And now the Dad said the cops did NOT get it right.

They are planning to have a protest in front of the police HQ in a few days

Note: this happened in Syracuse, NY; and apparently has made national news
I will double check the protest - and try to keep you posted.

Just to be clear, the cops didn’t see a ten year old with a bag of chips and say, “hey, I bet he stole that”. Someone called the cops to complain about the theft.

They could have taken him to juvenile detention and let the dad pick him up there. The dad should thank the LEO’s and punish his son.

peace to you

I'd say the the videographer and we who are viewing this out of context are the ones overreacting. The police knew this child from prior interactions.

He's a big ol' boy for 8. I'd say he's closer to 11, and already a career criminal. Natch his deadbeat dad would protest. :Roflmao

Ok so my eldest daughter banned something from Target one time. I think it was a small ball

wife made her take it Back in and hand it to Store Manager

when they got home, dad took said daughter to target w a trash bag and we went in to tell Store Mgr that we would be picking up trash in parking lot

store Mgr starts in w insurance not covering us etc. I told him we were good and went ahead outside where it was like 5000 degrees in the shade and no wind. And the sun was beating down

anyways after 2-3 min she was crying, I was still acting upset but wanted to go home much worse than her.

after about an hour maybe a little more, we went home

she swears she never stole again. She did a lot of crazy sinful stuff, but never stole

bottom line, parents never let your kids off it’s ok not to beat them on a reg basis- semi regular is ok.

never forget to hug them, and tell them that you love them.

How to raise a criminal: let your son steal whatever he wants, get mad at the police for doing their job, then organize a protest, all to teach your son to disrespect the police.

I see nothing wrong with this video except the person taking it should have also been arrested or fined for disturbing the peace.

Uh no, they did not cuff him they just carried him home to his family. Stores are tired of all the petty theft that goes on in the stores. A typical grocery store looses close to 400,000.00 a year from petty theft. They have all decided to crack down on it. Years ago when I did loss prevention I had to have a 72 year old woman arrested two weeks before Christmas over her attempt to steal a cooking thermometer. The stores are fed up. Zero tolerance.

The Governor showed up in Syracuse:

From the Syracuse, Post Standard:
"Gov Hochul spoke about the incident during an appearance Wednesday in Syracuse to talk about the COVID-19 pandemic
"As a mother, that was a heart-wrenching video to witness" she said during a news conference at the CNY Biotech Accelerator in Syracuse. "Many of us are parents and you can't help but imagine the fear in chat child as he had to endure that experience"

Hochul said she spoke about the video with (Syracuse Mayor) Walsh and told him it was important to build black trust between police and Black and brown communities"

The mayor went on to say you cant help but feel sad for the little boy.
Tell you what - I did not feel sad - the reason he was crying is that he got caught.
A police official stated this kid, his sibling and other friends would stealing from the stores almost on a daily basis.

Why would you feel sorry for the little criminal? Really?

He is 8 years old - he knows what he is doing

But know the residents of the South Side are trying to make this a race issue
