabric of the nation apart ie All in the Family, Maude, Soap, etc.

They were actually evil and vile in their presentation of God, the family, fathers, and the sanctity of life in general.

You do have a point - but - in some ways - they were showing reality.

Do you remember "Bud" (Billy Gray) from "Father Knows Best".
This is what Billy had to say about those 50's and 60's "Family" shows:

[in 1983, on his Father Knows Best (1954) years] I wish there was some way I could tell kids not to believe it--the dialogue, the situations, the characters--they were all totally false. The show did everybody a disservice. The girls were always trained to use their feminine wiles, to pretend to be helpless to attract men. The show contributed to a lot of the problems between men and women that we see today . . . I think we were all well motivated, but what we did was run a hoax. Father Knows Best (1954) purported to be a reasonable facsimile of life. And the bad thing is that the model is so deceitful. It usually revolved around not wanting to tell the truth, either out of embarrassment or not wanting to hurt someone . . . If I could say anything to make up for all the years I lent myself to that kind of (snip), it would be: "YOU Know Best". (from this link)

    Otherwise:
There were only a couple of show I had heard of.
But then again - I spent many years in Germany - so I probably missed a bunch of them.
We did get AFTV - but with only one station- they were not able to broadcast everything.
Now-days - AFRTS extensively uses satallettis - so they have a wider selection of programs to broadcast.

I still watch "The Andy Griffith Show" episodes on its PlutoTV channel on my Roku and it is really striking how many of the storylines revolve around just not coming out and telling someone the reason for something or the truth about something, such as not telling Barney how poorly he is singing to keep from hurting his feelings and trying to work around the issue in some odd way. Of course, I know they are simply using it for a storyline and to get laughs.

As long one bears in mind that it is a humor column and does not take it too far and fall into anti-Semitism.

It seems the premise has long been advanced, by those who produce it, that TV and movies do not influence but only reflect.

But of course that has always been a false premise.

Media influences heavily. Those who imbibe the most with no counter input will be the most affected.

Salty, what about SBC-produced variety show "Spring Street USA"?

31 episodes are available for viewing here.

    "Spring Street USA
    1973-1975
Spring Street USA was a nationally syndicated religious variety television series of thirty-four shows launched by the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1973....The show format included music by the twelve-member group, “Spring Street Singers,” guest interviews, and a message by Kenneth Chafin, program host....Funding shortages forced production to stop in 1975."
