I never really placed much stock in to such numbers because they did not allow for some church bodies that operate "autonomously" but are in fellowship with other bodies. Case in point are many of the Lutheran Churches in the world. They are counted as seperate but many of them are in complete fellowship with each other. In this case it is not so much a division in doctrine, though that occurs LCMS, ELCA, and WELS as an example, it is usually it is easier for the Kenyans to manage Kenya, and so on.
And speaking as a Lutheran looking at the churches at least here in the U.S, most protestant churches have very little in difference. I have to admit in Lutheran circles we tend to refer to American Evangelicals as bapticostals, because in our eyes they are all pretty much the same with a few differences regarding spiritual gifts.
